... Chairman Mao, which is entombed here in the square, but after seeing the huge queues (literally miles long) we opt against it. We enter the square and get the lowdown from Leah about the place – we quiz her re: the pro-democracy events that famously occurred here in 1989 (which is what most westerners think about when the name is mentioned) and we remain a little uncertain about the response. Not that we think Leah is towing the party line or anything like ...

... set that he told me was $1650 rmb which is about $275 I said no way. He dropped it to $650, still no way. Dropped it to $250, still no way because I didn't really need it. I walked away and he came after me and said $100 which is about $16 . How do you pass that up... I am now the proud owner of a beautiful chess set so I better learn how to play. We also picked up some beats for under $10.

Time to pack this all up for we leave ...

... can cost so much, but the tickets are worth around 560 pds each, just how much food & drink can you have? I thought it would include a room for the night too for that price, but it doesn’t! A very lavish banquet I would imagine, and maybe Santa & all the reindeer can put in an appearance!! Anyway, we’re not paying a penny, (or a yuan!) so it will taste even better I’m sure!!

The Forbidden City is a very impressive sight. It is China’s largest and best-preserved example of ancient buildings. We spent the whole morning here exploring the grounds and buildings including paying a little extra to go into the Clock Exhibition Hall and the Nine Dragon Screen. ... two young men came to our room with Tracy at the allotted time. Tracy introduced them and then left the men to give us both a full body massage lasting 90 minutes. This cost us 200 Yuan (about 20) each. Afterwards we had a good laugh about the experience but at the time they made us both ache in places we didn’t even know we had!
