Krabi, Thailand

Getting to Krabi turned out to be quite an ordeal. The first issue was the ferry tickets we had purchased - we were supposed to take an afternoon ferry that went to Phi Phi and then Krabi... and supposedly all hotel transfers were included. When we arrived at the pier we were told that the Krabi hotel transfer was not included. Five minutes later we were told that this ferry did not even go to Krabi - they had recently stopped the afternoon trips there and we would have to stay in Phi Phi ove...

Krabi ,Thailand

July 3 to the 7th we went to Krabi, Thailand. We stayed at the Krabi Resort on Ao Nang beach. Some facilities were a little run down, but it is clean and convenient. In addition, it has a private beach with direct beach access. Tours and day trips can easily be arranged from the tour desk, or you can arrange them outside from other vendors. The boathouse restaurant has good food, but if you take a 3-5 minute beach walk to the seafood restaurant strip and you have a plethora of choices serving...

A tropical paradise, five wishes and a setback

I'm sitting here on Ao Nang beach in Krabi province (southern Thailand) just a few steps from my bungalow at the Krabi Resort. The sea breeze is gorgeous and the view of the Andaman Sea and the amazing limestone outcrops jutting out on the horizon is simply stunning. We (my mum, my sister Judith, my two friends Allan and Nigel and I) arrived here three days ago. We're lucky to even have made it here. The political unrest afflicting Thailand right now had resulted in the closure of its main ai...

The Thailander (Part 2 - The Thailand Islander)

... saying my farewells to the girls I grabbed a map and headed for the viewpoints. Viewpoint hunting is becoming a bit of a habit now! Yep, very nice view from the top of viewpoint 2 :) The other benefit of viewpoint hunting is that you can scout an area for attractions. Handy.
This night was halloween, and every bar in the area was hosting a party with promises of free buckets (a small bucket of nuclear-grade alcohol, not the cannabis gimmick) for various reasons, so ...

Time for a Little Vacation in Paradise

... back to Railay, I will take ddefinitely go Ao Nang for a night too. When we finally got back to Railay we decided that it was time for the beach! After all, that IS what we essentially came for. Again, the beach was amazing and I actually even got to watch the sunset. Living in MB for the past 7 years, I never had a chance to watch the sunset, so it was really cool that in the mornings I could watch the sunrise and then at night could go to the other side and watch the sunset. Just ...

Butterfly Guide through the Jungle

... the jungle. The whole trip sounded so rustic; I knew we were going to be thrust into a dangerous environment with wild animals and dengue fever all around. It was going to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get to know a place from a different angle. I was expecting a guide who would go around with a machete showing me how to make rope out of leaves and find water in bamboo trees. Then comes Tom.

I will never forget the moment Tom came to pick us up from Mild Bungalows ...

Phi Phi smells like Pee Pee

This is Jaye here, as Hamish is lazy (edited by Hamish)- We spent a couple of days on Phi Phi which I think was definitely enough. It was like a backpacker theme park. Or like a constant schoolies party with Thai boy girls. Also everything on it is super expensive, so as 2 tight bums, this wasn't really good for us. We arrived via ferry from Phuket mid afternoon. Getting off the ferry it was very hot and we had our heavy backpacks on and were of course hassled to ...

Krabi Ao-Nang - 4 Days

... as every guide book you read will tell you Bangkok is the cheapest place. We booked a 5 island tour for tomorrow for 690 bahts each which seems very reasonable for a whole day trip. We catch a cocktail Happy hour and have dinner then mooch around the shops and stalls. There is a really heavy downpour of rain, so we headed for another bar to take shelter, it's a hard life. Day 8 - Up early today as being collected for our trip at 8.30am. Went to inspect the hotels ...

Scuber divin' at the phi phi islands

... boated around the islands and we clambored through the 'back door' cave of an island to avoid docking fees. Walking across the island was only about 5 minutes, so we walked around then went back to the boat. Offsprey showed us the ol' pirate cave, and some of the other islands. Ko Phi Phi is made up of 7 islands. Another island has the famous 'monkey beach'. We didn't dock, but you CAN dock and hang with the monkeys. They were SO cute, scampering around the ...

Ko Phi phi, beach party, goodbye ted

... other mug will do. What happened to backpackers who like to bargain?! or is it just because im tight and yorkshire? Hmm! Anyway as long as your on the beach facing out towards the ocean you can imagine this place being secluded and wonderful, i had a fun time here but was ever so slightly naive about how busy it was going to be. And this was quiet season. I hope all the islands on thailand aint like this to be honest!
