FAR FROM THE FEZ OF FATPOPPADADDIES FAME...

... wasn't scary or anything. So I was dropped off at my hotel, pleased with my luck.

I had a hotel room all to myself. I promptly went to sleep, because I had been staying up really late at night but getting up early for 3-4 nights in a row and had accumulated a bit of a sleep debt.

Met my group that evening. It was a nice, small group of seven people, myself included. Two older women travelling alone, a young couple with the girl's mother, and one young woman and myself ...

We're Here!

We're here!!!! I just called my sister via Skype, and she could hear me as clear as day. It's 11:30 am Saturday, but really 6:30 am at home. The last 12 hours or so have been a little nuts. As soon as we got off the plane at JFK, we had to haul ourselves to another terminal, check in again, and board. The flight here went pretty well, but customs went slow. "Jalal," who is an assistant to the District Governor for Rotary, met us at the airport and ...

Casablanca - Never Imagined...

... The reports were right, lots of fake bags, clothes, belts, and a few trinket shops. We had a late lunch the outskirts of the Medina at a restaurant built in an old fortress, complete with canons and turrets. Final day in town we slept in and then took the train to the airport for our departure from Africa. Travelling by air feels freakin amazing! It's like checking into a nice hotel or something...a break from typical grungy backpacker travel.

Groundhog's Day

... in the kitchen. When we returned to our rooms, everything was on the floor and a mess. Luckily Rachel was in the room when the stabilizers were turned off so our computers were fine. I put a sea sick patch on the first night we were back on the ship because I felt so bad and I am glad I did because I have not felt sea sick at all with it on. However, some of my friends, including my roommate, tried to ...

Day 11-Morocco, Casablanca-Cheese Burger Challenge

... and games begun. Martin returned not long after to report that the football was in Casablanca after all. Hahhaaa oop's. At least the bar was showing it so after dinner we all ventured in there. Sarah and Oliver gave a wonderful rendition of Les Miserables, we discovered that Oliver has the hots for Nahla the lioness out of the Lion King, Morocco won and 1,2,3,4 drinking game started up ending in quite a messy night indeed.

Cruisin' In Casablanca

... to only stay one night we hopped off the train and headed for the HI youth hostel that was nearby. We were immediately welcomed by a multitude of odours, the most prominent being of fish and garbage, followed closely by something close to latrines. The fish smell was probably due to the large port sitting beside the train station and the various fish parts that littered the streets, and the garbage was probably due to the large amount of garbage ...

Casablanca, updates, and a few pics

... and got off on the train stop!), and navigated ourselves around Casablanca. We found the mosque, took the bus like the locals, saw the old and new Medina and bought meals using our very limited Arabic and French. It was a really fun day but it was definitely exhausting! Here are some pictures from my house (with more to come) and a few from Casablanca, I still need to upload more to my computer but I wanted to share at least a few with you. I really miss you all!

... by the painter Mariano Fortuny. Took the bus to Granada that night, and after getting wrong directions, and falling over in the middle of an alleyway, we found the hostel (Oasis Hostel... totally reccomend). Next day we saw Alhambra.. despite the biting wind we explored the palace and its surroundings.. the best palace ive ever seen... the ceilings were stalagtitic, fountains and orange trees, beautiful gardens, mosaics.... and the alleyways thru granada were ...
