Kids will love this place, but be prepared for noise and mayhem. Atmosphere is not relaxing, just completely geared for little people.

Historical Traveler Reviews Paradise Resort Gold Coast Surfers Paradise

Hated every minute of it!! Absolutely disguting!! What a waste of money!!

      from

We just got back from our first family holiday to the Gold Coast yesterday. We booked the Mercure Resort (now Paradise Resort) a couple of months ago

and couldn't wait to get there - it looked fantastic on their website!!! Lo & behold we get there & it was DISGRACEFUL!!! The first night we invited my sister & her kids to dinner at Sinbads - which

has 'theme' nights where the adults pay $24.50 & the kids eat free.... the only things there for the kids were sausage rolls, party pies & chips. The

adults menu wasn't much better - dry food and cold food & also the people behind the counter & filling the empty trays looked tired & really not

interested at all!!! Regarding the rooms - the whole place needs a really good fumigation!!! (I

don't really think that would fix all of their problems either) We are certainly not fussy people but we do draw the line at sleeping in a room - 2

adults & 2 kids aged 6 & 3 - with cockroaches crawling everywhere!!! The last people must have had the same problem as there was dead/splattered

cockroaches all over the ceiling which hadn't been cleaned off prior to new clients checking in....!!! When mentioning this to staff - they were

totally not interested!!! We stayed there 2 nights until we had had enough - my hubby was on the loo at 5am when 2 roaches crawled out of the floor drain in the bathroom & proceeded to have a good crawl around & then went back down the drain for a couple of minutes before returning - this time my hubby was prepared with the Mortein that I had gone out &

purchased!!! Luckily I didn't see this or there would have been screaming!!! We didn't let the kids go into the pools as they had a greenish tinge to

them - not clear or blue at all - we certainly didn't want our kids getting sick while we were on holidays in another state!!! When we found another hotel to stay in (one phone call to the Aquarius) I

called the reception of the Mercure to explain why we were checking out etc., & was cut off while explaining & was told just to come back & hand in

the keys and that there would be letter waiting for me to explain to my travel agent why I should receive a refund.... There was never once an apology or any questions as to whether they could rectify or assist me with this situation - none at all.... It really sounded to me as though they have this problem many times... So as we are sure you are gathering we would definitely recommend that you look elsewhere if you plan a holiday that you want to enjoy!!! This was

definitely a big mistake & we would never ever consider staying there again - they couldn't even pay us to go there. The Mercure charges $254.00

a night for the room we stayed in & where we ended up staying was $185.00 per night for a 2 bedroom apartment with laundry etc., three times the size

that we had at the Mercure..... Please don't think about staying here - it was a NIGHTMARE that you really shouldn't have to put up with!!!

      CANT WAIT FOR THE CHANGE

      from

We just stayed at this resort and liked it immensely.

The rooms are basic, but I was only in there to sleep. The food is highly overpriced.

The Polynesian Dance Show was unreal! and free! Great entertainment for everyone.

Activities for the kids are great and keep them entertained. Great to see activities for adults as well, outdoor climbing wall and cocktail nights.

In October they are being taken over by a different company, Sun Leisure. The hotel will be called THE PARADISE RESORT. It will still be a family resort. ALL the rooms with be refurbished and the same with the pool and play areas.

I will definitely be back next year to experience the whole thing all over again.

      GO THERE, ENJOY IT!

      Yuk!

      from

Im not a stuck up snob or hard to please but this hotel must be demolished .Its filthy ,unhygenic, crawling with screaming kids ,damp smelly ,Most people that go there and enjoy it must usually live in a squallor at home because this is the worst hotel I have ever seen and Im surprised that people book there .DO not stay here if you are clean and hygenic people !!you'll be extremely disappointed, believe me! YUK .I couldnt live in it for one night .Luckily I got reimbursed!!!

      Never again

      from

We stayed here for only 1 night - thank goodness - and got what we paid for - very little. The only thing going for the Mercure is its kids play area. I too would rate the hotel at 1 star. Tired and sad decor, paint peeling, dirty walls and carpet - suffering desperately from over-use and in dire need of refurbishment. Don't book this hotel for its included buffet breakfast or kids eat free programs either, they too are awful. By 8.00pm the buffet looked as though it hadn't been replenished all night and I watched so many childrens' hands and fingers go into the food that we opted to order from the menu instead. The resulting meal - 2 hamburgers with fries - took an hour to arrive. Breakfast the following morning was a similar experience. We could not get out of this hotel fast enough. True you get what you pay for, and if it were actually a 3.5 star then fine, but at $99 a night for the bed, the local backpackers would have been a better bet. Give this one a big miss.

