    ... eventually sought asylum in Mae Salong. In exchange for their asylum, they fought for Thailand until 1982. In reward, the Thai government granted citizenship to most of the soldiers and their families, provided they ceased poppy growing.     Back in Mai Sai we took the bus back to Chiang Rai where we would spend one more night before heading to Chiang Mai.

    Burma, Myanmur its new name, had been a good experience and definately worth doing whilst in the north of Thailand. At least we now have a stamp in the passport to add to our growing collection!

    ... until we reached the small but very commercial town of Mae Sai. It is right on the border between Myanmar and Thailand and is relatively near the border with Laos as well. Where all three countries meet is known as the Golden Triangle.     We have a wonderful little pizza joint next door. American (handsome) husband, Thai (beautiful) wife, and adorable little 3 year old boy. It is pristine clean. He is quite a photographer and has photos all around the restaurant of the Mekong River from its origin in Tibet to a sunset picture right here. Very friendly - gave Bev and me free shots of mango vodka ...
