More Navy Time
... Bragg, I have a cousin who I have not seen for years. I think the last time I saw him was when I was 12 or 13....that is a long time ago. He and his family lives about 50 miles west of Fort Bragg. We will be at Fort Bragg for about week. (We are so lucky to be able to stay at these military RV parks...most are very nice and very reasonable). We are really ready for some warm weather so from there we will head south! ...

Up the road from here is Oceana Naval Air Station, so as you can imagine there is a lot of air traffic. Jerry is loving the F18 Hornets that fly overhead, actually I am enjoying that sound of freedom as well! We also found out that the USS Enterprise is ...

Choosing the More Direct Route Homeward
... to us that they were about to have a terrific week in the BVI! We joined up again that evening aboard the nearby Willy T, the famous floating restaurant/bar for after-dinner drinks.
Pas de Deux departed The Bight at 0800 on April 30, sailing downwind under genoa alone to anchor at 1200 in Lindbergh Bay, St. Thomas, adjacent to the airport. Donna met John at the arrival gate for the short walk back to the beach and a quick dinghy ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Ocean Key Resort Virginia Beach
Not that great!
My family came into town for a week. My husband and I are RCI members, RCI was running a special to stay at Ocean Key Resort. We decided to suprise my family with a weeks stay in Virginia Beach. We own at a Gold Crown resort and have looked at many different resorts. On a scale of 1-10 of all the time shares we have looked at I would give this resort 2-3. When you enter the rooms they are very dark, the kitchen is very out dated. In order to get to the bedroom you walk through a galley style kithen. The bathroom door is located in the kitchen. There is one window which is in the bedroom. It is not an inviting space. It's like staying at Econo Lodge with a kitchen, and a living room. Ok, to take a shower and close your eyes. Not a place you want to spend a lot of time in!!
Owner who hates it and is selling ASAP
We have owned since 1996 and witnessed increased fees and charges but decreased conditions. Rude Customer Service, vomit stains on the elevator carpet, worn-out wicker furniture, and no after-hours help are features that they don't advertise. They once set up an auto debit from my accout that pulled two days after the due date and refused to refund the late fees. Now they pulled over $300 for a yearly maintainance fee that they were only supposed to pull quarterly. Mrs. Johnson refused to help and hung up on my wife. I'm still trying to handle that situation while selling this junk. All time shares aren't bad. We have two more that are excellent. My advice is to stay away from Ocean Key Resorts all together.
Never again, even though its cheap, its not worth it
Recieved a week timeshare as an X-mas gift last year, figured we'd use
it in Va Beach.
While I made the reservation I requested ocean view with balcony or I wouldnt stay there. Spoke to reservation person (a kid) and told me he didnt know how to take reservation ,asked for manager. Was told she would write my request under my reservation/confirm #. Called 3 weeks before arival to confirm balcony room and was told I was all set.
Upon check-in there was no record of my request. Was told to check back Sunday room would be available. Went Sunday, not available.
Upon check-in (sat only) lobby was mobbed and very hot and humid (pool
in lobby) was told check in wasnt till 4. left and returned at 4 only
to find out they checked people in early. Room was tiny. Minature
kitchenette with 2 burner stove. Bedroom had porno like mirrors along
one side of wall with handprints from last guest. Requested more towels
(shower curtin leaked) and never recieved, had to take from pool area.
Rude front desk told me I couldnt take the towel with me, did anyway
after explaining situation. Trash was never removed. ASked for trash
bags revieved small bathroom size. I had to go to the local 7-11 to buy
right size. Asked for directions to local golf corse that hotel has
discount for, writen directions were illedgable and ended up in NC. Was
offered "special gift" if I attended a "short" sales tour. The meeting
was with a pushy realestate type. had to go back and request "special
gift" Dirty halways, and antiquated dirty elevators. (only one working
on check out day. No smoking in building, however constantly saw
employees puffing in elevator/hall/laundry room. Restaurant in hotel
was good. Never again
What do you want?
Some people you just cant please. Its a beach resort, you know, sand, wind, people tracking in and out, back and forth to the beach, etc. If you want to stay at a country club and get country club service, join one!
Hated Ocean Key
I would never stay here again. It was so bad we left a day early. We could have stayed at another hotel that was equal in service, or lack of, and accommodations for a fraction of what this place cost. The front desk staff is neither helpful or friendly. The location is not what is advertised and there is no balcony for the rooms. The disgusting little pool filled with cloudy water is in the main lobby.
The rooms are small and shabby. The ceiling in our bathroom was leaking due to a drain problem in the shower above us and the ceiling tile fell off. The maid appeared once during our entire stay to collect towels and trash only and leave her tip envelope. We left the empty tip envelope on top of the trash that she never collected for the rest of our stay.
Converted Hotel!
This place is no resort, it is a converted hotel a dark and dirty one at that. The ceiling in the room was low, the room was dark with only one window in the back bedroom, which has a view of a great hotel we should have stayed at. No view of the ocean except from the side of the building. I stayed for all of 1hr, after running water in a tub (that had green around the unclean brass like whirlpool holes) and turning on the whirlpool to come back to a dirt ring around the tub and sand in the bottom. The whirlpool wasn't cleaned properly, it had dirt and sand coming out of the whirlpool spouts! I'm never going back.
Don't stay here
15 AugustWould never stay there again. Our room had multiple problems, to include a leaking dishwasher.Maintenance attemted repair but managed to "fry the electrical panel in the unit. We had to "pack up" and move to another room. Mangement or there "lack of" never seemed to be available. Even left my name and room number for duty manager to contact me, with no response. Furnishings were outdated and dingy. Pool and hot tub had broken tiles all around edge. Activities personnel were unable to provide directions to local restaurants that they provided advertisement for. Choose another hotel.
Ocean Key Resort: Poor Value
Booked online with Vacation Creations.com, described resort As "Our oceanfront resort hotel.." Beware it does face the ocean on one side but is a 1 block walk to Beach. Room was outdated and small. None of the appliances worked. Maintenance tried to fix dishwasher 3 times with no luck! Maid service was nonexistent. Received fresh towels and trash removal 1 time out of our 4 day stay! Manager marginally helpful. Would NEVER stay here again.
Loved it
I loved this hotel. I normally travel to VA Beach about 6 times a year and have stayed at most of the hotels and found this one to be one of the best. It was very clean and the staff was excellent. I stayed in a 2 bedroom suite, and with the children it worked great.
Vacation
they treated us just wonderful,we realy went to rest, and be near our grand children, an still have our private time. I think its time to go again.
