But it's a Dry Heat

Once again, I hate England. Cold rainy morning - weather forecast for strong storms and flooding. The temperature is about 63 degrees. It's June. I'd kill myself if I had to live here. So off to the airport and of course our flight is delayed 2 hours. This is the only plane problem we've had on the trip (I think). Figures it's in the West. We're on the plane right now and the pilot told us the temperature in Luxor is 45 degrees. Centigrade. That's got to be 115 Fahrenheit. Maybe this was a mi...

Loved the Movenpick

from Silver3
Stayed in the Movenpick the second week in June with my boyfriend and had a wonderful time. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the hotel itself is spotless.

The new pool they have built is second to none with a wonderful infinety edge and waterfall.

The rooms are lovely with air-conditioning 24/7 which you need in June!! The towels are changed on a daily basis and there is a turn down service in the evenings. The mini bar is well stocked and they have a good room service menu.

I would highly recommend the al a carte restaurant - it is more expensive then the others but well worth it. The service is top class.

The buffet breakfast is great with a wide selection of food so no fear of going hungry!!!

The gift shop is lovely with plenty of inexpensive soveniers.

Overall anyone going to stay there should have no problems and should have a wonderful time

A great location

I am just back from Egypt after spending two weeks there. I really loved the country and the people, who i found to be very friendly and outgoing.

The Movenpick resort outside Luxor is a great place to stay. It is only outside the town on its own island but its easy to get a taxi in if you wish to sample the delights of Luxor.

There are two pools in the resort with the newer one, the infinity pool being the more popular of the two. There are plenty of sunbeds around the pools but all we had to do was ask if we couldnt find any and the staff organised them for us.

There is a cafe beside both pools and also waiter service by the pools so you can eat and drink without getting out of your chair if you wanted!

The breakfast buffet had a great choice of items available from salads and fruit to cereals and hot dishes as well as pastries and breads. there really is something there for everyone.

The bungalows are dotted about the pools. We were lucky to get ones near the infinity pool so we hung about there mostly.

The rooms are of average size. The beds are solid and comfortable and there is plenty of space for clothes and cases. The bathrooms too were well kitted out and spotlessly clean too. My only criticism of the rooms is that the decor is a bit out of date but this is a minor quibble.

We all really enjoyed our time in the Movenpick resort and will stay there again if we end up in Luxor again. I noticed many people from hotels in Luxor coming to sunbathe at our hotel. one comment made to me was that if you didnt have a seat by 8 in the morning in most of the hotels you didnt have a seat at all. that was never a problem with the Movenpick.

Fabulous holiday

We have been 3 years running... have had the same lovely room twice. Going back AGAIN next Easter (be warned this hotel is addictive..!).. Must go back to try out the Infinity Pool that wasn't quite finished when we were there..thats our excuse...!! Photo of pool attached..

Best hotel resort in luxor

from Leon.S
All i can really say is it really is the best hotel in Luxor. We are both glad that we chose this hotel over the Senesta St george as it was great. We did pop into the other hotels in town and although they were all nice the Movenpick just seemed to be right in every way. Quiet on its own island, Really friendly people, Lots of activities going on and tranquil. We are going back asap (3 months) hopefully as we made loads of friends there. Dont worry about the resort being a little way out of Luxor its really not far 10 minute taxi ride and you wont get any problems. Oh yes the taxi ride only costs £1 so no breaking the bank there but there is also a free bus and water shuttle if you dont want to pay. No problems with food or anything. Excellent in every way.

Very nice hotel and great stay

We had a great time in Luxor and a nice stay at the Movenpick. We liked especially its location, the garden, the staff and the food. The garden is an oasis of peace and allows you to relax after all the visiting. The staff is extremely friendly and always very keen to do its best and to help. It is a fact that the food is more expensive than in other comparable hotels (Sofitel Karnak,...) but it is worth it. Every day there is a theme (seafood, international, oriental,...) so there is a good variation and you always find something that you like. The chefs do everything to please and are great fun.

