... Sunday. But that may have been because it was raining and still quite early in the day. The main attraction is a market known locally as 'market 28' which is huge and sells typical holiday Mexican stuff, yet there were strange little jewellery and drink shops within. The market stall owners were typically annoying in trying to get us to but stuff, but we did meet one really friendly guy Freddie who we booked our day tour to chicen itza with. ...

... when we found our room at the Hotel Maya on Hidalgo Street, a pedestrian thoroughfare lined with restaurants for tourists. It seemed our hotel was on the backpacker grapevine, as they filed in one and two after another. Our room was a basic and clean room of the type that otherwise we generally find perfectly fine, overlooking minor deficiencies like toilet seats that don’t quite fit (and slide when you sit on them) and trickling water from the ...

CANCUN - RESORT LIFE

... mojito's lapping up the sun, coming to terms with where we were. Being the adventurous kind, a holiday is rarely a resort for us, so sitting by a stunning pool and an even more stunning coastline to do nothing for 3 days was a unique treat on many fronts. The resort had 5 restaurants all of which the food was honestly exceptional. This was not what I was expecting at all. When I think of all inclusive, I think of ****** buffets & cheap liquor but it sure wasn't that. ...

Spring break in Cancun

After a five days of mexican culture and classes, we decided we deserved some trashy fun in Cancun. Cancun is currently in the down or hurricane season, making hotels much cheaper. So throwing caution to the wind we manged to book an all inclusive hotel on the famous hotel strip. Between all the open pool bars, all you can eat tacos, free room service and rifle ...

Great Facilities BUT Too $$$ Hungry

    from

We were in Cancun April 5 to 8 staying at Casa Magna. We had third floor room overlooking the pool area and beach. The room was very nice, but it could have used a bit of attention. Some of the wood work (mainly doors) were showing lots of wear. While the room was very nice, I was surprised by the fact the there was no in room coffee maker and there was no bottled water available (except through the mini bar at a high price). It seems that for the price this hotel charges for a room they could include the coffee maker (like almost every Marriott does) and provide some bottled water. I also thought the prices in the lobby deli were way out of line. A breakfast of two bagels, one coffee, and one OJ cost $110 pesos ($11US). I agree with others here that the prices in Cancun were out of line. The beach was nice but the water was so rough that we could never go in the ocean. The beach front bar was quite proud of the drinks it served, with a small margarita (and it was really small) costing $6US. From Casa Magna you can walk via a "bridge" to the JW Marriott next door. It is also a beautiful hotel and the pool area is awesome. The whole complex that makes up the two hotels is indeed nice and very pleasing. The hotel is a good place to stay if one is willing to pay the prices required. Is it worth the cost? That is an individual call. To us it was not. We paid less per night at the all inclusive we stayed in later, and the room was just as nice.We found the whole hotel zone to be nice to look at but we could have been in Miami for all you could tell. We rode the city bus into downtown Cancun and there at least we felt like we were in Mexico. Eating is a lot cheaper dowtown as well. The cafes and bars in the hotel zone are way out of line on their prices. We left Cancun and finished our vacation further south in an AI resort just north of Playa Del Carmen. PDC is quite nice, cheap compared to Cancun for food and drink, and a more authentic experience. My wife and I both agreed that Cancun will bun hotel zone will receive no more of our money.

    Excellent Hotel

    from

Hotel is beautiful and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Mexicans are very warm and hospitable people, unlike some folks in the Bahamas. Ocean front rooms are wonderful and worth the extra price. Excellent meals at the hotel restaurants. Bring your wallet! Everything in Cancun is expensive. Sea was cool (went in Feb.) and rough. Water was beautiful, but not a good swim site. Frankly, we weren't very impressed with Cancun, but the hotel was outstanding. Provo and Grand Cayman have much nicer beaches.

    Amazing!

    from

The Marriot was an aboslute gorgeous hotel! The service was great and our room had a beautiful view of the ocean. The pools were the perfect temperature and just steps away was the beach. Its the most beautiful hotel I've stayed at and the dining as well as the service was 5 star. When going back to Cancun I would most definatly book back into the Marriot. It was an amazing experience!

    Ca$a Magna

    from

Ca$a Mangna was beautiful. We upgraded to a suit on the ocean front (2nd Fl) We woke up to a awsome sunrise and surf each morning. The veranda wraped around the room so we could over look the ocean or the pool area. It was GREAT!!! The suit was a bit small and dated though. Needs new furnishings. Price was a bit high,, But the million dollar view was worth it.

