Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa is where we're staying on Akshay's points. I guess all those business trips paid off! The resort is amazing. You're greeted at the entrance by a person playing a beautiful musical instrument like a sitar. There is a jungle feel to the hotel. There are antique stoneworks depicting the Ramayan story hidden amongst the plants. There are even huge iguanas roaming about the greenery. We also got upgrade to a junior suite as we're on our honeymoon. Note to self: We...
Bangkok, Thailand ashah_008We first realized something unusual was happening when music began to play and every person in concert hall stood and turned towards a side entrance door. The door opened, and a procession of well dressed smiling people emerged. Amongst them, a Thai woman of about fifty or so appeared and everyone in the audience bowed. She walked slowly to her seat, a plush red silk covered chair in the center of the concert hall followed closely by TV and still cameramen. When the music finished and, after ...

We watched from an adjacent site on television as Noah respectfully bowed four times and clasped his degree to his heart! Special invited guests were in attendane all day to witness our son, the only westerner to gr...
Bangkok, Thailand nseversBangkok Marriott Resort and Spa After 5 very full Bangkok days, Mark and I still agree that the Bangkok Marriott Resort and Spa is the best place to stay. We have stayed here in the past and will do so again. This hotel is an oasis of respite in this bustling metropolitan city of 10 million people. Situated on the Chao Praya River, it provides a convenient way to avoid the famous Bangkok traffic jams. The river is so very interesting. You can see every kind of floating vehicle imaginable. We ...
Bangkok, Thailand nseversHappy New Year! Bangkok is a huge, sprawling city. Surprisingly, the city is much cleaner than Shari remembered from her last trip here 15 years ago. But given its size and traffic, it can take a long time to get from one part of town to another. Our hotel was a little out of the way, on the south side of town, west of the Chao Phraya River. No complaints though, since Frank got us a free room at the 5 star Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa. This hotel is incredible: Fabulous riverside locati...
Bangkok, Thailand sfrtw6/7/05 So, we stayed in koh Samui for a few days after arriving back from koh Phangnan. We managed to persuade Tom to go for an oil massage with us although he wasn't totally convinced and slightly worried that he may get a little "too excited".... The girls in the massage parlour looked delighted to see the boys!!! A curtain was drawn and next thing you know, the boys are butt naked - Tom in his pants and Mike with a towel wrapped around his middle. Me??? Fully clothed!!!! We laid down on so...

Bangkok, Thailand valrayIn the morning, we started with a long tail cruise through the Thonburi kiongs (canals). With a stop at the Royal Barge museum and at a catfish farm. Afterwards, sightseeing stops were made at Wat Arun and the Grand Palace with the mysterious Emerald Buddha. We ate lunch at the Supatra River House overlooking the Chao Phraya River. Then it was to Wat Po with it's reclining Buddha.
Bangkok, Thailand valrayWe started the second day in Bangkok at the Golden Mount followed by a visit to Wat Benjamabophit, also known as the Marble Temple. We were unable to go to Wat Traimit to see the Golden Buddah as it was being moved, so we went to the Museum of Siam. We continued on to Jim Thompson's House, an American Silk Millionaire, and toured his riverside teak mansion. In the evening we had a dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River, where the Marriott resides.
Bangkok, Thailand valrayLuxury and the *****! Staying in a suite in the MArriot Spa resort hotel, nice! Lovely room on the top floor, with all the comforts you would expect..even a menu for the 7 different types of pillows you can have-I went for the normal duck down!
