Historical Traveler Reviews of Maritim Hotel Antonine And Sp Mellieha
We will not go back there!

We spent a week at the hotel in August. The location of the room was terrible. We had to use to different elevators and walk through an underground tunnel to get there. Who knows what might happen if there would be a fire in the building. We couldn't get out, I'm sure! Using the balcony would not have been any use since our view was the opposite hotel room. The only view was other rooms and the sky.
Breakfast was great but the dinner buffet not worth paying for. Different buffet names like meditarrenean and maltese, but same dishes.
The hotel also had another restaurant with hamburgers, pizzas and pasta dishes. That restaurant was better. Great pizzas!
The hotel does not offer luxury, nor romance. The Mellieha village doesn't have any nightlife and there is no bus connections at night.
We won't visit Malta again, it was crowded, dirty and did not offer any nice beaches!
The best during our stay in Malta, was the Arches restaurant. The Arches is Malta's best restaurant, located in the Mellieha village, just opposite the Maritim hotel.
Make a table reservation! The food at the Arches is fantastic! The service too! It's not cheap but worth every penny!

The hotel is located in the towm of Mellieha in the north of Malta approx 1 hour from the airport. The hotel is 4* and deserves everyone of them. There are three pools (one in the gardens, one on the roof and a salt water heated pool indoors). The hotel has it's own spa centre with treatments at aan extra cost but discounted if staying in the hotel. The staff are very very friendly and the rooms very clean and well equipped.
Our room had twin beds, a fold away bed and a cot and still had room for two tables, two chairs, a dressing area and TV cabinet and this is the comfort room (lowest grade). The TV cabinet had a fridge in it stocked with drinks but actually at the hotel bar prices not the usual minibar fortune.
The hotel has a restuarant (breakfast and Dinner) and a pizzaria for lunch and dinner and those on HB can use either for the dinner meal. The restaurant food is out of this world with atleast 4 main courses (you can try all if you can manage) and 6 desserts.
Prices in the hotel are slightly higher than those outside but not too much that it stops you enjoying their facilities. There are two bars one by the pool during the day and one at the front of the hotel for the evenings.
We will certainly be going back next year and are only struggling to work out if we can afford two weeks next time instead of just one.
Great hotel in the village

I have family living in Malta and have visited the island many times. Mellieha is my favourite location away from the bustle of St Julians, Sliema and Buggiba and close to the best beaches on the island (Little Armier Bay, Mellieha Bay, Paradise Bay) At Mellieha, you are also close to the ferry terminal serving teh Gozo Channel.
I recommend that all holidaymakers spend at least a day on the quieter island of Gozo, in fact if you are going to Malta for a two week holiday then try and spend at least 3 days or more on Gozo.
I would also recommend hiring a car if you want to get the most out of your trip, expecially if you stay at this hotel as the nearest beach is a 20-minute walk (and uphill coming back). Failing that there is also a bus shuttle from the Maritim Hotel.
Malta has so much heritage it is a crime not to visit the ancient temples at Hagar Qim or the Malta Experience in Valletta. Make the most of your car and also visit The Blue Grotto, fishing village Marsaxxlok, Valetta and Mdina.
Now the hotel, after two weeks I was getting a bit bored with the breakfasts, but its more than adequate, although the scrambled eggs were very poor!! We stayed at the Salita Hotel which is connected to the Maritim via an underground tunnel. It involves getting a couple of lifts and you can wait an age for a lift sometimes. After two weeks, this does become a little annoying.
The rooms were great, brand new bathrooms, maid service was brilliant and all the staff are friendly. The two pools are excellent and the roof top has great views looking out to Gozo. Food at the pizza/pasta restaurant is good. But in Melleha you are blessed with two of the best restaurants in Malta. Guiseppis (Malta's TV chef) and The Arches (bit pricey but great service).
Our wedding in Malta

My husband and I travelled to Malta for our wedding in Mellieha on 05-05-05 and stayed at the Maritim Antoinine hotel (part of the La Salita hotel).
We had originally booked to stay at the La Salita hotel but when we got there it was still being refurbished and we were put up in the Maritim across the road.
It was the most amazing hotel and all the staff were so helpful and friendly.
The hotel is gorgeous, we stayed on the 6th floor and the service was excellent.
The maid service was 7 days a week and they were all lovely ladies who didn't impose on you.
Their are 2 outdoor pools which are stunning and an indoor warm sea-water pool which is so envigorating :)
The Les Jardins restaurant is where a buffet breakfast is served, there is plenty of choices for everyone, bacon, 3 types of sausages, salads, cereals, etc.
We also used the Pizzeria restaurant downstairs for other meals and that was gorgeous.
We loved all our time there, it was our first time in Malta and we got married at the small sanctuary across the road from this hotel. The views are spectacular and I would recommend Malta and the La Salita hotels to anyone.
Excellent

We (two adults and three children 14, 13, 11.) spent 2weeks at the Maritim Hotel Antonine we found the service was excellent and in general the Maltese people were very friendly towards us. the food was excellent, beautiful views, good pools and gym, an excellent clean hotel. There is also a sandy beach 20mins walk away or 5 mins on the bus. Mellieha is a quiet town but still has alot of bars and restuarants to enjoy. We would recommed this hotel to anyone especially those wanting a peaceful holiday.
So disappointed

Chose the Maritim because we wanted to be somewhere different for New Year. Made a bad choice... here's why -
Food was awful, same everyday, vegetables mushy, meat tough and rather bizarrely, although the desserts looked deliscious, they all tasted exactly the same. Service was extremely poor, I'd say that the Maltese are too proud to serve guests, but once you got to chat to them they were quite friendly.
The room service was atrocious, food arrived cold with bits of the order missing and with a 3.50 lire charge (about 5.75) rather expensive. Rooms were cleaned haphazardly or not at all and towels and coffee/tea were not topped up, although they were fastidious about checking the mini bar.
On the first day, to unwind, we treated ourselves to a massage, manicure and pedicure which proved to be amateruish and very expensive. And as the spa was not owned by the hotel, they refused to take the discount vouchers we had been given at reception on our arrival.
Malta now disallows smoking in all public places, but this hotel made an exception for the maltese guests who were there for the New Years eve festivities, we were not allowed to smoke so had to stand outside.
All in all, totally disappointed and couldn't wait to get home.
On a plus point, the hotel is attractive and the bed was really comfortable.
Melieha is an OK place, but shops and a variety of eating places are rare. Car hire was expensive and the roads atrocious. Gozo was definitely the best place to go.
Would we go there again? Oh no!
Awful food

Rather go somewhere else

Four star hotel with two star service. Housekeeping quality is really low. Restaurants are good, but still hotel was a disappointment. Mellieha is too quiet. Stay somewhere else, for example Victoria, Gozo!

Brand new hotel
from dancer62
After a lot of agonising, my boyfriend & I opted for this hotel vs the Hilton for our visit last week. This brand new hotel (opened August this year) is at the edge of town, with nice views of the church and Mellieha Bay from some of the rooms. Now run by the German Maritim Group, this hotel delivers good 4 star quality (nice rooms, marble bathrooms, breakfast buffet , 3 pools etc.). Didnīt try the evening buffet meal. The only downside was that there was no bar service at the pool, probably because of the "winter" season.
Hilton was a lot more expensive, and after visiting it we were still happy with our choice.
Warning - Only pick Mellieha as a resort if you like it not lively.
Early November itīs pretty dead.
