... and then on into Palm Springs. Water used to good effect here - lots of green.

Went up Chino Canyon 8,500 ft (2 miles) in a tramcar with a revolving floor so that everyone gets the same view. Cost $34m to build and is pretty amazing. Photos from the top weren't good as it was too hazy and it was very cool up there.

Finally to the Hyatt hotel and a Chinese dinner. ...

... that hem in the San Bernardino Valley. As the development thins and the city thins, the gnarled heath mountain-sides give way to low scrub desert.

A pale gravel and sand base extends as far as the eye can see, with the only vegetation being small succulent ground cover, tough spinifex-like grass and cactus...and an enormous wind farm.

The valley, the pass and hill crests are covered with white propellers: most large or very large, but clusters of small ones ...

The glorious looking beach isn't sand, but made up of bones from all the fish caught by the birds and have built up over time to give the appearance of sand. One would not walk across it in bare feet. For the first time in my life I realise it must be me that is mad. Parked to our left is a 65 year ...

... 42C (109F) today. The premium outlets are well worth a days visit when in the USA, you get lots of bargains with stores like Oakley, Tag, Columbia, Nike, Calvin Klein, Coach Handbags, Jimmy Choo, North Face and many more. These outlets are huge and would take most of the day to do all of the shops. There is construction underway to add more stores which are supposed to open early next year. We gave up about 2pm as it was packed and people ...

        It's cold in the desert

It's actually warmer today (and dry) but it might be because we are better prepared and know when to pile on layers of clothes! Today we see the Vaccines, Noel Gallagher's high flying birds (who did an awesome rendition of Don't look back in anger!), Kasabian, try to get into David Guetta party tent then finish on Radiohead. Kasabian is the highlight of the day as is this weird trippy dance/acrobatic/arty/surreal performance by Lucent Dossier Experience to dubstep music in ...
