... through the flooded area was disaster.
Tons of mud had covered whole areas, cars drifted out in the sea, house equipment in the streets completely destroyed, people desperate not knowing how to save what remained inside their homes…..the colour of the sea in the brown colour of mud.
... funeral procession to wail and scratch their faces, and erecting elaborate funerary monuments for the deceased. One young man, Dexileos the aristocratic equestrian, actually had three memorial statues - a private family one, a public one, and a rhetorical one meant to distance himself from the hated Thirty Tyrants. My favorite sculpture, however, was a large monument depicting two women wearing ...
Athens, Attica, Greece tiara316... to meet our tour (he was so nice). Once you get to the port you have to take a cable car down to the water. Santorini is an Island that is up on the cliffs so you always have to go down to get to the water. The view was beautiful and the ride was a little scary but fun. Once we got to the port we saw our tour waiting for us in a pirate ship! We did not really research our tour so there were lot of surprises along the way ...
Athens, Attica, Greece peter148The students returned from Crete having worn most of their outfits. Thus, Operation Clean Clothes/Hungry Professor Episodes II and III premiered this week. Thursday, Jackie O and Mary Lou brought their laundry and a fabulous meal of rice-stuffed peppers, mushroom alfredo over whole-wheat pasta, and garlic bread made from Mary Lou's specialty, a whole head of oven-roasted garlic. It was nice to get to know Jackie O a little better. Please remember the ...
Athens, Attica, Greece tiara316... that in the price of the tour? It's just ridiculous. Tipping should be given when exceptional service is given, not because you feel obliged or forced to by societal expectations. My highlight of Athens was when we went to a Greek restaurant with a traditional Greek band and dancing. Our tour leader taught us to dance in the Greek way, which was quite fun. Video footage coming soon.
Athens, Attica, Greece timrie... decided to watch movies. On Tuesday we went to Kalamaki, the beach that we always go to. On the ride there as well as at the beach we were studying for our Greek finals and some Greek people just came over and started helping us. It was really funny. On Wednesday I took the first part of the Greek final and got a 98%! Then in between classes Roxy and I went to get coffee in Plaka. And then after photojournalism, we went to the Olympic Complex and ...
Athens, Attica, Greece leighanne... is the views around the city are brilliant and actually Athens was a lot more hilly than I thought I would be.... Onto an Amphitheater and Temple of Olympian Zeus.....final temple of the holiday hurrah!! The next treat was one to remember, we ended the morning watching the changing of the royal guards at the palace. Now you thought we had funny royal guards with the big old bear hats...the Greek dudes were white tights, clogs ...
Athens, Greece hodge... calmly in Omonia Square and go to bed early as good girls. August 4 It's obvious we're back to Athens. We wake up at 8:45 a.m 'cause it's impossible to sleep because of the extremely hot weather! It's almost 40ºC in the early morning O_o Today we go to a post office because my friend wants to send some postcards and later we go to the Archaeological Museum (to avoid the heat, honestly), then walk along Akadimias ...
Athens, Attica, Greece chinaski... with a chilly breeze. After a great sunset, we opt to sit in salon and while away evening trying various solar roof designs on our future house. After a long night on a lumpy mattress, I was up and on deck for sunrise breaking over Turkey, just 10 kilometers away. We are on the Aegean! Troy is just north of here. Odysseus and Achilles and Aristotle all hung out on the island Lesvos. Sappho was born here.
Athens, Greece salidaIve had a tough day just lazing on the beach at Perrisa and reading my book today. Dont think I have ever really had a holiday where I have just literally sat on a beach for most of the day. was kinda cool. usually I need to be doing stuff ...but I quite liked just chilling and doing not much. Am in Santorini and it is really quite nice. not a whole heap to do really hence why I ended up just sitting on the beach. really barren landscape not just here but in the greek ...
