See entry for day 2 - but this time I had some Movenpick icecream for the first time. It was lovely.
I also bought postcards from the gift shop on site. The man behind the counter looks like Ming the Merciless.
I suppose it had to happen. An overcast day with a fair wind which really made it feel cool in comparison to the last few days. No sunbathing today.
I was footering about most of the morning, watched the end of Donnie Darko (which I'd fallen asleep during last night) and then went for a walk along the beach to the marina before settling myself on the comfy seats in the cafe to have lunch and read a book.
The little female cat was there again and came over to see me when my pla...
Differentiated from days 2 and 4 only by being woken up by workmen at 730. Although most of the structure of the hotel is complete, one wing of rooms have to be finished off - although from a cursory glance it appears complete as the outside has been painted and all the balustrades are up. Must have all been done for the King.
I also burned my bottom as I took full advantage of the sun being back out as usual but wasn't as copious about suncream as I have been on other days.

Wadi Rum, Jordan brisko... my ferry I did the normal foreigner thing and went to the back behind the desks and waited for someone to come out and see if they could help me, when they came back out 10 Min's later I managed to get my passport stamped and I was out of the country! Or so I thought! I was the only westerner in the building been surrounded by lots of Egyptians in a big waiting hall. After a while people started to go out of the gates for the slow boat and there was no ...
Aqaba, Jordan richardcowley... change and saying goodbye to Faye we went for lunch at (I'm sad to say this) McDonalds. It was what we really felt like though and we weren't the only ones as we found Guy and Pamela there. I am really sore today and I think it is a combination of the Hamam, climbing to the monastery, camel ride and stacking it. I need another massage already. Looking forward to snorkelling in a couple of days though and finally arriving back in Egypt. Bye.
Aqaba, Jordan zerns01... where we could swim in the warm water. I cut my feet a few times, but it was worth it to relax in the waves. Around us, lots of Jordanians were playing in the water. It was fascinating to watch the women and girls, though, because they all had to war long sleeves into the water as a part of their Muslim beliefs. Everyone was having a great time, though, and a few kids bumped into us while they were face-down in the water with their snorkeling gear on. After another hour on the ...
Dead Sea, Aqaba, Wadi Run, Jordan lpehmoe1... lesson - the desert is not forgiving and it is relentless. The afternoon heat was too much and we napped from 1:30-3pm. The desert is also immensely expansive, and I can understand how one can hike just 10 km from camp and become completely disoriented. We walked ourselves into the heart of a mountain range and became lost. Andrew took the reigns as leader, and while we used shadow techniques and old fashioned survival skills, the water rationing had ...
Aqaba, Jordan sheryl.akagiI went to Aqaba this past weekend with Shukri. We left Thursday morning and came back Sunday morning. His family has a house in Tala Bay, which is a residential resort. Shukri kept warning me, "Aqaba is no Miami," but I loved it! The water's blue hue is indescribably beautiful and the deserty mountains in the background make the water stand out even more. The weather was colder than normal and it got chilly at night but I definitely still got a tan. The ...
