Last drink at the hotel which by the way, we would recommend. The Vdara is great: customer service attentive (we had a clogged shower drain, and they were up and fixing it), nice suite room with frig, 2 burner stove, microwave, 2 large flat screens, sofa, etc., and spacious bathroom. DOWNSIDE: no casino and no real restaurant. Close to sister hotel, Aria, where there is a casino and restaurants.

Got up the next day and decided to walk to the Waterfall trail from our campsite. Had been given conflicting information on where the trail began and how to access it. We walked along the road but it was very shady and the trees were immense. We walked into one campsite where there were the stumps of some of the redwoods that were huge.

... not too far away from our destination, and soon were installed at Deetjen's which had been recommended by Mo & Adrienne. The old-world cabins have an amazing atmosphere as does the dining room where, although there is electric lighting, it all feels like it's candle-lit. The food was delicious, the staff friendly and helpful and it didn't take long for the anxieties of the drive to fall away.

so off to san simeon but first the rgeat highway one drive and the BIG SUR Coast..............
now arrived at san simeon after 3 hours driving up and dwon bends andhills clingin to the coastline...................stunning coast, poor tom ...
... before it got dark. Matt with his foot down and me trying to use Google on my Blackberry (and cursing at it as we dipped in and out of valleys losing signal) I managed to find an available campsite in a little coastal town called Pismo Beach about 90 miles north.
