This hotel is definitely looking run down and needs a complete face lift, but that is not why I have given it a one-star rating. They had a jazz festival on the grounds the last night of our stay in Papeete and the festival literally took over the whole hotel. The manager was no where to be found (as he was reportedly enjoying the festival). Finally, at 1:30 am, the festival ended and all the paying guests had a sleepless night. We've never experienced such blatant disregard for guests.

After a long overnight flight arrived in Tahiti to very hot and sticky weather. Hotel was very nice with fabulous views and one of the best pools and integrated natural aquarium I have ever seen. The Tahitians are a surly lot but I am sure they mean ...

... 8211; although the man that checked us in had all the charm of a Frenchman who had been rudely awakened in the middle of the night to discover he was on a small island in the middle of nowhere when he would much rather be “bouffing” in a bistro in Paris’ Latin Quarter.

Our room was spotless, in fact the cleaning had been so rigorous it appeared to have removed everything apart from the bare minimum of furniture, and some ...

The Athletics has been fun but busy. On Monday I had to take the warm-up for the Pole Vault by myself as the rest of the team were finishing a Long Jump. This involved looking after 7 athletes, finding their foot position, catching poles, all the while trying to juggle their run-ups with a Javelin and a High Jump event happening in the same place at the same time. We survived but only just. Once the event got underway it was easy. I then helped at a Long Jump ...

... two days after the above was written. We are having a grand time. Tomorrow we will spend most of the day on a remote island snorkeling, lunching on the beach and exploring the beautiful motus (islands) i. a lagoon that is larger than the island is.

Internet access is very spotty and adding photos is virtually impossible, so you probably won't see many new entries from us for the duration of the cruise.
