Wanting to save on airfare, we took Nok Air going to Koh Samui and then booked Bangkok Airways on our way out.

So i had heard mixed reviews about Koh Samui so i wanted to go and check it out for myself. After a super early pick up and yet another boat journey i arrived at my hostel In Koh Samui in the old fishermans town, where there was only 5 of us staying in the hostel so it was nice and quiet :)
I dumped my stuff and headed to the beach via the shops and just did some window shopping as on the islands ...

Yet here I was, over and over and over again, asking myself that question, almost to the point of becoming angry; angry because if my path had brought me down to the water just a bit sooner, this son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, husband, coworker, friend -- may have lived to see another day.

Wouldn't call it '5 stars', but still nice. Communication with staff can be difficult because of the language barrier and when wet the steps and road up to the rooms are very slippery. But the food and pool are nice and the complimentary shuttle buses into town are really handy too.
