Historical Traveler Reviews Duangjitt Resort & Spa Patong
Great resort with a little room for improvement
The hotel grounds are beautiful, a real paradise to escape to when you've had to endure Patong.
The pools are HUGE and again, beautiful.
The deluxe rooms are fantastic, well worth the extra moola.
Only a two minute walk to Patong - I personally hate Patong but I'm sure people that are looking at this hotel like the place so for the hotel its proximity is a good thing.
The staff do need a kick up the backside sometimes and service could be better / quicker.
Hotel guests moaning about the language skills of some of the staff, I bet they speak far better English than you speak Thai.
Overall I think this hotel really does deserve to be in the top ten of Phuket hotels, for instance we looked at the Holiday Inn Patong, rated number one, and the Duangjitt not only had a better location but was far more beautiful. That said we stayed at Le Meridien Patong and that was better, however staying there will require you paying an extra £80 a night ...and that is as good as it gets on Phuket. So in conlusion if you want a good 4* hotel in Phuket at a very reasonable price then you wont go wrong with the Duangjitt.
Beautiful setting, clean rooms, recommended
We arrived in the evening and were nicely welcomed. A welcome drink, fast check in, a little nice chit-chat and the luggage carried to our room was a good start to our two weeks.
The reception staff were friendly and tried to help out as much as possible, although their english could be improved...
The room was cleaned every day, totally spotless. Best cleaned hotel I've ever stayed at. When we wanted extra towels to bring to the pool we just "asked" (they didn't speak english) the cleaning staff and immediately we got them. They were always friendly and greeted every day, not always so common at other hotels.
The environment was really beautiful. It was like being in paradise, with all the palm trees, perfectly cut meadows, a pond, orchids and the hills in the background. Couldn't be much better.
Breakfast was fine, but eventually you got really tired of it (bread, ham, egg, bacon, some kind of rice, and fresh fruit).
The location was great for us, about 400 meters (1200 feet) from the main street with stores, restaurants, street shops and the beach. Our favorite restaurant was at a 15 minute walking distance, but after a long day in the heat we sometimes took a tuk tuk, 100 baht within Patong (standard price in 2004). The short distance (compared to the rest of the hotels with no distance to the main street) was perfect to shut noise out.
The pool is the largest I've ever seen. With that size it never got crowded. And if you wanted to be completely alone at a pool you had two others to chose from. All very clean, of course.
The restaurant was the only downside with this hotel. It took a long time to get the food and to pay was almost impossible (maybe this is a good thing?). The food itself was nice, some of it at least. Noodles absolutely not recommended, chicken in red curry strongly recommended (hot, hot, hot).
Room service was cheap and fast (we ordered a pine apple with ice cream in it, so we're happy they hurried...).
Internet was available for a fee in a small hotel store. Slow internet back then, and also expensive. Better places available at the main road, where phone boots were available much cheaper than the hotel phone.
I will probably stay at this hotel next time I go to Patong, mainly because it was so calm. Otherwise I guess severeal other hotels can offer the same thing, but the calm I really valued, together with the environment.
Two of us had just left the Hyatt hotel at Hua HIn where we had the most woderful experience to meet up with friends staying here. They had negotiated a rate with a member of the family that owned the hotel. W e were told we were given a special rate and a complimentary upgrade. We were shown to our room and checked in. The air conditioning was stuck on 27 degrees and couldn't be moved. Three phone calls later some body came up and said it was a compressor problem and couldn't be fixed until the next morning. I asked to be relocated to another room overnight and suddenly somebody appeared and fixed the problem. T he temperature settled at 19 degrees and stayed there. we tried t adjust it but to no avail. We rang reception again to request blankets. Another 3 phone calls before any action was taken. We then accessed the in room safe only to find it wasn't fixed to anything so considered it pointless to put anything in it.
The staffs english was very poor and couldn't understand even the most basic english. Whenever I was in reception there were confrontations with the reception staff. We had 3 people in our room and needed one room key to be in the air-conditioning slot at the front door as they were coded. When we asked for another 2 cards to be printed outit took them 30 minues to sort that out.
I could go on even fyrther but I would be writing all night. When we finally booked out I asked to see the person in charge. After waiting another 15 minutes I was then told that no-one was available because they we all in a meeting.
It is such a shame that this experience has left such a bad taste in our mouths as the resort itself is in such a great location. Needless to say I couldn't recommend this hotel at all. In fact I would go as far as stating it is the worst experience I have had in any hotel anywhere in the world.
