Time to breath
My fiance and me were staying in the Marina Phuket in December 03 and we really found it to be very relaxing. We made our decission to go on holiday kinda late in October and found the hotel on the internet and hence also did our booking over the internet which was absolutely hazzle free and convenient. I had booked a Jungle room at a good price directly through their website.
When we arrived there early in the morning from Singapore their guy was standing outside the airport waiting to pick us up. The way to the hotel was a bit lengthy but I guess if you don't live in Asia it should be quite interesting to see Asia right in front of you. After about an hours drive we arrived at the hotel and were received with refreshments etc. everything was fine. As we were brought to our room by the friendly staff we were very positively surprised. It was a very nice room with nice interior. We were really satisfied. The pool and everything was nice. Also it was great that Internet use was for free and you could use it whenever necessary as there were no queues as I had to write some emails etc. to the office. The even allowed me to connect my laptop to their network to directly access the internet. In the end I liked their idea to not put a tv into the room. My wife is always angry with me that I keep on watch Bloomberg and such and that I can never stop working but that holiday as there was no tv there was no problem.
We spent most of the time diving as we are passionate divers. After only six night we had to make our way home to Singapore as I had to leave for a business meeting in London three days later. We were kinda sad having to leave so soon but it was a wonderful holiday at a good price. The staff was fantastic, the whole hotel including the facilities was great. Even though it is a destination very near home for me I must say that it was probably one of the best trips I ever had. It was even nicer than the Bahamas and Belize, I loved it.
We are going back to Phuket, Phi Phi Island to be more precise (now married) in July but no matter where we go, it is rather difficult for any location to surpass the Marina Phuket.
Thus we can only highly recommend the Marina Phuket.
Fantabulous Time at Marina Phuket
Had an absolutely fabulous time at Marina Phuket in a jungle room. We stayed for 10 days and were amazed at the friendliness of the staff day in and day out. We found that the food at the restaurants was some of the best we had and we tried every nice restaurant around Karon and Kata. In fact, we LOVED the great breakfast every day. What a wonderful way to start each day.
Watch for the monster spiders that will build nests overnight on your deck. The maid staff was very helpful in getting rid of them. In fact, we chose Marina Phuket after while in Bangkok and reading the reviews on this site.
We would definitely come back here to stay! Don't miss the Above the Beach Bar for a great sunset. Also, at the edge of Kata going inland is a great open restaurant to watch fantastic sunsets. Only take a short elephant tour if you are interested and the June Bahtra cruise was nice, but wish we had kayaked as well. Marina Divers were very friendly and helpful.
Stay at Marina Phuket.
One of the best in Thailand..
MARINA RESORT PHUKET
>******* An absolute Gem and best find we ever had in Thailand....set on a
>head land at the lower Karon beach, could not believe that they have the
>number of Villa's tucked away in the manicured...mean manicured jungle that
>they have, and this makes the entire resort totally secluded and VERY
>special, we stayed 9 days and i had yet to meet or even see a persona
>representing a manager, yet every staff member from the lady cleaning the
>toilet to the restaurant senior staff knew EXACTLY what to do, so the
>Resort management must be really good at what they do, to have staff
>trained to such a level whilst they the management remain out of sight but
>obviously due to the smooth high standard of their operation they have a
>tight reign on the facility and what happens there all the time, which is
>normally only found at 5 start international hotels.
>The cleanliness standards maintained....my wife even called the entire
>family to "view the toilets" at the restaurant on our first day...and that
>was the start-also no doubt why so many German tourist were resident there
>as being in the hospitality business ourselves- we know that nationality to
>be one of the most fastidious-demanding client one can get. When we were
>shown to sea view villa #D 219, which was no less than superb, with Thai
>Pagoda style building, solid teak gloss floors to marble bathroom that is
>the best equipped to any i hotel/ cruise liner we have ever stayed in the
>world-with full change of every piece of bedding/ linen/ beach towels robes
>etc every day.
