This weekend was remarkable. I actually got to spend a lot of time with my friends this weekend, hang out, and just chill. Starting with Friday night, me and Fay found ourselves at the MN State Fair, which is a BIG DEAL in Minnesota. We ate everything under the sun, (Which I later regretted) and finally got to the Midway around 9PM. It was great …
Left home a little after 11am courtesy of a so called "limo service".... AKA a Buick, that because it's black, some how resembles a limo. Although, semantics aside, for a being a limo service the baggage handling left a little something to be desired, but the price was right. Thanks Rick and ...
... reason the area became popular to begin with was the 'Dells" a carved out area made through the years by the Wisconsin River. Took the 2 hour boat trip and it was really great! Saw the Standing Rock where the photographer Bennet had his 17 year old son jump from one rock to the other to capture it in mid air. Also got off the boat at Witch's ...
... before he got the picture he wanted. This was one of the first times that an action picture was taken and made Bennett and this area famous. While our tour was there, they had a young man duplicate the jump - he made it just fine but I wouldn't want to do it! (See video of jump in Album below). Notice the vegetation in both pictures and see how it has grown up over the years. In 1865, you could see the river from ...
... went out to eat at a great Italian restaurant...later on after dinner, we finished the evening at his trailer at Circus World watching random DVDs of clown gags that he owns. Definitely one of those evenings you wish would never end...socializing, relaxing, and laughing with friends while on the road is such a pick-me-up. Thank you!

Historical Traveler Reviews Kalahari Waterpark Resort Convention Center Wisconsin Dells
A wonderful retreat
I spent hours researching water parks in Wisconsin Dells for a short spring getaway and I was pleased with our choice of the Kalahari. The rooms were over-sized, clean and and wonderful for our family of 5. The water park was great for families of all ages but our boys ages 11 and 14 really enjoyed it! As parents we just hopped on a tube and floated around the park and usually could spot our kids. I perhaps was most impressed with the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. It appeared that this place really knows how to train it's staff to meet the needs of it's clientelle. Although a little pricey this place was definitely worth it. I wish we had stayed longer! Another must do in Wisconsin dells is the Magic Show. The best we have seen !
We stayed at the Kalahari Sun - Tues (May 18 - 20). Check-in was fast and efficient. Our room was clean and conveniently located to the waterpark. The waterpark far exceeded our expectations. The waterpark as well as the locker rooms were clean and well maintained. With the new addition, there was always something for my three boys (ages 7, 6, 18 months) to do. The longest line we waited in was about 8 minutes for the Bonzai Blast. I would highly recommend the Kalahari for all age groups. One note to people with toddlers: the large cribs are metal and creak at the joints, thus keeping my toddler (and me) up most of the first night. Housekeeping was very accomodating and brought up a porta-crib (made of wood). I would recommend requesting the porta-crib or bring your own pack-n-play.
Good and Bad!
The Kalahari is a tropical resort in the middle of Wisconsin! I was very excited to stay there, but my excitement quickly faded when I checked in. I had problems with my room key and my room was located at the opposite end of the hotel - this was a LONG walk! I waited for maintenance in the hallway, outside of my door for 30 minutes until they finally arrived and sent me back down to the front desk for the 3rd time for a new key. I was NOT impressed with the staff. The waterpark is amazing though and so is the resort-like atmosphere.
My best friend and I stayed there 2 times once in may 2002 and just last week april 2003. The room had beer cans on the belcony. We stay during the week were there was not enough employees to run all the waterslides and when we brought it up to management. They said the life guards were lying (7 employees lie!) They were all grump. My complaint fell on deaf ears in may 2002. The last day we ate at buffet breakfast and the server never came to the table we asked her for coffee, jelly she never brought to us. We then complained that we could not get syrup from caddy because it was stuck(nasty) she finally after 15 min came back with coffee and syrup and slammed in down on table. Well I had it. I asked for hotel manager and he was a rude as could be and didn't believe a word we said we asked him to ask Rest. Manager and he did 30 minute later he said he would take it off bill. We get in line to check out, it took another 45 minutes(he didnt take it off). While I was standing there for so long 2 people said there was room charges on there bill that they never had. It took the front a long time to prove the charge were from different rooms all together. The Hotel is awsome and fun but management will not change because they dont care. It offers so much. they are booked often. Management thinks you dont like than do come some one else will!
Not That Great..
We've stayed just about everywhere, And are most dissappointed with the Kalahari Resort. Nobody said Hi, or goodmorning, something that was taken for granted when we stayed at the Great Wolf Lodge. We would have appreciated friendlier service, but everyone just seemed to be angry. The waterpark was overcrowded, and the food in the resturant was horrible. We will not go back. Great Wolf, Here we come!
We stayed at Chula Vista, which was very crowed because of spring break, but appropriate for my 4 year old, We visited Kalahari on Friday, and my 8 and 11 year old and myself loved it!! There was also plenty for my 4 year old in the treehouse. The line was long at the entrance for outsidre guests at 10am when it opens, but worth the wait, we had pizza slices and it was a good value for the portion. My 11 year old daughter loved telling her story of going down the "flush". The hotel does need to enforce the no glass rule as we had to get out of the lazy river because of an accident of broken glass into the river from the oasis above it. We also visited the wilcox theather "magic show" and all I can say is WOW! You gotta go! The dells should consider having more "shows" to attend like the magic show to give families more to do than indoor waterparks during times like spring break.
You have got to go here
this hotel and water parks is just in one word GRAND. form the rooms to the service and the waterpark and games this is at the top of my list when visiting the dells.
Are family loves the african theme. The hotel is huge and very clean. The lazy river and water slides make you want to stay all summer! The prices aren't bad either. The Kalahari is also great for having parties at! If you have a large family the Kalahari is great for you!
Best Hotel in the Dells
The Kalahari is THE best place in the Dells. I have stayed at just about every waterpark/hotel and this one is by far the best. Unique gift shops, food shops and wonderful restaurant upon many other things there. No need to leave the hotel if you go here!!