Paradise close to the action
Amazing tropical paradise so close to Patong town centre, 4 minutes walk to the street bars. The rooms and balcony are private but all look out onto the tropical gardens and pool area. you can sit on the balcony at night, room lights off, bottle of wine and naked, totaly private. If a thunder storm happens buy it,s a show on it,s own. fab pool. great brecki and friendly staff. Breakfast is complimentry, lunch and dinner in Patong. i am fussy, this place is great.
We stayed at the hotel for 1 week from 27nd December till 3rd January 2007 - for new Year 2007.
First thing to say is that the place is great! We really liked it a lot. It is like paradise really - so huge and green and exotic. The gardens are so big and the place is so quiet, that you can not know you are in the biggest resort on Phuket - Patong beach. It is only 5 minutes walk to the main resort alley and the Patong beach itself.
The swimming pools are amazing - so big, so well organized - with quiet places, pool bars and never overcrowded. The Thai massage in the hotel was also great - and very cheap 250 bats (7$) for 1 hour.
The food was excellent - always enough and various. Lobby is also very nice. Service - very good.
The only problem is that though all Thai people claim to speak english - it is very hard to understand with them. You just say or ask something and in most cases they nod with their heads and either do something entirely different or do nothing at all. You have to make sure you told them very clear what you want and then ask for confirmation so they say what they understood. Otherwise it rarely works. And try to make your request in max 1 or 2 words - no grammatik - this is the best way to be understood.
Only some people at the reception and the room service they spoke english well enough.
Anyway - the hotel is very clean - nothing to say about that.
We stayed in a bungalow and I think it is better than the rooms, because it is more quiet and with all the palm trees around it it is very exotic.
The room service is not very expensive - like an ordinary restaurant in the resort.
The New Year preparation - it was great. There was so many food and specialties - it could not be eaten. The alkohol was not included, but the whole evening was very well organized - with the program and music. It was organized on a lawn near the big pool and it was very exciting celebrating New Year outside near a pool :).
That is all I can say - it was really the best choice hotel for the money and location! I highly recommend it to all!
Hope you like the photos I apply.
Zona piscine splendida e personale molto amichevole
Calm in Patong
We stayed at Duangjitt Resort for two weeks between 4-19 November. Great view of the enormous pool area and a nice hideout from Patong's sometimes heavy and noisy environment. It's about 15 minutes from the surreal Bangla Road but that's just a positive thing because it is just too much to spend every day of your vacation around Bangla road district. The breakfast was nice but nothing extrodinaire. Patong is a nice resort for those who like shopping, nightclubs, jetskis and a generally busy environment.
Beware of the taylorshop "Style In" located at the resort. They didn't make a suit completly to my satisfaction and had poor service even if manager Arun was very polite and sympathetic at first. I ordered another suit at a shop called Majestic that was perfect. Majestic is located 200 meters to the left of the exit of Duangjitt Resort.
Wonderful pool areas and very friendly staff
I stayed for one week at Duangjitt and I was very satisfied. I stayed in a room in one of the main buildings. The room was very clean and the staff was very friendly. On the arrival day I did get a basket full with different tropical fruits. That was very nice!
The breakfast buffet had a lot of dishes including sweet things like cinnamon rolls, cakes etc. I have traveled a lot, but I have never seen such enormous pool areas before. Three huge pools surrounded by a very big garden with coconut palms and other tropical trees.
The only complaine was the lightening in the room, they used low energy lights that gave a cold and not sufficient light. I was also missing coffe and tea making facilities.
Over all I can really recommend this hotel.

Today was our lazy day. We started with an amazing breakfast at the resort then a swim in the pool. After this we headed down to the markets for some more shopping. The markets are only a short walk from our resort but our resort is away from all the hustle and bustle of the night life. After a bit of shopping we had a wonderful one hour leg and …
... my dad I was still alive despite doing this by myself now! Our bus arrived and it was just that a bus, not a coach but a typical everyday thai bus. We loaded our bags and got on. Matty is one of those people who if he can't sleep then no one else can so it was a case of wake up and stare out of the window. Thai driving is ...

Flew from Tawau to KL to Phuket. Arrived in Phuket and took a cab to Patong area. As we were driving down we realized that it was just a whole bunch of hotels/hostels and bars everywhere you looked. After a 7 hour flight to Abu Dhabi followed by a 5 hour flight to Phuket all we wanted was to jump into a taxi and go to our beds... however we soon learned in Thailand nothing is that simple, travelling 5 minutes down the road can be the most complicated thing to organise ever.
When we got off the plane it was a huge relief to see our backpacks; the dodgy change over in Abu Dhabi meant we ...