      Sit back and relax

      from

what do you expect from two and a half or three-star-budget-hotel?

it's a little bit better than share a room and facilities in backpackers resort!

staff look so tired? it dues to an enormous number of customers during kids school holiday. and you know? kids are kids.. you just can't expect rooms to be such a nice like your home. i just can't expect a house with kids inside is CLEAN! Kids make it DIRTY!

just sit back, ralax, and enjoy gold coast sunshine.

      that will do...

      Disappointed

      from

Just returned from 9 nights at this resort. My husband, myself and 6 1/2 year old daughter stayed there.

Rooms are VERY basic, water for shower or bath always lukewarm never hot...

Majority of staff appeared tired or not enjoying their job..

Food very basic and very repetative. BBQ a waste of time!

Laundry normally had more machines not working than useable.

No control of playground or hours that children allowed on. The sign and all information was 9am and having a room right next to it proved a real headache when kids on there at 6.45am!! Phoned reception and the staff member did not know what time it was open?????? until I pointed out the signs and brochures saying 9am...

Kids club was OK.. But too many children allowed to go...

      Rating 5 out of 10...

      THE only place to stay!!!!

      from

      Where do we start???

From the minute I had phone contact {directions from airport}service was excellent. I asked if it was possable for an early check in {we were arriving at around 10.30am} -Done! Requested a room change-Done! Requested tickets for the show at Conrad Jupiters Casino-Done! {and this was on

opening night} And the most outstading service...my husband wanted to watch England playing in the Euro Cup, at 4.30am, so they gave him another room key, so he could watch it.

Where else would this happen? Nothing was an effort, and GENUINE service seems to be their focus. The environment that is created is like being relaxed at home, no fuss about dress code and you can just wander wherever you want without feeling like an intruder. We have now decide to stay every

year, and will never look anywhere else!!!

      Loved it! We'll go back.

      from

We just stayed 4 days at the resort. We were so impressed. The kids' club is fantastic. Our children had such a great time. The kids eat free deal is great value - especially when the kids are in the kids' club.

The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable. But, honestly, there's so much on, you don't want to be in your rooms (and you don't feel guilty for not spending more time in the room like you do at 5 star resorts!)

There was such a buzz at the resort just because there were so many kids - and smiling, relaxed parents!

Staff were very helpful. The resort has great facilities (its own convenience store, a cafe, a bar and a restaurant). We only had to order $11 worth of food from the cafe and all of our four children could order something on the kids eat free package.

The extended kids' club on Friday and Saturday night is great. Their dinner is included - and you get to go out for a nice dinner together somewhere.

On check-out day, we checked out and then put the children in the kids' club for a last time until 4pm, then continued using the adventure playground until 5.

Couldn't recommend it highly enough. Can't wait to go back.

      Hated it

      from

We were recommended this hotel for it's family friendly environment.

The facilities available for the children were good but that's where it ends. Although the hotel is rated 3.5 star I considered the room only 1 star. The rooms are very ordinary, simple and outdated furnishings, paint was peeling off the walls, hallways and lifts need major upgrading. We were pestered by a time share salesperson in the complex which did annoy us and was very intrusive on our holiday. We left one night early to stay in a nicer hotel. We personally expected the hotel to be better but if you are not fussed with the above you may enjoy it.

Beach and city centre is only a short stroll away.

Vanuatu is usually a low crime area and you should exercise normal safety precautions however Vanuatu is subject to many natural disasters so I would advise not going when it is in the middle of there storm season which is from November to April. I would also advise wearing insert repellent to protect yourself from any mosquitos.

... During the school holidays most families basically pack their car, boat, caravan, household contents and children and relocate to a camp site for the whole 6 weeks. Seriously they have their sofa and washing machines set up on their terrace, there is no messing around.

Our first gold coast campsite was so chock-a-block, but this worked in our favour as we were upgraded to an ensuite campsite which meant we had our very own shower and toilet cubical, which ...

Later on, we hired out a bike to cycle down the beach promenade and found a spot to do some 'sun-baking'. We observed a couple being taught how to surf which we criticised heavily because we are now such pro's.

      That evening we indulged ...