>The room has a big glass "wall" out onto the sun deck overlooking the sea ,
>and the gardens below in which birds and squirrels play at eating wild
>bananas off the stalk in the early mornings and evenings... the room in A/C
>and fitted with flat plasma TV and all mod cons-mini bar etc etc that one
>could wish for and again the staff could not genuinely do enough to satisfy
>our every special request...and there is 24 hours security patrols about
>the resort grounds
>The resort has two in house restaurants with identical menu's -the one set
>in a cave layout on the rocks over looking the Beach( which ends at the
>board walk leading into Marina resort gargdens)and the other higher up in
>the gardens/ jungle over looking the cascade swimming pools-Sala Thai has
>evening entertainment. The menus has quality and quantity for every taste,
>and we never had a poor standard meal at either restaurant although due to
>the setting, the on the rock restaurant is more popular as draws from other
>hotels in area-being right on the beach and beautiful setting in the
>moonlight evenings. The single draw back at the restaurants is something we
>miss from our own country eateries, the "dedicated smoking exclusion area"
>which has not reached Thai eateries, so often found a good meal being
>spoiled by smoke wafting over from an inconsiderate smoking table thus
>chose the sala Thai restaurant more often was not so packed...
>The beauty of this resort for families / couples is the privacy each villa
>offers- yet only a couple steps down the Marina raised wooden board walks
>in the jungle and one is on the beach snorkeling amongst the rocks inside a
>dedicated safe swimming - floating roped off area, outside which there are
>the facilities for hire of Jet ski's- speed boats towing the sausage" or
>Para Kite 's and enough beach loungers/umbrella's for all to watch the kids
>do sand castles and other more mature sights..
>Then on the other side of the jungle again only a couple of steps one
>exits, often meeting the little Thai Elephant who is walking about there
>looking for Bananas, to a Fantasia style prehistoric 18 Hole Putt-Putt golf
>course of very high standard-or directly into Karon main road with
>selection of good restaurants/ supermarkets / curio and clothing shops...in
>other words in the resort you can let he world go by- but when ever one
>wants to step out into the world, its only couple steps and you have every
>access to every resource you need...we tended to stay inside, as the
>tranquility was just to much!!
>The resort has a excellent info center that will arrange any tour- book
>flights/ arrange reasonable transport of high standard- guide you with
>local knowledge and this is open from very AM till 2300hrs daily with top
>quality free internet terminal points inside the Info center- the resort
>also has two separate bars for entertaining and a beautiful swimming pool
>area- that is also used for PADI diver training by the adjacent high spec
>dive shop( but very expensive) facility.
>The observed best rooms are the two Family "sea View Villa's" right on the
>water but with more walking to get anywhere or any of the sea view ones
>directly above them- Reference Row 2-D.
>The Jungle villa's are a mix, and even more private in most cases, but in
>shade most of the day due to the high palms and coconut trees in the jungle
>looks like J 437 and 438 good choices - some of these have full veranda
>which is traveling in a small group allows "all" to pull up a deck chair
>and sit to-gether outside , without having to go to the pool area- bar....
>The resort offers an excellent package on room rates-selection and when
>booking on the internet, sweetens the package with Free luxury
>transport-to/ from Phuket airport -free breakfast/ 10 % discount card for
>all meals taken at the Sala Thai restaurant etc all in all making this an
>excellent choice -value for money accommodation facility and ensuring that
>they will always no doubt have repeat customers- which we will be!!

Beautifully landscaped Marina Phuket
Stayed at Marina Phuket for 2 nights mid-January. Was surprised that it was right smack in town but that said, once you entered the grounds, it felt like a tropical island setting. The plantings, flowers, etc are magnificent and beautifully maintained. The rooms are very nice (stayed in the Jungle villa) with a lovely balcony deck overlooking the plantings.
The beach was more crowded than I expected---didn't realize it was literally next door to the Karon Beach Resort. The beach is a string of purple umbrellas along the entire coastline---no feeling of isolation there. However, the water was clear, warm and great for snorkeling by the rocks right at the hotel. No need to go far out to get fabulous views of the fish. Also, the beach massage tent offers real bargains---had an hour long foot massage for about $8 US dollars and a large fruit platter for about $1.50.
