Today was the final day of our tour, but sadly we could not hike due to pouring rain. Luckily we are at a nice hotel in an actual town (Charmonix) which is a good place for a day off. We've all been relaxing Ryan on his phone and I spending an enjoyable day reading on the kobo. Mom and dad have just been walking around. That ...

    A long day

The day started out pretty normal with clouds threatening and the odd drop of rain. Our goal today was to head over into France once again via the col de Balme, on the border of France and Switzerland. Well me made it, but not quite as planned... After leaving the Col de la Forclaz we headed towards the hamlet of le Peuty, but somewhere along the way we missed a turn and ended up in Trient - this was after a fair bit of downhill... Up we go again and finally ...

Today we make our way back to France over the Arete des Posettes, a whale backed ridge - supposed to be a gentler day of only 15 kilometers and 2500 ft elevation gain and loss. The high point will be the Col de Balme which is supposed to have a funky restaurant for lunch... -- ...

This morning was an early start (6 AM) to catch the TGV train to Geneva. We had to take the metro to Paris Lyon, where we bought lunch for on the train, and then caught it to Switzerland. It was a bit slower than the Eurostar and took around 4:30. Otherwise it all went smoothly though. Once in Geneva, we caught the tram to CERN, the end of the line, and were slowly transferred ...

    Geneve on the lake

A travel blog entry by njmacindia on Aug 14, 2013

Up early today for our journey from Lindau to Geneva. Lyle and Helen off to Munich and Liz, Bill and Anne off to his cousin Rudeger. Chris, Tony Jud and I off to Geneve at 9am. First hurdle was the tickets as we had eurail passes for Germany, Italy and Switzerland but not for the short journey through Austria. An extra 13€ saved the day. Long journey thought the mountains past lakes and many beautiful scenes. ...
