Samoan bus system (and hierarchy)

... not strictly. I've been on buses with people standing in the aisles, sometimes even sitting in the aisles. Thus,...LAPS! It's all about sitting on the laps. Samoans clearly do not share our American taboo of personal space. Usually they try to work it out so that the lighter person is sitting on the lap of a bigger person. It gets even more fun when someone needs to get off and the entire bus needs to arrange and re-arrange itself so the person can get ...

Pequeñas islas en la Polynesia

... and seeing everyone with sarong (including police), has impressed us greatly. We were the only aircraft of the day and opened the airport for our reception. We were also surprised lifestyle on the island, the large number of plantations of coconuts, papayas, pineapples and Fruit Bread, a typical fruit which is roasted and eaten as bread. In short, a very beautiful island, where people are very friendly and open, its spectacular beaches and volcanic interior very nice.

Deep Fried Paradise: Savai'i Island

... grandeur instead of this pathetic Grinch-like shrunken mess it's become. These threatening tears aren't for sorrow, but for beauty, this is truly an inspirational sight. All the cliches are true: it is taking my breath away. On the bus ride to Tanu Beach Fales, there was a Samoan man sitting in front of me with a 'Canadian Rockies' t-shirt full of holes. I had to laugh - home is always reminding me that it's thinking of me. Even on the edge of the world ...

Canoe rides and netfishing

... fish and had them for dinner - the traditional way of killing the fish is to bite it in the head, and that's how it was done... We decided not to help with that part! The dinner was delicious, as you would expect. Sung and Otilia had offered to take us the airport on the other side of the island meaning we could enjoy our last evening in Samoa to the max before taking the plane back to New Zealand at 2 am, it's not often that you are fishing just ...

Castaway, no food no fale no fun

Last people on earth to see the sunset

... hopped on Sebastian's lap and Jo sat on Jules's lap. Probably highly inapprobiate as any hugging and kissing, holding hands etc is a taboo in Samoa but what can you do... In Apia, we said goodbye to Jasmine and Sebastian and ran out of luck with buses. We ended up waiting 2 hours for the bus to the ferry, only to miss the ferry by 10 minutes. So that was another 2 hours of waiting. But as said, Samoa is not a bad place to wait! Jo entertained Samoan kids with a ...

Easter Break in Savaii

... that we were going to have to wait for almost three hours for the next ferry. It turned out that one departure was missing on the timetable and that we actually were on time fore the 12 o'clock ferry, we even had time to buy some improvised lunch from one of the shops by the wharf. The ferry took almost two hours to cross and when we finally made it to Salelologa we hopped on a bus bound for Sasina and hoped that we would get of at the ...

Siin olime kavalamad ja leppisime ööbimiskoha kokku juba saare ringreisi alates, et oleks pimeda peale jäädes kindel sihtpunkt silme ees. Käisime vaatamas ilusat juga, mille all olevas basseinis sai ujuda. Mehed tegid vettehüppeid ja olime peale õues valitsevat parajat leitsakut selle ...

Obviously some moral there, but I'll leave it to you to decided exactly what is it though. End of the World - The Western Most Point - After the house of rock we drove a little further along the coast to the western most point of Samoa, which is the closest western point in the world to the date line, apparently. Everyone loves a ...
