Locked Bag 15 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, 88990, 6088-386-775
I had called a tour agency "Sanctuary Borneo" and signed up for the Hot Springs & Kinabalu Park day tour. When calling the agency, the tour operator was surprised when I said I was local. No local sign up for Kinabalu Park tours. It is like if you are Singaporean and sign up for a tour of Sentosa. Or if you are from KL and sign up for a tour of Genting. ^_^ The day trip was RM140 per person. It would not cost so much if you drive up or take the public bus. The mountains are too scary for me t...
Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia lemonedlimesRob and Anjali now drive two and half hours by bus to the Kinabalu Pine Resort in the valley below towering Mt. Kinabalu, just outside the boundary of Borneo's world renowned national park. Time to beat the heat It was another blistering hot day in Kota Kinabalu as we sat sweating at the bus station waiting to be delivered from the pressure cooker town. Anjali tried to take shelter inside the bus while Rob kept an eye on the bags in the bus below and chatted with the Phillipino watch sellers ...
Mt. Kinabalu National Park, Malaysia robanjaliAfter conducted the audit at Sabah Plant, I continued my second trip to Mt. Kinabalu trekking, P.3 and additional Manukan island and Sapi island. Pine Resort provided a green environment surrounding with pines, fresh air, cold weather and the Mt. Kinabalu was hidden behind the cloud. A good rest made a group of us have a good day for trekking from mesilau to laban rata. Stepped on the foot of Mt. Kinabalu, crossing the streams, wet stones, bridges, passed by waterfalls, trees... It's all from...
Sabah, Malaysia yokosyl... see some rare animals along the banks of the river, such as the Pigmy Elephant and the extremely rare Clouded Leopard. The first trip was amazing: We saw a couple wild boars, a huge water monitor dragging a frog away for dinner, about 100 Proboscis Monkeys jumping all over the trees, and a handful of colorful Kingfisher birds. I could never say that I was disappointed because we saw so much wildlife, but I would have liked to see some elephants and crocs. I returned ...
Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia lbraun... from KK, and consequently full buses on the roads in the direction in which we wished to travel. Amazingly, the policy here is that once the seats are full, the bus is full, so there’s no stopping to cram on more passengers. Logical once you think about it, but almost unprecedented in our experience! But then I suppose our benchmark is the height of civilisation that is London… Sadly for us, this made it very difficult ...
Mount Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia rachelandmike... but the upside of that was that it was really clean, first place we have seen no rubbish lying around. One of the big attractions here is the canopy walkway which is literally a one man wide swing bridge suspended from the very top of the trees. It is really hard to capture in photos but you are very very high up (41m) and it is not all that stable so not for the faint hearted (ie me). We all did it though and the kids loved it. We also checked out a ...
Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia brinvincible... from Borneo, we had another week off at my school. This time for the first week of school. The Korean school year begins in March, and since we pull students from their public schools, we can't justify taking them during their first week. This is great for us foriegn teachers who get the week off. It's not so great for the Korean teachers who are forced to sit through lectures and do prep work the entire week. Considering Helen is one of those Korean ...
Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, Malaysia wjrohde... on a platform pulled by the train and chugging along through the jungle to get to the starting point of the Padas river (this was the only way to get there). The White water rafting was so much fun! We travelled down through some crazy rapids - some waves being higher than 2 meters and resulting in us being soaked! The instructors were brilliant and constantly splashed us with water and jumped out of the boat and tried pushing us in the river, all totally safe of ...
Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia katandstevie... In the middle of nowhere, with jungle/forest all around and one road, they dropped us off at some sign for Nuts Huts, which said 750m walk. This was along a dirt track, and in the heat with your backpack was some walk! Not fun in flip flops, through mud and puddles. Then, when we finally thought we'd arrived, it was only 200 odd steps down to the reception area. By this time Andy had had enough, he was not happy! A little flustered one might say. After ...
