SURVIVING HURICANE SANDY

Kat was SO nervous, shaking, just petrified, she couldn't sleep & thought we were going down, & no matter how much we tried to allay her fears & tell her what we were experiencing was nothing to what the ship could cope with, she still wanted to get all the children & herself into a life boat ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Marriott's Royal Palms Orlando
Outstanding
We stayed at the Imperial Palm Villas in early June 2004. Our three bedroom villa was very roomy and clean. I would highly recommend the villas for any one with a large family. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The free shuttles to the Marriott hotel were very nice and the kids loved all the pools especially the one at the hotel with the water slide. It took us only minutes to go to Disney's Magic Kingdom and the Universal Parks.
If you need lots of room and are staying in Orlando more than a few days... this is the place to stay.
Just got back.
Just got back from vacation, from July 15-22nd. We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa. Had mixed emotions. There were some good and bad things about the hotel. First the bad:
1. The cleaning service was adequate at best. They did not mop the floors in the bathroom, nor did they clean the shower or the mirrors.
2. The bath towels were hard.
3. The carpeting had brown stains on them. I felt like the carpeting could have been cleaned before we got there.
4. The patio furniture was dirty. Also there was a lot of noise from the highway if you sat on the patio. Couldn't really enjoy it.
5. The second bedroom and the main bathroom were small.
6. You could not park at the main hotel. You had to pay $12 for parking. In order to park at the main hotel you had to take a shuttle to the main hotel or pay the $12.
The good:
1. The rooms were nice. The kitchen was fully loaded: stove, microwave, dishwasher, coffemaker, and large refrigerator w/icemaker. There is a room with a washer and dryer. The main bedroom and dining area were nicely sized. The livingroom area has a sofa bed. There is a jacuzzi in the master bedroom.
2. Great grounds.
3. Free shuttle to Disney World parks, even though we didn't use it.
4. Very close to Disney World.
We stayed in the Grande Vista last year. The rooms are larger at the Grand Vista and the service is very good. If we had to pick, we would take the Grande Vista. You had to drive an extra 2 miles to Disney World, but it is worth it.
Great value! Plenty of space!
This is a LONG review, but we feel it covers everything we would have liked to have known before we booked our stay. We chose the Marriott Royal Palms because it seemed to offer the best value for the price. We were not disappointed! We traveled with our twin four-year-old boys and our au pair and wanted a place that would allow us enough space to relax when not at the Disney theme parks. The screened patio was perfect for this Midwest family. Who cares that it was early February, we couldn't get enough of the fresh Florida air! Our sons loved to eat breakfast on the patio each morning. And because it was screened, we were able to leave the sliding doors open to let plenty of fresh air into the room throughout the day. Did I mention the patio over looks an awesome golf course?! The patio also features sliding glass doors connected to the master bedroom. The master bedroom featured a two-person jacuzzi. I felt the shower and toilet area were quite small, but the jacuzzi sort of made up for that. The second bedroom had a double bed, TV, and a day bed with drawers built in (underneath). The living room area had an array of sofas including one with a pull-out double bed. Our au pair chose to sleep in this area and said the sofa bed was comfortable. The second bathroom seemed to be fine. Both bathrooms include a hair dyer. There are three TV's (one in each bedroom and the big one in the living area). The living area TV is equipped with a VCR. We brought our portable DVD player and simply connected it to the living room TV (which worked great). The kitchen area included mixing bowls, an electric mixer, coffee pot, blender, manual juicer (great for making fresh Florida OJ), baking pans, a micro/convection, and fullsize fridge and oven/stovetop, as well as dishwasher. Dishsoap, dishwaser detergent, kitchen sponges, trashbags, papertowel, and coffee filters were all provided. There are also two BBQ grills located near the play area. The villa includes a full-size washer and dryer, which allowed us to pack lightly. The ammenities were great, as we were able to use any of the Marriott facilities (including the incredible Marriott World Center). Our ONLY complaint was that the mattress in our particular villa did not live up to the usual "Marriott" quality. The Royal Palms is located just two miles from the Disney World Resort entrance. The Royal Palms was a great value. I highly recommend it to any family who wants lodging that feels like "home away from home". Our sons actually wanted to leave the theme parks and go back to the hotel at the end of the day because they had so much fun in all the Marriott pools.
