The Marriott Kauai Resort was fabulous! The pool area is very large with plenty of lounge chairs for the picking! The property sits on Kalapaki Beach, which is in a bay area. There are plenty of water activities to partake in or just have fun watching! The sunsets are spectacular as it sets over the mountain across the bay! The food was always delicious and any staff I interacted with was very friendly and helpful. There are car rentals on site and also shops/restaurants within walking distance. Quick shuttle ride from the airport... only about 5 minutes, however, you do not hear or see any planes taking off or landing... apparently that happens to the north of the airport!

Pleasant tourist hotel with excellent pool and veranda above. Good breakfast served by charming staff. View from our room very boring. Adjacent restaurants good but no local shops worth the name.

Historical Traveler Reviews Kauai Marriott Resort Lihue
Excellent Resort-We never left it!
My husband and 6 year old daughter were at this resort for 6 days and five nights. It was breathtaking. We were in a timeshare suite. It was clean, beautiful and we had an ocean-front view. Every morning we woke to a beautiful vision of the beach and mountains. There was so much to do with all the water activities from sailing to snorkeling right there at the resort. The pool was awesome and the beach was fantastic. I have very high expectations and the Marriott fulfilled each one of them. We will be back anytime we can. It was the vacation of our lifetime!
Marriott Resort and Beach Club - reconsider!
We stayed at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club in early August 2003. When we arrived our room was not ready, nor was it ready when we came back at 5 pm after touring the entire island and taking our time.
The staff did not apologize, nor give us any preferential treatment.
As a platinum member, it is not unusual for me to get room upgrades but I believe we got a downgrade. We were on the 3rd floor with a view of the kid's pool. We had paid for a pool/oceanview room but from our room we could hardly see anything.
The room was not very clean, nor was it kept clean during our visit.
Also, we used the snorkel rental at True Blue. They had run out of equipment and sent us over to their "sister" shack at the Waiohai. We were told all would be sorted for a week's rental but when we arrived the guy wouldn't let us take the snorkels for more than one hour. He was also extremely rude. Bring your own snorkel equipment or go to Bob's!
I wouldn't come back to this property any time soon. Also the architecture doesn't suit Hawaii. It's gaudy and needs to be updated.
Is it Hawaii or Europe?
Marriott was great
We just got back from the Kauai Marriott and our whole family had a blast! We were a family of 17- 11 adults and 6 children. Everyone really enjoyed themselves. The kids loved the pool. They even had a kiddie pool for the babies. And the adults loved everything. The food was good, something for everyone. The rooms were spacious and the views were spectacular. We overlooked the pool and could see the beach from our lanai. There wasn't one person in our group who didn't enjoy staying at the Marriott. I'd recommend it to my friends. We all want to go back!!
Worst hotel experience ever!!!
My father has a Marriott timeshare and gave us one weekn for our honeymoon. We were able to stay at this hotel for 1 week for FREE, but it was so bad that we checked out after 1 night and immediately headed to the Hyatt. As we told the Marriott when we left, the rooms were so disgusting that we would rather pay $2,000 to stay at the Hyatt for a week rather than stay there for free. The rooms were NOT CLEAN. THERE WAS A PILE OF FINGERNAILS ON THE CARPETING!! The rooms are completely outdated. There was disgusting dust and dirt collected along the molding of the walls. We decided to stick it out one night and wait to check out the pool facilities the next morning. We got up- walked around the beach- saw the smoke stacks from the factory just across the way and checked out. To add insult to injury, when I called Marriott after we got home to discuss our horrible experience, they never even responded!!!
Consider professional help if this resort doesn't please you!
Our family ended a two week island vacation with three days in Kauai.
We stayed at the Marriott in Lihue which was the perfect resort for a
relaxing conclusion to our trip. We did not rent a car here as we
planned on just kicking back poolside/beachside.
If you fly into Lihue, the Marriott has a shuttle right at the airport and it is a very short distance to the hotel. They will take care of everything. Since we have 4 children this was helpful. Check-in is a breeze and we found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable.
The grounds at this hotel were well-kept and lovely. If you are a
gardener you will be green with envy. The pool is large and
well-maintained as you would expect. The pool service was excellent.
Prices were reasonable. As for the food, it was just fine. Remember,
you are at a resort, not Charlie Trotters. If you are so into food then
maybe this isn't the right place for you but we were happy with both
quality and service. Avoid the Italian restaurant across the street.
Food, service and wine list is a total joke!
Locals Love This Hotel Too!!
We live on kauai, and stayed at the Kauai Marriott this weekend for a little getaway. We had the BEST time!! The pool is fabulous, the room was too. Room service messed up our order terribly though. We ate at the Sunday Brunch Buffet at Kukui's (on property) and loved it. We go to brunch there every couple months or so (a favorite of ours). The beach outside is so beautiful, and the water is shallow and swimmable.
This is definitely one of the most fun and relaxing hotels on the island of Kauai.
What a wonderful resort! The rooms were nice, the view was breathtaking (we were on the top floor in the center overlooking the beautiful pool and ocean). The food was delicious too. And the grounds are simply awesome. So many beautiful plants, pools and waterfalls. The only drawback to the property is that lots of wild chickens roam the property and they don't know when to shut up! In fact, these wild chickens roam wild on the entire island! The airport is nearby, but the noise didn't bother me. It's not a busy airport, like Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport. I'd go back in a heartbeat, but save up lots of money because it isn't cheap.
Loved this Hotel
My wife & I was married on the Islaand of Kawaii last year and spent 10 wonderfull days at the Marriott Hotel in Lihue. The room had a beautiful ocean view and the food & service was just great. But the best thing I can say is the pool area is something every one visiting Kauai should go by and see. The outdoor cafe faces the pool and you can enjoy breakfast in a setting that is to die for.We enjoyed the hospitality of all the personnel at the Marriott that we have not stopped talking about it since we returned. The evenings are so majestic at the Marriott you never want to leave this place. We intend to stay there every time we come to Kauai. Expect to be treated like a King & Queen when you stay there.Yes, it's a little costly and the food is expensive but remember you get what you pay for and the Marriott Kauai is worth every penny.Go and check this place out.Ron & Deborah Saia
Too Short of a Stay
We stayed only 2 nights at the Marriott in Lihue in March 2003 and wished we could stay longer. The setting is beautiful - gorgeous beach, amazing pool, lovely grounds, wonderful staff. Our room was pretty standard but the balcony overlooking the wonderful pool and beach was a plus. The only slight drawback of staying in Lihue is if you're after seeing the sun set on the water, you won't be able to do it from this hotel as the mountains/cliffs that make this a beautiful and calm bay beach block your chance of seeing the "GREEN FLASH". A minor drawback since this is truly a stunning hotel! We'll come back as soon as we can!!
Marriots Hotel at Lihue, Kauai
Just returned from Honeymooning at Kauai. Stayed at the Marriot's at Lihue. Big mistake!!
The hotel staff is nice and the service is OK overall. However, the room and the facilities are not very clean. The beach is average but there is a view of the nearby pier from our room; you can actually see container ships unloading - not a very pretty sight. No snorkeling at that beach.
Also, do not eat at any of the restaurants of the hotel. The quality of the food is poor and is not worth the money. Local fast food is better.
Lastly, we were not offerred any room upgrade even though we were honeymooning. That could be because the hotel was close to full capacity, however.
Would strongly suggest staying at another property next time in Kauai.
