"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses" Well almost, it's 382KM to Lake Louise, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of M&M's, it's a pleasantly sunny day and we're wearing sunglasses. - Hit It! Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada gilesandnikkiIt was another early start after a quick breakfast at MacDonalds. And it was another day of clear skies and nice warm weather. The foot hills were now taking us back into the mountains, and the weather was getting cooler as we rode. We went through several avalanche tunnels and saw the spiral train tunnels. We stopped at the scenic Rogers Pass area and had one of John's special lunches, mussels on bread with a diet coke, and some of our bird food that we picked up at the health food store y...
Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada jstephenscaI was currently going to uni in New York City and had 2 holidays where I went out to Lake Louise, Golden, and Fernie. I went to Lake Louise over the xmas holidays and that was a perfect opportunity to pack in some great riding! Since it was over the holidays the mountain was very busy with long line. I was visiting some friends who worked out there so I stayed in The Lake Louise Inn for 3 days. I tried to reserve a spot in the hostel but it was fully booked. Since I was staying in my friend's...
Lake Louise, Golden, Fernie, Alberta, Canada serenebeanIt's August, right? This morning, we woke up to snow and rain. It is so cold - and we have to take down the tent. What a thrill. Not only that, but the rain makes for a really sucky drive into the Rocky Mountains. There's so much fog, we can hardly even see them! We stop at a look out point (LOOK OUT!) to see Castle Mountain, but there's still too much fog to see the mountain properly, so the castle is only half a castle. Mario wants to take highway 1A to Lake Louise from Banff, the scenic ro...
Fairmont Hot Springs, British Columbia, Canada skyisbluFirst thing this morning, I took Mario to the coffee shop, Mountain Perks, to prove a point I've been trying to prove for the past year. Mountain Perks makes THE BEST Chai latte that I've tasted to this day, and believe me, I've tasted a lot of Chai latte. Finally, after a year of convincing, Mario agrees with me. We head to the nearby non-tourist town(meaning actual people live there), Invermere, to shop, and have lunch at the Blue Dog Café. They make amazingly tasty sandwiches. Back to Fair...
Fairmont Hot Springs, British Columbia, Canada skyisbluSaturday August 27, 2005 Finally, we are back in the mountain....we drove through Banff National Park, soaking in the sights along the way. We toured through Banff briefly, signing up for a rafting trip the next day on the Kicking Horse river just outside Yoho National Park. Our next stop was Lake Louise. We drove up to the Lake Louise hotel and spent a few hours up there.....taking pictures beside the lake, watching all the crazy tourists and wandering through the hotel. After some slight co...

... and Geoff, a wonderful couple with a real interest in people and so informative. We felt so at home it was a struggle to leave. We found time for a soak in the hot springs before we left. Tues morning we left at 8am and about a mile up the hill we saw our 1st bear. Hearts pounding when we saw it was a black cub, we put in a spurt to get further up the hill as we didn't know where mum was. Looking back we saw ...
Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada eoinandrosie... snow - unfortunately it was cloudy and I didn't get to see it, but I still took photos anyway.....we had a discovery talk the next morning and somebody described Bruce as looking like a Lumberjack - complete with his hat and check-jacket.....I didn't see any bears around Lake Louise but we were curious whether we had seen some interesting evidence in the snow - the evidence did not look like the elk evidence all around Jasper Park Lodge.....
Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada jules.in.canada... to coffee and nibbles and at 17:00 they serve pre-dinner canapés. Last night the canapés were our dinner! This afternoon we had signed up for another one of the hotel's activities. We went to a gingerbread house-making session! We were surprised how many people were there and some of them take ...
Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada tomodea... Our guide Matt was crazy but a lot of fun. We geared up and got the safety talk in the bus. We got to the Raft and there was our group, two teenage guys from Holland and two guys from Whales. Matt was telling us about the conditions of the water and how the first lot of rapids were up to a level 5 because of the rain. One of the guys from Whales ended up nearly sitting in Liz's lap they were freaking out so much. It was so much fun,. I love rafting. All of the guides are completly ...
