Aug 5 - Aug 23 in the Alps

My parents love the mountains and have always gone to the Alps for their summer vacation since we were born. As a kid and a teenager I always joined them with my brother and sister. But I haven't had the opportunity to do so (except for in 2005) since I moved to the US.
So this year being devoted to traveling and time with friends and family, I joined them for two weeks and a half in Orcieres, a town in the ...

The French Alps!

... with only a two foot wall to hold us back. It was a good thing that all of the cars in France are tiny or we wouldn't have been able to pass them on the narrow roads. When we finally got to our hotel we were happily surprised to find that we had a good size, apartment style rooms with a bunk bed, a two person sofa pull-out, a large bed and a kitchen. My roommate Lina and I shared the big bed which was very comfortable. Food was included in the trip price so we got a bag and ...

Day 4 - Route Napoleon, Verdon Gorge

... so spirited driving wasn't really possible. Until we left Verdon and rejoined Napoleon, then it livened up considerably! Stayed at a charming chalet type place in Baratier with sauna, jacuzzi and a pool (great for unwinding after 6+ hours of full-on driving ...

Stay in the Alpes

More information on this campsite can be found here. Beautifully located campsite with quite good facitlities at about 1500m altitude and one of the best views on the Lac Serre Poncon. Located very near the small Lac St.Apollinaire. Start of some great hikes right at the entrance of the campsite. The hikes are rather steep at the start.

Home Sweet Digne

Day 14 (3/12) Home Sweet Digne Seven countries, fourteen days, 602 photos, 615 Euros, and countless new acquaintances later, I arrived back at my destination in ONE piece, without any major hitches. I think I 'dun good: I saw most of what I wanted to see, but I didn't exhaust my possibilities. There will certainly be more to visit the next time around, if ...

Jetlagged and homesick, again

... officer 6. Publisher/Editor 7. Editor/Publisher 8. Personal finance advisor OK, the personal finance advisor one's a biiiiiit of a stretch, I know. I'm not much of a math person. But one thing I've realized lately is that I like having money--not so much spending it, but just knowing that I have it makes me feel secure. You might think that's shallow, but I'm just being honest with myself. People like me aren't supposed to value ...

The Land Of Side Show Bob

... thing! Christmas night we had a nice dinner I think - B and I were ****** by the time we got to dinner... we all went on a pub crawl afterwards. At the Piano Bar, I started to chat to our French Instructors (cause I wanted to try out my French ;)...) I can't even remember what I said to them, I dont even remember much of this night but there are photos of me kissing a man that resembles Side Show Bob from The Simpson. I know, I know ...

The day we almost died

Today was quite a lazy Sunday indeed. Holly, Mandy, and I went over to Zoe's apartment to make a little potluck brunch, but it was disrupted by an explosion in the kitchen. Zoe'd put a Pyrex dish of hash browns on an electric burner which she'd recently turned off, and when she moved the dish off the burner and on top of the toaster oven (her kitchen lacks good counter space ...

Culture Shock

... to bars (or, rather, the one bar in Digne), I noticed that an overwhelming majority of the party was men. (Why is that, by the way?!) Regardless, I was pleased because I got a laugh from the "*******s" impression I stole from Saturday Night Live: Cop: (to the witness of a crime) Can you describe the perpetrator? *******: (...After several moments of gum-smacking, hair-petting, and looking around, bored)He looked like Jesus. Cop: So...you're saying he had ...
