Amalia's baby daughter - Seraphima - spending the most of the time with a babysitter. <br>We talked about the basics of Hinduism &amp; Buddhism, they have some professional skillfulness to talk about these themes, it looks like a "pochem opium dla naroda" a little. Manali is a hot spot for the outdoor types and luckily we were willing and able to accept anything the place had to offer! we were stayin a little bit away from the main street "mall street" but a tuc tuc was only about a euro to get us to the hot spot of the town! ... helped us recuperate more than anything else. And I was fresh enough to go back to Bangalore - with a truck load of memories. We boarded the volvo for Delhi and were in Delhi by 6 in the morning. Delhi - I have always hated Delhi's crowd. But I have always loved what Delhi has to offer in terms of historical heritage. Even there bunglows currently resided in by MPs have a piece of history attached to them. Delhi has something in its air which makes me feel ...

Hiking to the 'Triund'

We got up nice and early and met with our guide 'Babu Ram'. We began our long and arduous hike. Annina had not been feelinfg very well the night before and so the first little part of the hike was quite torturous. Babu was nice and took her backpack for her. I was in the lead for pretty much the entire hike. I earned comments like "You're so hard core' and 'You ARE a mountain goat'. All I knew was that I was 'in the zone' and I was ...

... and Nangal was a very small city. Jan 3rd : Reached Old Delhi and found ourselves hobbling on cycle rickshaws to find an accommodation early in the morning. Once done, we visited the landmarks of Delhi i.e India gate, Rajpath, rashtrapathi Bhavan, parliament, Vijay Chowk and Humayun's tomb in the first half of the day as the 2nd half was allocated for shopping. All of us shopped as much as we could carry and then boarded our train back to Bangalore.

... tax extensions - yuck), and plan out the rush of countries coming at us on the horizon for which we didn't have a solid plan for. Manali was an excellent base for us to get caught up with ourselves while enjoying as much of the creature comforts as one can hope to find in this part of the world. So why have they chosen Manali? We didn't ask so one can't be sure. It could be because of some chackra vortex, or some astrological alignment, or some sort of energy ...

Update from Himachal

Well, this excursion to the mountain has turned into a mission to get Rocinante back on the road again and in shape to travel. Karma has virtually rebuilt the whole engine and she's running strong, as a bullet should. I've taken a few day rides up the mountain roads, but most days have been spent getting little details on the bike worked out, the luggage rack needed an overhaul, the seat recovered, small electrical glitches need working out ...

Manali - Old road, New Tunnel, Planning

... We were indeed very lucky for the gates of Dam had just been opened and it was such a sight to see water gushing out from two open gates. It was a good omen for last leg of our Delhi - Manali journey. Although I was an old timer on this road(Been here three times), I was surprised by a huge tunnel that waded through a huge mountain. Just near to Pandoh, a feet of engineering , this tunnel has decreased distances by the tune of almost 20kms. We just kept ...

Trekkie the dog and the Himalayas

... d never really done this before (not for 6 hours anyway) so overall it was a massive challenge, physically and mentally. I was elated to reach the camp at the 'top'. I put that in inverted commas because it was low-elevation trekking so it wasn't actually a mountain top, but it was a plateau on the mountain where we were camping. One thing which helped immensely was the coolest dog in the world, Trekkie! I named him and was very chuffed the name stuck, although it was pointed ...

... desert and every so often a giant storm of dust would pour into the train, covering everything in a light layer of sand, including you, fast asleep, mouth wide open and feeling like it's been sitting at the bottom of a bird cage for the night. Turning over, or standing up means that a small avelanche of dust trickles onto the person below, issuing a groan and the sound of sweeping as they try and remove the desert that has just appeared on their mattress. Once we ...
