She was eager to meet the whole family and to 'teach Lathan and Esther how to snorkel,' as we had agreed she would when I left Bunaken after my first trip in early June. She announced as soon as she saw me that she had decided not to take a job in Jakarta, and that it was better to work for ...

... Ibu Siska is a by-the-book person. They respectfully described her as 'sengat diam, kalau orang ngak brauni' - a very quiet/introverted person who does not like to stray off the established course. They all hold her in high esteem, although they realize that in this situation, some understanding is needed in order to overcome the problem - Ibu Siska would simply be uncomfortable asking the pegawai at the Kantor Imigrasi for any type of exceptions.
