Historical Traveler Reviews of Island Palm Resort Freeport

Great Value for dollar

from Croozer
I've been all over the caribbean, Vegas, stayed at 5 star hotels and believe me, the Island Palm puts most hotels in Daytona Beach, FL to shame at half the cost. I got my package through my employer at wholesale rate and for the money you can't go wrong. Location isn't the best but they make up for it with daily shuttle to the awesome Island Seas Resort. Older property that is well maintained and absolutely meticulous. Pool is clean. Timeshare people were pushy, so what else is new? I have yet to find a destination lacking in pushy timeshare people! Just Say No! Or listen and check it out! Overall, the people are fabulous. If you're a snob or ugly american, stay home or go to Daytona Beach, the World's Most Famous Rip-Off.

Good Time overall

The overall experience was good. However there were a few blips. The descriptionsaid that each room included a safe. NO Safe! The women selling the time shares were VERY RUDE! However the actual hotel staff was very nice and helpful. Take quarters for telephone calls to the US, they never seemed to have any.

What a Great Time We Had!!!

To Anyone thinking of visiting the Island Palm Resort......We stayed at the Island Palm Resort in February, 2003 & we loved it! The friendly staff, the clean rooms, the great pool to relax by, the food and near-by shopping made our visit very memorable, enough so that our son & daughter-in-law and myself & husband are going back to the resort next February and hopefully renew our wedding vows there! We highly recommend it!Pat B

OK hotel

from travelravel
This hotel was basically clean and the front desk staff was nice. The pool was suprising clean for a small hotel. There were a couple of problems - a broken ice machine, broken lounge chairs for the beach, a slightly clogged sink and some ants in the room. We stayed through a Discovery Cruise package. I'd book any shore excursions through the cruiseline or directly in Port Lucaya instead of through the woman at the tour desk there - she just wanted us to go to the "free" breakfast (read - time share presentation) and it was almost like pulling teeth to get her to book us on one simple booze cruise.

Basic Living

from A TripAdvisor Member
Your basic hotel, nothing special. There were a few minor problems though: no iron or ironing board, didn't clean receive towels on the second day of my visit, no hairdryer, and never got extra pillows I asked for on my first night. Overall the expirence was good. The front desk staff wasn't the most organized or friendliest people I've dealt with, but going during Spring Break (and not being a Spring Breaker) wasn't a great idea and may have added to my problems. The activities coordinator was great, she booked many trips for me, but look around. You can find the same trip cheaper in town. This way your not paying her commission. The beach was awesome, but be sure to catch the last shuttle bus back to the hotel or be prepared to pay the outrageous taxi fares. Never got heckeled by the ladies trying to get you to buy into time share, but they are definetly there.

Very Nice

Very nice resort. Was in a good location. The rooms were surprisingly big. Very friendly staff and the pool was nice. I'd stay here again.

Cheap, fun, basic

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at 3 different hotels during a 9 day stay in the bahamas. Island Palm Resort was my first location.

The rooms were basic like a Motel 6. Supplied with bed, towels, TV, AC, phone and soap. No clock, radio, coffee maker or hair dryer.

The pool is nice. At night many people gathered around the poolside bar and listened to the DJ music. There is also a club/dance place on the property. It was fun.

I didn't eat on-site after hearing so-so reviews by other travellers who had eaten there. There are several fast food restaurants, grocery and liquor stores within walking distance.

It is walkable to Intl. Marketplace (approx 1 mile or so).

Free Beach shuttle. Other attractions require a cab which can be expensive.

For the money, this place is adequate for low budget travel, and it ranked high on the fun/social level.

For me, there was not high tourist value near here. I recommend staying at Pt Lucaya Resort and Yacht Club if you want nice accomodations in a nice setting. There are many tourist in the Pt Lucaya area, and the beach at Our Lucaya (across the st) is great, and you can walk around Pt Lucaya Marketplace for food and souvenirs.

I would not recommend walking around Island Palm Resort neighborhood at night, and keep aware even during the day.

I did not have any problem with timeshare/activity booking requests -- I simply said NO.

Not bad if you'll be at the beach most of the time

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Island Palm. Yes, there is a table where Bahamian ladies do their best to lure you into time share interviews and also purchasing tickets for other activities such as boat tours. Just ignore them. The accomodations are simple, but are well suited for the vacationer or business traveler -- that is, a person who will not be staying in the room for many hours a day. We had a wonderful stay.

Watch Out For the CMG Time Share Scam and Hidden Costs

from A TripAdvisor Member
The brochure does not show the counter in the corner where one or two ladies are stationed throughout the day to bribe you into participating in a time share presentation. This hotel seemed to be strictly for the purpose of getting people to participate in their time share presentation. Once we declined the time share offer, the friendly attitudes changed to cold indifference. Our phone rang several times in the early morning hours 2-4am and late in the evening after we had gone to sleep. No one was ever on the line. After the third day, we unplugged the phone. If you have purchased a package, read the fine print and try to get a refund before it's too late. $15 per night per person room tax. Two people for five nights $150.
