... and saw just how massive these rockets, shuttles etcetera really are. Just the equipment to move these things from one place to another were massive and the building where the rockets were built and housed was huge. At 525-foot-tall the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB), where the Apollo rockets and space shuttles were assembled made you feel extraordinarily small. Apart from our annual trip to New York (see separate entry) our only 'activity' was to drive down to Southern Florida on two occasions.

The first was to celebrate Thanksgiving. We drove down a day early to spend time with Germaine and then have dinner with Pierre (Diane was working) before overnighting in Boca.

... stand majestically tall. The story of early space flight is told on story boards beside the rockets. It was interesting to climb into the cramped spaces that housed the astronauts and to walk down the meshed walkway that had been used previously by astronauts as they entered their rocket for launch.

After a brief look in the Angry Birds Space Encounter, we headed to the main attraction here which is the Atlantis ...

... one (admittedly this was after a drink fuelled night, but still...). The turtles are highly protected in that area and have someone driving up and down the beach on a quad bike throughout the night to ensure no one is interfering with the them. We followed distinctive tracks that led from the water up to some undergrowth and came up close to a big ass turtle, and I mean big ass! We sat back on the sand to give the turtle some space to lay ...
