    Another Stopover

A travel blog entry by luciecox on Jul 18, 2014

... very curious about us and keep following us everywhere. We check in a cheap hotel for the night and go around for a walk to find some food. Something really odd happened. One of the locals must have heard us asking questions about the ferry timetable and assumed that we wanted to catch the very first one that day (5am), so around 4.30 we get a knock on our hotel telling us "wake up, wake up! The ferry, the ferry!". How this person even knew which one was our room in ...

... middle). We have seen comfortable buses with only 3 seats, in thailand, the occasional bus with 5 (squeeze!). In the philippines, they are all 6 seat-rows. The alley in the centre is tiny and they pack a lot of standing passengers too. Iuri easily occupies two seats by himself. We stayed extra long with them as the kids played and sang together. None wanted to leave. What a sweet evening, that left my heart just a little broken. ...

... exploring of the city, and then we took a ferry from Iloilo, located on the southeast tip of the island of Panay - to Bacolod, located on the northwest tip of the island of Negros. If one calls up a map, this is all located in the centre of the Philippines. We had looked at a city map and figured we could walk from the port to our hotel, the Calle Nueva. In a city with very few caucasians, Monica and I must have looked fairly conspicuous as we trudged ...

    Fruity Little Bats

... bats hanging on to the sign just chilling and squawking away and you could actually handle them and pet them and they wouldn't bite! They were incredible and very cute with their bulging eyes and tiny snouts making crazy noises. We could have hung around here for a while, but of course we wanted to check out some waterfalls and, accompanied by a guide, we headed up the many steps pausing on the way to walk along the canopy walk in the trees that gave us a bats eye view of the path ...
