Maldives!

Arrived in the Maldives on our anniversary. Didn't get charged for our extra baggage which was fab as we were way over! Got our sea plane over to the Kuredu island resort which took about 40 minutes. Cracking views of all of the other Maldivian islands on the way. Got a welcome drink and then got checked into our beach villa. It was gorgeous! Just a short walk from the bars and restaurants yet it felt totally isolated with our own wee bit of beach right in front of the villa. Had an open air ...

Wonderful island. Can't really say much about what we did as you are surrounded by sand and sea. We had a routine every day and it went something like this: 8am - breakfast 9am - beach to read and do puzzles 10.30am - went to bar for a non-alcoholic drink 10.35am - back to spot on beach to carry on reading and then snorkel 12pm - back to room to freshen up for lunch 12.30pm - lunch 1.15pm - back to room to change and put on more lovely sun cream 1.30pm - back to spot on beach for more reading...

Wonderful snorkelling

from A TripAdvisor Member
It's a fabulous island... but aren't they all? We visited Kuredu in January 2003, before the relatively recent re-fit (which I understand has raised their star-rating by 1). Even so, it was a great resort -- and though it was our first trip to the Maldives, we've been to a few other places and still haven't beaten it.

One signficant difference with Kuredu, was their attitude towards snorkellers. Unlke some islands, they look after their snorkellers pretty much as well as they look after scuba divers. The reef is easy to get to from the shore, and you don't have to take a day boat out for serious snorkelling... although they do run day boats, which is a great way to get to other parts of the reef. For example, they run "snorkelling safaris", which will take you away from the island for an extended trip to multiple snorkelling sites (when we were there, they ran 1- and 2-day safaris, although we understand that now they only run 1-day safaris).

Food was good, albeit a bit samey. However, there are a range of restaurants (we tended to stick with the main restaurant, as we were on an All-Inclusive package).

2 Different Worlds

from Michael74
This is by far the best hoiday I have been on. Having been to the Dominican Republic twice, Mexico, Australia and most of Europe this place is just paradise.

From the moment you step off the sea plane and make sure you do travel by sea plane, everything is done for you.

The food is buffet style but there is enough every night to satisfy your needs. The staff are polite and most helpful. All the A la Carte restaurants are of a high standard and again the service is second to none.

On land there is so much to do and the island itself is beyond words. However, there is another world under the water and so much to see.

If you are thinking of booking a holiday here, do it, you won't be disapointed. We came home in June 2004 and we are booked again for September next year.

WHITE SAND GUARANTEED!

from A TripAdvisor Member
stayed on kuredu island for 12 nights in January 2004 on our honeymoon. Island was v busy as peak season but the service was still excellent. We stayed in the jacuzzi beach villa which was amazing. So clean and comfy. Bring loads of CDs. This allows access to the sanju restaurant where you do not share a table. When on honeymoon last thing you want is stuck at table with 2 strangers!!!

Food was delicious, does get a little repetitive. Tip! Bring snacks e.g crisps with you v expensive on the island and sometimes late at night you do get hungry!

Would highly recommend this hotel. Be prepared to relax. and you will have the holiday of a lifetime. Perfect for honeymoon, as very private.

bar staff excellent, tip well and they will make you cocktails for free though you make not thank them in morning!!!!

Paradise Found

My partner and I spent two weeks in a water villa at Sangu last November/December and was a holiday of a lifetime. What you see on the postcards is even better in real life. The white sands, the crystal clear waters and the marine life is totally amazing. We even had small sharks swimming under our water villa.

We ate in the Sangu restaurant and the food was brilliant. Service was excellent and I would have no hesitation returning to this wonderful island.

One tip I would give is about tipping. A small tip early in the holiday makes for even better service but we found a sony walkman or a Manchester United strip was even more welcome

Greetings from Paradise

from A TripAdvisor Member
Greetings from Paradise....it has to be seen to be believed. My partner and I had a 2 week all inclusive holiday on the Kuredu Island in June of this year (2004) and is was FANTASTIC. We chose the standard accommodation a beach bungalow that comes with either twin beds or a kingsize (on checking in make sure you get a double), and all of the beach bungalows are situated a safe but close distance from the Indian Ocean. For us the standard accommodation was more than OK as you don't usually go all the way to the Maldives to spend 2 weeks indoors! Each bungalow has a decked terrace with 2 sun loungers and a table on - most people dragged these onto the beach during the day. The partial open air bathroom was really different and comprised of a shower, toilet and basin. The bathroom suite was covered and the open-air part was a very small shingled section of garden. So whilst showering you still have the luxery of experiencing the heat. Your all inclusive deal covers unlimited soft drinks and local alcoholic beverages, so if cocktails are your chosen drink these will cost you in excess of $5 each, the same applies for named brands ie Baileys, Glenmorangie etc. The food is great and is themed each night, there is plenty of fish available and you usually see the fishing boat arrive in the early afternoon. There are 2 a la carte restaurants that will cost you extra but both are worth sampling - fantastic cuisine. You do not need to take any $US with you because from the moment you arrive on the island a tab is set up for you and you don't need to depart with a dollars until the day before you check out, which is when you are expected to settle your bill. If you buy postcards and stamps in the little shop these will also be added to your bill. Shops do not really exist on this Island - there is a small gift shop, jewellery shop, photo processing shop and diving shop. There is also a library where you are encouraged to leave books for other travellers to read and books are available in several languages. There are plenty of excursions to sign up for and we can highly recommend the day trip on the Britt. The snorkelling opportunities are amazing and we hear that the diving is pretty awesome too. There is a high possibility of you seeing numerous reef sharks - they are harmless. As the only Maldivian island (at present) that hosts a golf course this we can highly recommend. As golf lovers we spent a lot of our time there. This again is at an extra cost and the only complaint we had was that on arrival to the Island there are no discounts for block purchases and there is no option to buy a week membership etc If you are a keen golfer we strongly advise that you take your own balls as they are very expensive out there. The course is a six hole par three and the greens are astro turf, there is also a driving range and this will also cost you extra. Look out for the buy one get one free deals during the day, these work out much cheaper. The island also features it very own golf pro who is on hand for any lessons you may want to sign up for. We had a truely amazing holiday and as great as it was we are not sure at this stage if we would plan an immediate return trip to Kuredu as this has now given us the bug to want to experience some of the other Maldivian Islands!

