... lot of sealife. We personally saw some pufferfish and another lionfish. Everyone elses fish stories included some Blacktip Reef Sharks, an Eagle Ray, a sea turtle and a school of Barracuda. Maybe next time! With such a strong drift every group pretty much had different dives and completely different experiences. So I got a few cool pictures.. learning my camera a little more with each dive.. and another couple hours out in the Guam sun. Look ...
Oceanview, Guam guamblog... night, preparing the brief, and watching the radar and flight for the first part of the sortie there was still plenty of daylight left to take advantage of. Made a quick trip to the gym (leg day) ... take note... do not do this before hiking.. bad idea.. and then headed out to the "little nay " territory to hike out to Double Reef Beach. I was on my own this time... but I really wanted to do this one and had a good guidebook so I just took off. Hiking on your own is a ...
Oceanview, Guam guamblogok... so after 2 months of being P_O ed about not finding Lower Sigua Falls the last time (should have brought a map blog), Joe and I headed out again with a different approach this time... using a map! We bought a guam hiking guidebook and map to navigate through the trails. I can't say that either helped much because the entire hike is Guam's mother nature idea of an ultimate CF but we did get there eventually so thats the ...
Yigo, Guam guamblog... and know exactly what I was looking at. But swimming through the deck and passing through the hallways was pretty awesome. We didn't "penetrate the ship" ( entering holes in the ship and exploring) b/c you can kick up 70 year old silt really quickly and the visibility is close to impossible to deal with. The class they were teaching does "penetration dives but that's beyond my level for sure! Maybe in the future haha Ill work towards ...
Oceanview, Guam guamblog... the hike we were all cut up and looked like something out of a japanese horror movie. We finally found a trail that eventually lead us to the truck and the sight of mud puddles near the trailhead was actually somewhat inviting! We made it to the car right before the sun went down. ... The next day I looked at the map to see where we got lost!.... Lower Sigua and Upper Sigua definitly don't connect. Awesome. Im going in 2 weeks with a guided tour.
Tumon, Guam guamblog...
Tumon, Guam travellerhans... here, a fact I did no realize before. Along with the native Chamorro folks, they make up the majority of the population. One of the local Philippinos I was working with took me up to a suburb just north of Tumon, known as Philippino town. It was a very cool experience and is a great place to visit to get away from the tourist nature of Tumon.
Tumon, Guam polakpete... Jeff's Pirates Cove, a restaurant recommended by the Lonely Planet: http://www.jeffspiratescove.com/ It has a terrace on the beach with a nice view. But there is no swimming. I am not impressed by the food. My Greek dish (one of the specialties) is not nice: the lamb is hard, dry, tasteless little pieces and my Humus just ... does not taste like Humus. They take advantage of the story of Shoichi Yokoi, who hid 28 years in the jungle in ...
Tamuning, Guam tonyandmarinaEvery Wednesday, there is a festival at the Chamorro Village in the downtown area of Agana. There vendors, music, traditional foods, and lots of people. The tour buses drop loads of us off, and locals come to socialize and get BBQ. A band plays in one area and there are dance demonstrations and shows. My new friends met CJ & I to show us around. We got a sample plate ...
Agana, Guam joelle... out, we saw more and more fish, thousands of fish, and at least two dozens varieties. There were silver fish, white ones, clown fish (very funny looking!), and a ton of other fish I can't even begin to describe. The closer we got to the large corals on the bay floor, the more amazing the quantity and colors became. I have never been surrounded by so many fish, not even when I went snorkeling in Maui with my family - it is a little strange at first, and you always kind of ...
