... reflects its history. It is said that there are very few full blood Polynesian people. Now there is a mix of Polynesian, Chinese and European. France oversees the Polynesian islands even though they are 17,000km away. It reminds me of Australia still being part of the Commonwealth. Many would like Australia to become a Republic. I tend to feel that it is the same here in Tahiti ...
Papeete, Society Islands, French Polynesia luvntravln... is the only spoken here (besides American dollars, that is). We did some look shopping and found a post office to send some postcards and went to the local municipal marketplace. Ended up back at the ship in time for showtime. This time a local Tahitian dance group entertained us with a whole lot of shakin’ goin’ on. This group had absolutely unbelievable abs! What a workout. They of course ...

MIL has signs of it in her legs and
Areti's dad has to go on a dialysis machine 3 times a week.

What also amazed us was how the entire family treated us. When we
first arrived we were given mangoes to eat, Areti's husband bought
us water, and the entire day they fed us. At no time did they ask for
money or anything – it was perfectly natural to do this. And these
are not rich people ...
Papeete, French Polynesia carlaandmikeHi All,
We are at Papeete today and are having a great time. After we left Apia we were at sea for 5 days which is a long time. We are a day behind you because we crossed the International date line and had 2 Thursdays last week. It was really strange.
Papeete is a beautiful looking place from the ship, but when you get into the town it is not that good. You need to take a mortgage out to buy anything. Nearly A$30 to buy 2 beers. There are some ...
Papeete, Society Islands, French Polynesia stephgraeme... even straight through immigration as tahiti's still part of france (i didn't know that). but then a lovely leaflet-tahiti has dengue fever. now i'll be danged if we were catching dengue fever, and thus not a lot of sleep was had that night as i (as far as i can remember trudy was slightly less paranoid than me) slept in full clothes covered in 80% deet in disgustingly high humidity and heat with a ...
Papeete, Society Islands, French Polynesia chickpealarryBonjour, At last we can stand up straight for as long as we want, stretch out our arms without windows denying us & be untidy & still find what we are looking for. The all too frequent moments of weakness when torching Kodos & upgrading to 5 star luxury have subsided & no longer does the sound of one another's breathing motivate us to reach for a pillow! You might read this & think that we haven't had a great time - but we have, just platowed. I also know for ...
Papeete, Society Islands, French Polynesia michaelandsuzy... glad we only stopped for a few nights in Tahiti. To stay any longer would have been prohibitively expensive. I´d certainly recommend it for a stopover if you´re not on too tight a budget. However, I´d only recommend it for a longer stay if you´re extremely affluent, and enjoy sitting around in the sun, and not getting up to much. There isn´t much here - no bars, or built up areas - but I guess that´s the appeal of an island like this, a chance to get away from it all...
Papeete, French Polynesia loskoivisto... about me that I hadn't yet allowed myself to admit. I don't know what all he saw in the palm of my hand, or how he could possibly find all of the things he told me there. For a long time I couldn't stop looking at it, trying to find myself in it the way he had. His guess was that he would be about 80% accurate; I'd say he was about 90% right. It gave me some things to think about as well, and made me realize how unlike my High School self I've actually become. He said ...
Papeete, French Polynesia randiandersen... the quality of the movie, but I still had a good time trying to dance like europeans and spending a fortune on drinks. I also met a burnt out kite-surfer named Wayne who bought time share in the Bali High and kept suggesting that he was "Babysitting"(I have know Idea what he meant). All in all it was a great first week in the south pacific, and I pay the rent a day at a time, making sure that as little future planning as possible can be done.