Paradise found

We holidayed here from 7th-21st June 04. We were in a water villa in the Sangu end of the resort where guests can use the extra bar and restaurant on an all inclusive basis - they can also use all of the restaurants and bar A/I in the main resort. Drinks in the Al a Carte restaurants 'Thai' 'Grill' and 'Italian' are also included on the all inclusive. The cost of a two course meal in these restaurants are approx $35-55 for two people.

Accomodation on the island varies in standard with the best and most expensive being the water villas, the least expensive being the beach bungalows. The water villa and Jacuzzi beach villa guests can use the 'Sangu' facilities which offer a slightly better choice of food in the main restaurant where guests can sit where they want (never have to share) and can also choose to sit outside on the deck area (which overlooks the beach/ocean) for dinner. The bar here also has outdoor seating on a deck area on the beach. The guests at the Sangu end also have the use of a taxi to get round the island (not really needed) and later check out times for seaplane transfers.

The water villas have the only indoor bathrooms on the island with a lovely walk-in shower, four poster beds, CD player, mini bar (expensive prices) and safe. They have a double deck area with steps into the sea, comfy sunbeds and table and chairs.

When we arrived at the resort we were given advice by the guest relations on tipping and were told that the norm for good service was $10 per week for the room boy and $15 per week for the waiter. Bar staff were tipped when guests felt it appropriate. (We tipped bar staff around $50 between them over the course of the holiday as the service was great).

We found the food on the island to be very good with many choices in the buffet - there were a few spicy dishes each mealtime, at least two veggie dishes, always two pasta dishes and at least four meat dishes always accompanied by a good choice of fresh vegetables. The chefs always cooked at least three choices at the grill. There was also a plentiful salad buffet. We only went to two of the A la carte (Thai and Italian) and both were of a very high standard.

For mosquito bites we used 'Jungle formula' which worked well and although we got a few bites walking around the island at night we had no problems with any kind of pest in the accomodation at all.

The cost of our holiday was £3400 for two which included scheduled flights with 'Emirates' via Dubai, sea plane transfers and two nights in the Rydges Plaza Dubai on the way home with transfers to and from the airport. We booked last July with Travel choice (now First Choice) from the Hayes and Jarvis brochure.

To sum up - since I've come home all I can think about is ways to get back again. It is beautiful with the friendliest most gentle people I've ever met. Real paradise.

Absolute Paradise

from NatWade
Kuredu was complete paradise on Earth. I went there in March 2003 with my now fiance and we really did have the time of our lives. The island has a lot more going on than some of the others seemed to - i.e. you couldn't just walk around it in 5 minutes! Although you should try and canoe around it - much hilarity attempting that!

The island itself is beautiful, with crystal clear waters and pure white sands. I would recommend taking the sea plane transfer so you can see Kuredu and the other atolls from the air - breath-taking! Also, it gets you there much quicker than the boat!

We stayed in the most basic accommodation, the beach bungalow, but as we weren't in our room much, it was fine. Also it was on the side of the island with the sunset, so we have some amazing photos from that time of day, taken from our room. The best room category looked to be the beach villas or jacuzzi beach villas, as these were on the loveliest stretch of beach. The Sangu water villas, although beautiful, were over water that was nowhere near as clear and lovely as the vbeach villas.

The food was really tasty and not surprisingly I put on about 1/2 a stone over my fortnight there! The theme changed each night and there were a la carte restaurants you could eat at (at an extra cost), but we never tried these as the buffets were so varied and yum! The alcohol left a little to be desired, as no premium brands were included in the all-inclusive, but we made up some concoctions that didn't taste too bad! Definitely go all-inclusive though, as I heard prices were as much as $3 US for a coke!

Watersports were plentiful, with a taster session of a different sport each afternoon. We tried out kite surfing and wind surfing, but decided not to pay to do any proper lessons, as we preferred to snorkle instead. The snorkling at Kuredu is out of this world. We had never seen anything like it. Hundreds of different fish of all shapes, sizes and colours. Even turtles just off the shore! Just watch out for the trigger fish...they'll tell you about those when you first get your snorkling gear!

Evening entertainment was fun, our favourites being the music quiz and the hermit crab race night! If you're there for a fortnight, try and win the music quiz both weeks, as we did and apparently it's not done very often!

The staff are very friendly - our waiter Hafeez even decorated one of our friends we met's table on his birthday with fresh flowers he picked himself and origami ones made out of coloured napkins.

All in all we had an unforgettable time in Kuredu and would really recommend the island to anyone wanting to go to the Maldives to somewhere where there's a little more going on than just a few huts and some sand!

I hope if you decide to go you enjoy it as much as we did.

Fantastisch.

Fantastic.

Probably the best (and most gorgeous) place in the world.

The food was fantastic.

The snorkelling trips were brilliant (I suggest the one to the shipwreck)

The Beach was breathtaking.

Absolutley out of this world.

May I also add that if you can spend a night or two on The Britt. As this was the highlight of the holiday for me.
