We decided to go to Tahoe using a Worldmark deal. We stayed the night in El Dorado with Robin on December 29th to help break up the drive. We left bright and early to drop JT off at Heavenly daycare and we went boarding. Well we happened to go on a day where it's Tahoes coldest and windiest. We only did a few runs because only 2 lifts were opened, Stagecoach and comet. The visibility was so bad and he wind was worse. When there was a gust of wind, it was impossible to see. It ...

... landscape unlike anything I have seen before, almost hallucinogenic. I descend the mountain following a different path down the other side, cross the floor of a valley and return to the campsite along a path which goes through the lava field.

Back at the camp its time to try to famous hot springs, which are already full of quite a few fellow-tourists. And its easy to see why, as it really is pleasant and relaxing to lie submerged in ...

Back at the Pykett's we finally got into the hot tub on the top deck! With the sun setting and cold drinks at hand it was a fitting end to a really great day. We feasted on a farewell barbecue of ribs whilst, of course, aerating a few bottles of wine.

... and tankers and a helicopter coming in to pick up a huge bundle (I guess to drop into the firefighters that were in the middle of it). As we got almost to Reno, we could see a big area in the mountains on fire. It looked pretty bad, but over the next couple of days it looked like they got it pretty well contained.

As we pulled into the RV park, I felt a sense of relief. I had been reading reviews of the ...

... beautiful. There is snow on the tops but 90F on the roads - strange. There seemed to be houses all over the mountain and where there is a small lake the houses are on the waters edge. The houses reminded me of Switzerland or Austria. Well I have finally had a drive in the States. It just doesn't seem right to be driving from the left of the car and even Gary found it strange being a passenger. The car ...
