... Some had marshmallows to toast. The kids loved that! Others had their kebabs on a metal skewer. They grilled in a jiffy and were pulled off into a loaf of bread. Fast food! We did wonder whether they would be tainted as there was a slight whiff of paraffin at the flame.

It was full moon so we didn't really need our torches but I used mine to highlight and avoid the odd slippery rock as I wobbled down. Earlier we ...

... is a set of small bungalows, each with a porch, two hammocks, tiny living room, bed and bath. What? I mean WHAT?!? The structures were far enough apart to feel private. Fruit trees, ferns, palm trees, flowers, and tree houses made this a paradise. Why the heck did I only book two nights?! The dining area is open air, with plants, lanterns, and jazz playing all day. Olympos is definitely the most laid back destination of our trip. A small village, set in a valley and popular with the back packer set, Olympos was once an important Lycian city in the 2nd century BC, the remains of which line the 1.5 km track down to the beach. (We are realising that the term ...

    ... milk, quite refreshing!

Our 2nd and last day before our departure, we wandered around the old part of the city of Heraklion a short distance from the port. Heraklion is the capital of Crete, with more remnants of the Venetians, including the recently restored Venetian castle, a famous Morosine Fountain, as well as some good museums. The Historical Museum houses, among other treasures, a couple of paintings by ...
