    Martinique loomed into view in the early morning and we cruised most of the way down her length. We were headed for the bay in front of the capital Fort de France. We slipped into anchor under the watchful eye of the impressive Fort Saint Louis. It is a little in disrepair, but is still a military base in contrast to a lot of forts across the Caribbean and so we weren't able to do more than admire it from a distance.

    ... who we had met in Lanzarote. Needless to say a few tales swopped! He too had his steering pin snap mid Atlantic. Then the 102 miles to Martinique, bypassing Dominica as we didn't fancy being hassled by the boat boys who reputedly come out with a welcoming committee to " help" you tie off, anchor etc.and want money of course. A great sail, 9 knots on an East wind reach till we passed Dominica and getting dark.Our speed then increased to 11 knots, the swell from 4 m to 6 ...

    I had at last managed to source and order the Watermaker membranes direct from the manufacturer in Florida. Then to deliver them by FedEx to the marina address another $150us. To pay was just another glitch!! They wanted me to fill a form giving every single detail of my card, then a photocopy of both front and back of it and sign it and send back!! Unbelievable! So emails and phone calls went back and forth asking for any other way ...
