We arrived back in Perth for Xmas and New years - we had not been home for either one of these for 3 years so the family was all pretty happy. The trip was mostly catching up with family and friends, checking out the investment properties (can't escape work forever!) and just relaxing. It was fantastic to be home and also to have a car for a full 6 weeks!!! We did also have a great new years with a good bunch of friends. The day kicked off with a wine tour commencing mid morning in the Swan V...

... a chinese gentleman with the worst breath in the world...luckily we didn't speak much! But 12 hours later we arrived in Hong Kong, touched down, walked along a few corridors and then back in the air before I even caught breath and heading to Perth. Perth flight was much better, a lot shorter and the estimated arrival time was much earlier than I was expecting.
Again lots of turbulance, which I reckon the pilot avoided a ...
... blades of 45 metres long slice through the sky effortlessly – it was mesmerizing to watch them. These 54 turbines produce energy to power 60,000 homes.
Once again we passed our friend Stephen – the solo bicyclist, this time, near Jurien Bay. He had a strong headwind and was making steady but slow progress. It amazes us that he can ride so far each and every day. Most nights, he sleeps on his roll-up mattress, outside, near the roadside ...
Take Five Irish girls, two Brits, two Canadians and two Austrians and what do you get?...a Red Earth Safari!
Decided to do a 8 day tour up north in order to see more of Western Australia before moving on. It would be impossible for me to detail everything that we got up to but here goes:
Day 1: Left Perth and went to Yanchep National Park and down the caves to look at the stalagmites and to see the koalas (yep, more cuddly koalas!), then onwards up the coast to ...
... beach" (dogs have their own beaches here) & “did coffee” at the Indiana, a grand cafe/restaurant overlooking Indian Ocean at Cottesloe.
We were treated to a family picnic at Bells Rapids, a picturesque spot on the river up in the hills above Perth. Saturdays revolved around the children's sports; we loved watching Jonathan play under 8’s rugby & watched a rowing regatta on the Swan River, cheering as ...
... the guide Duncan showed us lots of marine life they had in the centre. This guy Duncan was so passionate about the fish it was great, everything he pointed out he told us to spend some time in their company whilst snorkeling coz they were beautiful! We saw lots of cool stuff including lots of different types of shark including a whale shark which are quite rare except in a few places (WA included). Finally we stopped at Eagles bluff, a look out over the sea ...
Perth, Western Australia, Australia helsh... are there like all day every day running up these stairs and back down to get a workout. I went up it once while there, though no more since I was wearing flip flops. Though guaranteed I will be back for a hardcore workout later this week! As far as going out is concerned it's difficult with my lack of money and the fact that our uni is about a $25 cab ride from the city and the clubs. I've still made it out though. A friend of mine rented a bus for his ...
Perth, Western Australia, Australia kkherbstOne family we worked with... A single mom with 2 beautiful boys. One was 3 the other was 8 months. We would go over one evening a week to give her a break. She had a lot of medical problems and her boys were a handful. We would clean, make supper, play, bath them, put them to bed. We spent 8 months with them and got to know them very well.... watching a little boy go from crawling to walking and talking, nothing in the world is better.
Perth, Western Australia, Australia rdawn... of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. (No, it wasn't the huge mansions that were sited on virtually every promontory, publishing czar Rupert Murdock’s among them.) While standing at the bow of the vessel I looked down to see a porpoise that was swimming –surfing actually - just ahead of the bow-wake. The Swan River water is a tannin-brown shade and it gave the porpoise a bright gold color that sparkled in the ...
