I singed up for Open Water diving course, as Koh Tao is famous from diving, with stunning diving sites around the island and 45 diving schools on the land. First of all we got one day of practice in a swimming pool, getting familiar with the gear, becoming comfortable with practicing skills under the water. And of course theory classes in the evening. We checked out the next morning, had breakfast and sunbathed for an hour or two before then getting a taxi to the pier and getting the boat to koh phangan. The boat ride was terrible.
