Having arrived in Tucson, I found myself rather daunted at the idea of leaving my room- even to get food! Nice but lose the $9/day parking charge
Stayed in April '04. Lots of work going on at hotel - new carpets being installed in halls, etc. Lots of signs on property saying "exuse our mess, we're trying to improve." Stay was as expected based on other reviews on this site. Room had one robe but nice view of canyon. Hot breafast buffet $18/person with great omlet chef Dave who had local sightseeing advice to offer. We would have felt much better about spending money at the resort had we not been charged $9 per day parking fee; and instead we took our meal money off site and found some nice places to eat just down the road. Canyon hike was great and the exercise trail/walks behind the resort were well done. Enjoyed it - but the parking fee makes a horrible first, and last, impression.
Loved it as it was--years ago
I was back @ Ventana Canyon Resort in November and must say I was very disappointed with the changes--particularly in the lobby. I loved the large overstuffed furniture that much better fit the scale and ambience of the Resort in past years. I still love the resort--but do wish they would take another look at the first impression you get immediately upon entry. I just thought it was beautiful before they "redecorated".
I will still return as I always feel at home there. But my motto is "if it works don't fixt it"!
I still recommend this place as the best in Tucson, I just like the relaxing atmosphere and have been there many times over the past few years.
3 Star Resort at Best
My wife and I stayed at the resort the first week of March in a Suite.
The whole hotel experience was C-. The food was substandard, the spa facility was very, very expensive and out of date. Definately not worth the prices they charged. Our room (suite) was very dated and the hotel seemed to be old and looked like a ski lodge. We travel 6-8 times a year and usually stay at nice resorts and I can honestly say that I would not recommend this resort to my friends. I am very suprised that its a 4 star resort. Very out dated and needs remodeling.
This was not what I expected from a 4 star resort. Our room which was described as "deluxe with garden or desert view," looked out at a parking lot (about 10 feet from our balcony). When I called to ask for a new room, I was told that I would have to upgrade for an additional $35 a night and the only room they had available was two floors above where we were staying (still looking out at the parking lot). The next night we did move to a room with a city view for an extra $20 (because it was Sunday night), which was much better.
Nice, But not as nice as I expected.....
We just returned from Tucson and our stay at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort. Our mid-priced room ($225 per night) had the view they described, but they failed to mention the part about the parking lot in the foreground! The room was large, spa was nice but overall the hotel felt like a "convention" hotel. A sandwich and soda by the pool for two people cost us $40! Out of curiosity we drove to look at the Westin La Paloma. That's where we'll stay next time. Felt like a real resort, and it was beautiful!!!
1. We arrived after 5:30pm, tired from travelling, but had to wait 45 minutes to check-in to our room because they had no king bed rooms left. 2. I couldn't wait to take a hot bath in the double tubs I had read about. When we got to the room the bath had a grey moldy film from the faucet, past the spout and into the tub, gross. 3. We are in the frequent guest program but received no special treatment (paper etc..)4. The straw that broke the camel's back was when we were woken up at 8:30am by room service, pounding on our door and then opening the door, to get their tray back from the night before. 5. My husband and I couldn't return to sleep after the vigorous wake-up call. We complained to the front desk and they seemed shocked by room service but shrugged their shoulders - not offering any remedy.I paid $200 a night for this "experience" - don't make the same mistake. I would highly recommend the Boulders Resort as a real, restful and pampering resort alternative to Loew's Ventana.
We have stayed at this resort four years running post Xmas holidays. It is, for the most part, superb. The accomadations are first class, the views magnificent, the staff extraordinarily friendly, the food very good...but most of all, it instills tranquility. The resort is set back into Ventana Canyon. There are hikes, trails, private waterfalls and pools and a general sense of well being about the whole property. To rebutt another reviewer who called it a "Hampton Inn,"...you simply don't know what you're talking about. We stay all over the world and this is one of the best.
Wonderful area, wonderfully spacious rooms, great golf course, beautiful grounds, great food, great everything. I loved the feeling of space that this resort created. One of the best places I have ever stayed at.
May as well be Hampton Inn
This place was clean and nice enough, but for $350/night I expect much more. The rooms are no nicer than those in a Hampton Inn. The food is outrageously expensive ($13 for a "continental," or no hot items breakfast.) Service was marginal.
Loved This Resort
My husband and I, and three teenagers stayed here in February for a few days. We had a parlor room and an adjoining regular room. Not only did we get a great rate from the hotel web site, they discounted the second room for the kids. Our rooms were so luxurious and large. This is a beautiful hotel with great pools, restaurants, hiking trails and special activities. We didn't leave the resort much. We took a special tour of the kitchens with the Chef that we will always remember. I highly recommend this hotel for everyone.
