Typhoon Yolanda eye of the storm

From there we went to Tacloban which had the greatest amount of damage and deaths. The pictures here tell the story and this is 1 1/2 years after the event. Another "divine appointment" with a pastor lady going into one of the slum areas on the waterfront on our Sunday morning prayer walk in the communities. This lady would be a great trainer as some others we have met here. Plenty of work and opportunity here that HCDI will follow up ...

      Leaving cairns for the Philippines

A travel blog entry by mille-maja on Mar 01, 2015

Traveling to the Philippines I knew it was gonna be a long trip. I booked the cheapest possible way - because the experience itself would be an adventure. Leaving Cairns the 1st of March and arriving at night on Malapascua the 3rd. So I left cairns and began my journey. First a 2 hour flight to Darwin. All went well. Then I had to spend 9 hours in Darwin Airport. It was during nighttime and I spent it on the floor of the waiting room. An Australian girl and I got to ...

Not where I really want to be but I didn't what to get shut out of a room for a second night. Its not that Calbayog is bad or anything but its not the beach scene I'm looking for. So I get a room for one night and will be heading off in the morning. The town looks nice with of course lots of fast food places and shops. It does have a ocean walk that is being built and maybe someday worth more then just a ...

... we took at after a little haggling and decided that the following day we would just move on up the coast to Catbalogan and not bother with the islands... So we were up early and waiting outside the resort for a van or bus to pass which would take us back to Tacloban and then we could get a bus or van on to Catbalogan. Nothing came past. We waited for an hour before deciding to walk, with full packs once again, ...

      Catbalogan

A travel blog entry by frawldog on Nov 07, 2011

... city of Catbalogan. Catbalogan was 2 hours past Calbayog. The lonely planet book says the roads between the two cities are hell, but they must have been updated because they were not so bad. The vans ran quite smooth and were a lot better than buses. The cities and villages we passed today are still ****** and old, but the island itself is better than where we were previously in South East Luzon. It's a bit more tropical. More palms trees. The weather is getting ...