    The Magnificent Casa Magna!

    from

I stayed at the Casa Magna Hotel, Cancun, January 13 to 22nd. It was a perfect week to be there--- the Christmas rush was over, and we practically had the hotel to ourselves. The week earlier, the hotel was very crowded. The rooms were lovely, spotlessly clean. We decided against the $30 a day upgrade to get an oceanview room. Our room looked out the opposite the direction-- the bay. We had great views of sunsets from our balcony--no need for an ocean view.

    Wonderful!

    from

This hotel was beautiful! Gorgeous lobby and lovely restaurants. Beautiful little shops in the lobby as well as the adjoining JW Marriott. Everything was extremely clean and well appointed. Our room overlooking the ocean was sparkling clean and very comfortable. Housekeeping service and every other service person (lobby and desk people, room service, shop-keepers, waiters/waitresses, bell-men etc.) were the friendliest and kindest we have met in any hotel anywhere. One case in point was when I accidentally gave a room-service person a tip of 100 pesos (10.00) instead of the 10 pesos ($1.00) I intended to give for bringing up a cork screw to our room. He knocked on the door a second after I closed it and said "surely you don't mean to give me this much". I was so impressed by his honesty that I said "keep it anyway!". Pool and beach are clean and lovely. We were absolutely delighted with everything and we have stayed in alot of resort hotels which did not compare to this. If we needed anything we just picked up the phone and our need was dealt with immediately. I would go back again and again. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

    Nice room-but nice stops there!

    from

We vacationed for a week at the Casa Magna last June. We had a very nice ocean front room with a balcony. The room was so close to the ocean I could have probably hit with a rock from the balcony! The room was also a typically beautiful room you expect from Marriott. Unfortunately the niceness stops there. The pool was plain, and VERY warm. Not at all refreshing to escape the June Cancun heat. There was constant construction going on around the pool as well. Their beachline had a huge drop before you entered the ocean. They really need to even it out badly! The drinks were VERY expensive, and the snack bar ridiculous. Overall, the room was nice and the breakfast buffet was decent. However, I plan to partake in an all-inclusive hotel next time I go to Cancun because there are very few restaurants in Cancun that aren't connected with hotels. I will definately return to Marriott Hotels again, just never in Cancun.

    Casa Magna (Marriott)

    from

Don't ever stay at the Casa Magna Marriott hotel in Cancun. The room was small, but adequate. The service was lousy. They tried various ways of ripping us off. The main thing was they did not want to honor the rate they had promised us. They tried to do everything possible to get out of it. They also did stuff like call us on the phone to tell us to answer our door so a guy could check the mini bar when we had our do not disturb sign on the door. It took us a couple of months and five letters to get a refund. They never apologized even though we sent letters to corporate Marriott. Cancun has the greatest beach on the earth, but it isn't worth the hastle if everyone tries to rip you off just because you are an American tourister.

    Mixed Bag Marriott

    from

First impressions here are great -- beautiful lobby with rich, dark woods and ornate furniture and lighting. Unfortunately, the nice decor stops there. The extended, open-air hallways are being repainted, but the foliage needs help. Plants are small and unkempt. The shell-shaped lighting fixtures look plastic and cheap. Our room (standard, ocean view) needed new carpeting and furniture. The room doors are light-colored and cheap looking. Why not continue the lobby decor into the hallways and rooms? The pool area was nice, and the beach was great. Unfortunately, the drinks at the pool bar were WEAK and expensive. Overall, the resort was pricey (definitely no bargains in this region of Mexico!). The saving grace: the staff was great. Very friendly and helpful. But the room price wasn't worth it. The mini-bar (as with most hotels) was a rip-off. Overall, this resort is showing its age and badly needs a fresh face-lift!

    Excellent!!

    from

I was on a trip to Cancun with 5 of my girlfriends. Our vacation started off as a "trip from hell". From an 11 hour delayed flight to a broken down bus on the way to the hotel. This started out our trip on a very negative note! We finally arrived at our hotel and it was a hole in the wall, it was not on the beach like we had thought, we could not find anyone to speak English and it was just horrible!!

We could not stay there so we decided to upgrade to the Marriott Hotel. Luckily, they were able to accomodate us on short notice. It was paradise to us! The hotel was beautiful, our view was amazing, and the rooms were very nice as well! We had a great time. We were treated wonderfully and the food and everything else was terrific!! I would recommend this hotel to anyone!!!
