... and listened on the radio as we drove out of town. Eastern Iowa is a blur of corn and gas stations. Altoona, the Amana Colonies, Iowa City, the Quad Cities. We did stop for a spell at the World's Biggest Trick Stop in Wolcott, a mega gas station with showers , a trucker shop, truckomat, a chapel, a food court, several unique shops, a museum. This was as advertised. We crossed the Mississippi near our winter eagle hunting grounds and drove across the lush farmland of Whiteside and ...

Chicago business is taken care of, and packing Is almost done. On this day last year, we were deep in the heart of ...

... Louis barely exists. There is a casino and nothing else. Most people who could have moved out. Gangs and drug dealers roam the lawless, abandoned, non-paved streets. The authorities don't care. Trees were growing through the walls of buildings on the main drag. It is second only to Camden, New Jersey, on the list of places I do not want to stop.

I rode around. The GPS directed me to several ghost gas stations. Finally one existed where the GPS said it would be. I put in ...

On the road again today for a short jaunt to Chicago (actually just north of the city in Evanston). But we did squeeze in one more trip to a cheese shop before leaving Wisconsin. Had a great lunch near our hotel. Bill had shrimp and crawfish étouffée that he pronounced as good as what he ...
