... before you try to breathe it. This was my first boat dive; it turns out stepping off a deck into the big blue abyss is a lot easier than navigating Maui’s surf entrances, but I can certainly understand how disorienting it could be to someone new to the sport.

From Phuket it took us (Me, Amelia, Jo and Ron) roughly 3-4 hours to reach Ko Lanta. It was a lovely smooth journey on the Andaman Ocean. We were followed by flying fish gliding through the air and surrounded with fantastic views of beautiful uninhabited islands. It wasn't too bad but as one of the islands seriously affected by the tsunami when it hit in 2004 you could see how easily it would hold water. We ate at an Italian in the village before going to the Muay Thai bar on the island. Famous for two things - it's free buckets if you fight and its burger challenge we had come hoping to see the former. We sat for an hour or so enjoying ...

... one on the beach; which stretches out of sight in one direction and slowly sweeps round about a mile in the other up to a headland, with small houses and palm trees scattered across it. - It is quiet.- Just the crashing of the surf and the clatter of the shells on the windchimes that hang on fishing lines from the roof of the veranda. A solitary dog strolls by, and flops down on the burning sand. This looks like a good place to rest. And for the ...