The rooms are ok but there is everything you need. The bathrooms are a bit old though and are in need of renovation. The swimming pool is great especially for young children as there is a whole undeep section (around 50cm deep) where they can play around. They are building a new swimming pool that will look fabulous. There was still some work to be done (especially the surroundings) so I don't think it will be ready shortly. They will also build a minigolf where the zoo is today that will move near the tennis courts. There are always enough sunbeds but it is very annoying that some people reserve their sunbeds very early in the morning by putting their towels and books there and then disappear. Especially the Germans are unbeatable. That is something that they shouldn't allow as this place is not your typical Spanish Costa hotel. The zoo is great and my little one truly enjoyed. They also recently revamped the reception hall and it looks very nice. The shop is a bit of a disappointment though, pushed in a corner with everything all over the place.

Overall we enjoyed the hotel very much and we will certainly go back. We cannot recommend this hotel enough especially with its great staff and lush gardens along the Nile. Also the present and the new swimming pool is and will be a big plus !

Fantastic. A must go Hotel

from Lady-Frazer
No Great chandeliers greet you in the foyer, but the bedrooms are Large and spotlessly clean, we had our 11 year old son with us in our room on a single bed and there was still loads of room.

The stepped area where they play classical music to watch the sunset over the West Bank was amazing.

Staff were welcoming and attentive at all times. The food although buffet style changed daily but there were 2 or 3 chefs on hand to cook you something else if you fancied it. They honestly couldn't do enough for you, they even remembered your bar order for the whole week!

The hotel is just outside the town which I think is better it is set on the side of Nile and the view is wonderful.

We hired a boat from the town and went fishing with our son, he took us for about 4 hours and we sailed up and down the Nile passed our hotel and the cost was no more than $25.

We used a local taxi, who waited every night or day if we wanted him and took us everywhere including the Valley of the Kings and Queens etc. Use them they are very trustful and so much cheaper than the guided tours. The young egyptians who looked after the activities for the children were amazing with them, donkey derby, football, table tenis, water fun etc etc..... the only 1 think i could critisise is the size of the pool and area for sun beds it is quite small, but then most days people are out and about so it wasn't too difficult to get beds.

If you are going to Luxor I highly recommend this hotel, You will not be disappointed.

Excellent all the way

from lonesomecowboyburt
First time in Egypt and really impressive hotel. Set on its own island, beautiful place. Staff were very good and very helpful. Rooms were outstanding. Quality and choice of evening meals was impressive. Good choices at breakfast. Quiet, despite some building work. Going again this year.

Really amazing hotel

from barbaragibbs
This hotel is wonderful. There was building work going on here when we visited but it made no difference to us what so ever. When the building is finished it will be wonderful. The hotel is restful away from the centre of Luxor on an island in the Nile. The views are stunning and there is ample space and oportunity to watch the spectacular sunsets There is a free shuttle bus and boat to and from Luxor and reception will get a taxi for you in a few moments. The food is very good and all the staff are helpful and friendly. There is a banking service for exchanging forign currency and a cash machine in reception. There is plenty of activities arranged if you want to be more enegetic but if all you want is peace then its yours. The room is comfortable and spotless as is the whole hotel. All the rooms are in groups set in lush gardens that are well tended and all have a terrace where you can just sit and relax. This is the best hotel in Luxor and you must try it.

Second visit to Jolie ville

from egyptophile
We came here before on a tour and liked it so much we brought our friends separately. There were lots of repeat visitors so others feel the same. It is accessible for the town but very restful too.

The only fault was the building relating to the additional pool and new reception. When this is finished, the place will be superb.

One real complaint, the buffet dinner is grossly overpriced but it is easy to eat elsewhere.

Fantastic place!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Excellent hotel. We really couldn't fault it. We had an excellent time here. All standards were extremely high and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Beautiful setting and with a free shuttle bus running into Luxor town we were really glad we chose this. On its own island away from the town, it gives you chance to get away from the friendly, but persistent! street vendors. If you get the opportunity go here!