The staff at the hotel is pleasant and accomodating. Internet access is free and readily available at the information center where you can also plan other activities. The food at the restaurants was ok but not great---next time I'd venture out more in the surrounding areas but our time was very short.
Gorgeous tranquil hotel, near beautiful beach
This hotel is just ideal. Near everything yet tucked away, pretty rooms (understated and tranquil) delicious breakfasts, first-rate staff--all right at the edge of one of the prettiest beaches on Phuket. We stayed four nights, wish it could've been much longer.
My family and I have been staying at Marina for many years and love it. Unfortunately the redevelopment of the beach villas has, in our view, lost some of its attractions. The new villas are very nice but they dominate the headland and the hotel too much. The beauty of Marina was its anonymity yet great location. It's much more visible now. The old, basic villas were much more suited to the location and style of the hotel but that's progress for you. If you didn't know what it was like before then don't let that put you off though.
Food is good throughout, although they did get a bit of a pain last time when they repeatedly attempted to charge me for a full breakfast in respect of my 6 year old son on top of my wife's, daughter's and my entitlement to a full breakfast. He was only eating a bowl of cereal and an orange juice! They tried to do the same to another guest with similar results - i.e. disgruntled, repeat guests.
Also, during our last stay there was a wedding held at Marina. This may be paradise for those involved but it was pretty awful for paying guests. They closed the pool area and restaurant for the entire day with only half a days warning which was quite an inconvenience with two young children. So enquire about weddings during your stay and make alternative arrangements for the day in question. There are plenty of options on Phuket but I would have preferred to know about the wedding on the day when I was checking-in as we could have scheduled our stay on Phi Phi at that time instead. As a result after a few days in Phi Phi we checked in somewhere else much more quieter instead of returning to Marina. No hassle on breakfasts either.
All-in-all though a lovely hotel, well located, quiet (weddings excepted), good restaurants, good staff and fine beach.
Friendly staff, great food, excellent location
Everything about this place is great: the pool is beautifully landscaped, the open air restaurants have excellent food, the location is perfect at the end of Karon beach, the staff is very friendly, many of the rooms have nice views. We haven't been there since the tsunami of 2004 but I hear it came through fine.
I had a wonderful time at the Marina Phuket. The members of the staff were very attentive and helpful, but what really impressed me were the rooms. We got the ocean view villa which had a small outdoor balcony-perfect for reading a good book. The rooms came with plasma tvs, nice large showers, and very comfortable beds. This was truly the nicest room I had ever stayed in and immensely better than any hotel if what you care about is privacy, comfort, and peace. Once you step out of your villa, you walk through this amazingly lush garden. I saw frogs, snails, and all sorts of creatures. We went in May which is low season and I felt at times like we were the only people staying there. No children screaming around the pool, no drunk adults. Everything was classy, quiet, and relaxing. We booked a massage and they came to our room which was so nice (and so cheap!). I highly recommend the Marina Phuket if you are looking for a quiet luxurious and romantic (yet affordable) stay in Phuket.
What a nice stay!
This was such a great hotel. It's definitely where the jungle meets the sea.
Each guest get their own little cottage. Such a nice change from the usual hotel room w/ shared walls.
The hotel property sits on top of a small cliff, overlooking the beach. So it's just a short walk to the beach from your room.
The "jungle rooms" are so nice.. and it's great to sit on your private porch and be surrounded by butterflies each day.
During our stay, there was a baby elephant living on the property so we got to play with her each day. It was such a delight.
The restaurant was excellent. I still have not had a better Mai Tai than I did there! The complimentary breakfast at the beach restaurant was such a nice change from the usual buffet.
I highly reccommend this hotel, it was just perfect.

A beautiful place to which we have been for many years - lets hope it, its staff and guests are safe in these terrible times.
We hope to go back when the time is right.

When a pick-up truck turned up we were caught unawares, but it turned out to be a whole new experience when there was about 8 of us plus baggage all crammed in to the back of the truck whilst the guy was positively enjoying watching us being hurled around as he picked up speed for every bump and proceeded to take the racing line into every corner. Consequently we arrived at the ferry port about 2 hours early.
