Papetoai, PO Box 1019 Moorea, Society Islands, French Polynesia, 551919

We have just spent the last 9 days in Moorea, an island 9 km's off the Tahiti coast. We flew from Los Angeles and landed in Papeete at 2 in the morning. Papeete is the capital of Tahiti and is very busy, built up and not what you would call paradise. We waited at the airport 3 1/2 hours for daybreak and caught the local bus to the ferry port. Well I say the bus, they are actually called 'Le Truck' and are converted flat bed lorries painted in local style. Did I mention how expensive French Po...
Moorea, French Polynesia chris_and_kellyThere is a small place at the center of the hauru point shopping center which hires out scooters in decent shape for about 5500 CFP (~55$ U.S.). If you rent one at noon you can spend the afternoon and next morning riding around the island at about 50 kmh (traffic moves faster, so glance at the rear view mirror and stay to the side, if possible), stopping along the way or just cruising. I hooked up with the Kiwi girls(Natasha, and Jo), and we made our way along a route mapped out by the friend...

... br>
Moorea, Society Islands, French Polynesia flitterjahr... earth I'm doing here "out of season" and probably more astutely - "alone".

Half hour later as I'm dropped off at the swish resort I've treated myself to - the Intercontinental no less - I realise why being a single traveller is something which will make me stand out. The place is full of couples, families, honey mooners etc. Basically there is one expression written over the face of every single traveller on Mo'orea - "stood up at the altar". I saw ...
Moorea, Society Islands, French Polynesia codownsean... were heading too and how we would be entering and exiting the water. We were all relieved to see our tanks and equipment already set up for us which meant we didn't have to try and remember how it all went together. We were not so impressed that there was no where to jump off the boat which meant we were going to have to go in backwards off the edge, this we had not done before. After our briefing we lined up on the side of the boat all kitted up, and over we went. The ...
Moorea, Society Islands, French Polynesia dlz... enjoyed walking its colourful streets, visiting the port and admiring the nature. We then moved to Bora Bora, a postcard dream. We we flying and as the plane was approaching the island we had a beautiful view over the lagoon and the island with its clean blue water and the coral reef. A tiny island next to the reef was used as the airport, an ex US military air base from the second war world, it was like in a fairy tale....the white sand, the green palms and the clean-clear water. A ...
Papeete, Society Islands, French Polynesia xandbrtw... English and even less of the local languages. We chatted for hours and then set off to catch the ferry heading to the nearby island of Moorea. Moorea is a small island with many beautiful sites whereas Tahiti is quite large and expensive and time-consuming to travel around. We arrived to Moorea with the sun shining overhead. We picked up a few snacks and rented a scooter feeling like old-hands at this by now ;) We tore off to loop the island but no ...
Papeete, Society Islands, French Polynesia nikolassarah... transfer to the course, I was looking forward to a nice morning of golf and then meeting Helen in the afternoon to go on a boat trip to a lagoon. Only problem was that when I arrived at the course they told me I couldn't tee off until midday due to the rain the previous night (it was 9 am) and my hotel hadn't rung to confirm this. Heading back a little dejected but $300 better off I decided to book the boat trip to the lagoon where you could swim with black tip sharks and ...
Moorea, French Polynesia shieldsontour... a eye blink I have taken them all. If you ever visit French Polynesia I would recommend going to Bora Bora or Ua Huka islands for beauty and Ragaorita for scuba diving. I would not stay on the main island as it does not have much to offer and the islands are idealic. Every french person from the island would never move back to France. They are all French but wish to stay on the tropical paradise island. Even the french born people from island do not want to visit France!
Tahiti, French Polynesia callahan... time cruisers and most of the passengers who are not from Australia, are continuing on for 1-3 mos. more. We were surprised to hear that many of the 200+ Australians onboard flew to Los Angeles merely to take the cruise back to Sydney. We have not met any who traveled in America before the cruise. As you can imagine, much of the conversation revolves around cruising and travel. We are ...