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!
Our family of 4, (kids ages 4 and 5), stayed for 6 nights at the Royal Palms (now called "Imperial Palms")2 weeks after Thanskgiving. Without at doubt, the best place we've ever stayed. The rate of $137/night was so reasonable. The two-bedroom apartment was large and clean and was perfect. The kids loved having their own room and with three tvs we never had to listen to complaints. The jacuzzi tub in the master bed-room was great for the kids too. The full kitchen really came in useful in the morning as we were able to have a quick bite and get right to the Parks. The drive to WDW was soo easy, come out of the hotel and take a right and you were 1 mile away! The pool at the World Center was soo much fun with it's waterfalls and waterslide. The screened in porch overlooked the golfcourse. The staff was so friendly.
I would recomend this hotel to ANYONE who wants to stay right near Disney but doesn't want to be stuck in a single room with two beds paying way too much. We will definitly be going back!
Perfect family vacation spot
Spent Thanksgiving vacation at Marriott's Royal Palms with our two adults daughter,1 son-in-law & 2 grandsons, 5 & 2. The 2bdrm apartment was spacious, well equipped & the outdoor facilities (pool, tennis, & basketball courts, kids' play area) great. Location was ideal for Disney, Universal, outlet/mall shopping. Only minor criticisms: one of the hot tubs was not working & room should update with CD players instead of VCRs. Staff was very accomodating and friendly. All in all it was a great time!
Marriott has it going on!
The Royal Palms is conveniently located to all Disney areas. Very impressive when you drive up with all the flowers and landscaping. It is situated in the Marriot World Center complex. Just about 1 mile from the disney gate. It was easy to get to get to the grocery store and shopping
The villa appeared freshly refurbished, all fabrics, couches, bedding etc. were in new condition. The kitchen was easy to cook in and all pots & pans were supplied.
My contact with all staff was very positive - from the shuttle van drivers to the wait staff at the hotel to the TS front desk personnel.
" ------------------- "One of the nicest features of this resort is its location on the grounds of the Marriott World Center hotel. You could check your bill on the TV at any time, get pay=per-view movies and charge everything to your villa."
The kitchen was well stocked and included a blender with ice crusher we used to make margaritas.
We thought the villa was great--we especially appreciated 3 large TVs and the screened porch that overlooked the golf course . Our room was on the first floor, close to the club house and pool
The pool was large and attractively landscaped. There was also a fitness center next to the pool with all new equipment, a large TV.
This is the life!
Great Trip!
We visited Orlando in May and our stay at the Royal Plams was excellent. I don't think we could have found a better place to stay.
Great price too!
Great stay at the Royal Palms
Excellent location, 1 minute from the 536 disney world entrance. We stayed in the 2 bedroom Villa with 7 people (max was supposed to be 6) and were comfortable. The room was very clean, with a large porch overlooking the golfcourse, and a jacussi in the master bedroom.
Convienient shuttle to and from the world center (about a 10 minute walk), which has an amazing pool. Hawks landing is a beautiful golf course as well. The staff was very friendly.
Wonderful Stay
My family of 6 have just completed a 7-night stay at Marriott Royal Palms. We stayed at the 2-bedroom villa that exceeded our expectations. The villa was very spacious and clean. We had daily house keeping and a fully equipped kitchen.
The children loved having their own room and TV (3 in all).
We had the advantage as guests to use the facilities of the Marriott World Center (aprox 750 yds aways). It is located very close to the major resorts too. We will be back here next year. D.V .
Very nice!
This is a very nice place. The furnishings are attractive and comfortable, and our rooms were clean, well-maintained, and huge! I liked the enclosed balcony, which had a view of the golf course. The unit had its own washer and dryer, and they were free to use. The kids liked having 3 televisions. A free shuttle to the Marriott World Center was provided whenever we wanted it, and the staff was always courteous and helpful. The only negative thing about our stay was the noise from the lawn mowers cutting the grass on the golf course every morning around 6:00a.m. The kids slept through it, but it woke me every day. Other than that, I loved it.
