Historical Traveler Reviews of Merlin Beach Resort Phuket Patong
Big improvement!
from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed here two years ago pre tsunami and the difference between then and now is rermarkable, the hotel has transofrmed itself into an award winning resort.
Pools are even better than before, accomodation has improved and the wear and tear tell tale signs are no more...
Staff are very helpful, friendly and attending any problems efficently.
Beach seems to be nicer than i remember from last time, although there is still a little coral at low tide.
Overall i am very impressed with this hotel, im sure there are far more superior hotels in Phuket, although for the price I doubt many other properties can offer the same as this resort.
Will be going again next year!

Just wanted to let you all know that if your searching for a hotel in Phuket, then this has to be on your list!
Rooms are clean very well equipped and spacious, along with the pools which are fantastic. the swim up bar was a god send!
Locally not too far from the night life if you want it, hotel offer a shuttle bus to patong on a regualr basis.
Staff are more than happy to help in anyway they can, and overall it was one of the best holidays i have had, so would certainly recommend it.
Wow factor!

Stayed for 2 weeks, and what a place! Not worthy of four stars should be 5!! Staff are fantastic and the pool is out of this world........ (well pools) we had a pool access room and it was like having your very own extra large swimming pool. Food was outstanding.......and the ebach is great too, although with the pools on offer you wont really need to go to the beach!!
Would deff staty here again...in fact already planning the next holiday.
Ten out of ten!

Just thought i would let others know how fantastic this hotel is! we stayed ten nights and it was beautiful. dont let anyone tell you high season is better because it only rained for ten minutes our whole holiday and everything is cheaper. the locals are begging for tourists to come back. the onlt thing which was more funny than annoying is the blackouts which occur most days for a few seconds, may have something to do with the crazy electrical wires on the street. food is the best we got three husg meals to share by the pool and that was like fifteen dollars. staff were constantly helpful and smiling. lots to do in the hotel, we did thai cooking class, napkin folding and fruit carving. pools are awesome so is the pool bar, many evenings meeting other honeymooners drinking cocktails about 420B each. there is a man who draws you in foyer and he did a great job of me and my husband about 2000B each but well worth it. anyway i could keep going on but the point is i wouldnt stay anywhere else. we will return Thanks merlin beach!
Satisfactory

Merlin Beach is OK, the pools are very good, the beach is very very bad, tide comes very high during the day, sharp underfoot, and viry dirty. Rooms were nice. Staff were poor. The hotel seems to have many deals with austrailan companys, there were no other people apart from us who were aussies. The value of the food as astronomical in the hotel grounds.
To sum up, stayed in a much better hotels all around the world, if you stay here expect a 3* to be painted up to be a 4+*
Relaxing Break

Me and my wife went to this beautifull hotel and had a very relaxing time.
The hotel is very well maintained and had all the facilities you would need, these include a small gym, table tennis, massage parlour, hairdresser, 3 swimming pools including an adult only one, private beach, pool bar, 3 restaraunts, shops and a games room with pool tables, darts and internet access.
The decoration of the hotel was excellent too and the rooms were very nicely done with a small but nice balcony.
You also have tv's in all rooms and i must say i was very impressed with the bathrooms.
The staff were very nice and always helped you with anything you needed, the food was very good too.
The location was very nice, infact it was an excellent spot, i would say you were about 3 miles from Patong Beach which is very cheap to get to by a local taxi or tuk tuk, the hotel also runs a private bus service free of charge throughout the day and evening, a nice and quiet location.
I would definatley recomend this hotel without a doubt and i am a very fussy guy.
Negative points, well you cannot walk to Patong Beach, too many hills for my liking, that is really about it, excellent place to stay..
Merlin Beach resort, just beautiful
from Shiregal
Just came back from the Merlin Beach Resort, absolutely georgeous hotel and very friendly staff. Pools fantastic and the Thai restaurant in hotel was very good.
The only down side is that it was a few minutes away from Patong but that could be a good thing in high season.
Would definately go back again when in Phuket.
Highly Recommended for exceptional service

This hotel is beyond incredible! Stayed here during May 2004 and was delighted with the service from the very start of our welcome drink. The hotel is so inviting but the best part was the rooms which open up to the pool where you can swim til late. The people are exeptional, it was away from the hustle and bustle of busy Patong which was perfect, away from the noise. Its a perfect place to relax and get away from it all. The room was clean, and well taken care of. I highly recommend staying at this hotel as it sure is value for money. The pictures from the travel catalogues don't do it any justice.
Top Quality Service

I read the previous review before my trip and found what was said to be spot on. Only thing I would have liked to know was how regular the shuttle was so I brought the shuttle timetable back with me to post here.
For Patong Beach - 10AM, 11AM, 3PM, 4:45PM, 9:30PM and 11PM
From Patong Beach - 11:45AM, 4:45PM, 6:45PM and 11:30PM
For Phuket Town - 10AM and 3PM
From Phuket Town - 11AM, 4PM and 6PM
Miss the shuttle and it'll cost 150Bht in a cab or a tuk-tuk to/from Patong Beach. unless you can haggle a better price than me.
Overall, I was impressed with the all round performance of the staff in the hotel - excellent. And my wife and I were really chilled out after staying there. The pools are sensational.
Loses a point because it's a shuttle/cab ride away from Patong (which is too noisy to stay in anyway) if it were just a walk from Patong Beach would have got it 5 stars from me. Also the hotel bars and restaurants though excellent are devoid of atmosphere at night time.
Would stay here again, also heard the Amari and Le Meridian were good from fellow travellers in Phuket.
Great for All

My partner and I stayed here in May 2003. We had a room that directly accessed the private pool, which was a great retreat. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the resort has some great facilities. Three pools, (private, main and family) as well as a day spa and reasonable gym. The beach that it fronts is not good for swimming (coral at low tide), however the interconnected pools make up for that. Good quality restaurants that aren't too expensive and very helpful staff. There were not many people around when we stayed, so I wonder how it would fair when busy. There is a shuttle bus to Patong Beach (approximate 5-10 minutes) that drops you at the Patong Merlin but it does not go at convienient times. All in all I would be happy to stay here again.
