Bertchesgaden- Yosemite meets Leaderhosen

We are here at the Bertchesgaden Resort in the Bavarian Mountains along the German-Austrian border. The landscape is beautiful. The resort we are in is extremely fancy and, admittedly, a bit out of our league. They didn´t appreciate my cannonball into the heated indoor pool or the fact that we bought groceries and skipped the expensive food and …

Also within the church grounds are the Catacombs carved into the rock wall .. said to be from early Christian days (c.a. 482..) , they have two internal chapels high in the wall reached by narrow steep steps.. apart from the religious importance the view from within is another bonus.

Back on the train for a 2:45 hour trip to Salzburg..approx 290 kms south/ west of Vienna..thank heavens for the heated compartments again as the temp dropped to minus seven! Once again as day dawned the snow showed it's thickness.. and did not let up in Salzburg all day. The usual wander/ amble to the chosen accommodation was replaced by taxi....
Heavy snow falls had everything encased , the snowflake design was ...

... When we came out of the café, it had cleared up partially and the sun was shining. It was ideal as we finished the last part of our walking tour which took us past yet some more great viewpoints over the town and the lake. We walked back to the parking lot soon after as it was nearing sunset and we still had about half an hour to drive to get to our campsite by Wolfgangsee. We arrived in camp in the dark but were able to find it without any issues and settled in for the night. ...

... Salzburg where a local, contemporary artists' work is featured every couple of months. We took our photos and then watched the other tourists going under the golden globe and pretending to lift it up. We also saw a horse bath off to the side of the square. The horse bath was a large sunken area in the square with a small railing around it and a sloped entrance so that the horses could walk into it (once upon a time) to be washed. We then headed down a ...

    Great Experience

    from Berlintraveller

I stayed in the hotel for 4 nights with a friend and we loved it. The room was lovely, inside the U-Shape but facing to the open end. Try not to get a room in the U that faces the other rooms. Setting and views are lovely. Hotel design very impressive, service great. Food and all extras rather expensive, but the whole place is not on the cheap side anyway. Quite an experience.

    Super

    from s665770

This hotel / resort is really super.

Location, staff, public spaces, rooms and spa, all are off verry high quality. As other writers already mentioned, the views are fantastic. We had a room on the thirth floor which had five windows so one had a fantastic view off the village of Berchtesgaden and Salzburg. The restaurant which served breakfast and dinner was fantastic and the food was of a verry high quality (breakfast and dinner).

    We will definitely go back.

    Wonderful Hotel

    from anonymous

We were fortunate enough to stay at this hotel for 4 days. The weather was spectacular and we couldn't have asked for better service. The room was lovely with beautiful views of the Alps. The breakfasts at the 360 Restaurant were spectacular. Staff was very helpful, courteous and friendly. We did not use the pool, but there is a lovely view of Eagle's Nest and the mountains while you relax in the waters. There are many attractions close by, but a car is really necessary. Would definitely go back again.

    Fantastic - cannot be faulted.

    from lovingmyholidays

Disregard the bad reviews on this site.A beautiful modern hotel with remarkable 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains. Everything is immaculate. Service and food impeccable; rooms large and well designed with fantastic bathrooms. Concierhe very helpful. Great price too - splash out the little extra for a Studio. Really, I can't rate this hotel highly enough. A car is, however, essential for reaching the hotel and getting the best out of the region. Only 40 mins from Salzbrug airport.

    Exemplary

    from M&NMB

Levels of service were exceptional, very polite and attentive throughout. English was spoken by all staff we met.

The room was superb and very well serviced (be prepared to have it made ready for bedtime at 5.30pm!). The view from the room was unparallelled in our opinion - this position of room was offered as an upgrade at extra cost - well worth it if cost isn't an issue.

Pianist and lounge bar food met our expectations. 360degree restaurant food well prepared and presented although no vegetarian option on the menu. Breakfasts here were the piece de resistance!

If you don't come by car, be prepared to use taxis into town/station (approx 10 mins and cost 11 Euros).

We are saving up for our next visit!!

    Fantastic Mountain Resort

    from anonymous

We really enjoyed staying at this resort. Design of the rooms ( as you can see on the pics) is modern and not the old bavarian style. Stayed in a Duplex Suite with loft style living area, spa like bathroom and bedroom with fantastic mountain views. Staff is trained very well, did not have any bad experience as described in other review. The food is definetly about average to superb ( especially breakfast at "360" is to die for...).

Well will come back as soon as possible. The setting is perfect with spectacular mountain views from all over the area. Spa facilities are large and beautiful especially the outdoor pool with magnificient mountain views.

Prices for food and beverage are standard for a 5 Star property.

Superb location but hotel is terrible

    from munichgermany

We went to the hotel after reading the reviews in Tripadvisor which rang positive. Unfortunately, the experience left a lot to be desired.

I hate to be a hotel snob but when you are paying north of Euro 200 a night for a so called five star hotel one expects a level of service and attention that was lacking in this hotel.

First, the location. Bechtesgaden is a wonderful location for the hotel. The setting is great, the scenery super and the hotel position ideal. Intercontinental got a great deal when they bought the hotel site.

The hotel. The hotel itself feels like an airport hotel whisked up to the alps. The hotel is designed in what they no doubt believe is "cool" if you like browns, teaks and brushed silver but the overall effect is that it looks like any other hotel in an airport. There are few connections to the area and the design therefore lets it down. Rooms are small and functional. If you do stay here make sure you get a room facing the outside because the inner rooms face other inner rooms (hotel is shaped like a U).

The car park. Just a point to be aware of. If you drive into the car park you are charged Euro 8 (there is no sign that tells you that this will cost you anything).

The service. Yes the service is terrible. Even allowing for the fact that this hotel is less than three months old the service is appalling. There were so many service failures that to list them all here would drag on for pages and pages. Key failures were: reservations mixed up our bookings despite these being confirmed by email, restaurant food was poor (in fact one of our dishes a monkfish was raw and despite our complaining we were not offered a discount!), the waiters treat you like fools, the room service is not attentive and don't service the rooms properly. And so on.

I usually do not bother complaining about poor service but in this case I feel it is warranted. I faxed and emailed the resident managers and hotel manager after my stay and did not hear back from them!

The summary therefore is the location is great but you would be well advised, in my opinion, to save yourself some expense and go to other fantastic Alpine spas and hotels rather than fork out for poor service and airport style interiors at this hotel.

    This hotel is incredible!!

    from anonymous

We stayed there just for a long weekend doing some sightseeing and relaxing.

The hotel staff is very nice and very very service orientated. Location is beautiful and the accomodation is awsome! We stayed there in the Koenigsee Suite and I am struggling to find any other suits to compare!

Beautiful But Still Finding Its Feet

    from davemclewis

Thought we would give this new hotel a try. My wife, daughter and I spent 4 nights here at the end of April. The hotel is beautiful and its surroundings can be breathtaking. The food is above average to good but the menu can lack variety (more important here as there are not many options outside of the hotel). Although we had a problem with our room that ultimately went unresolved, we nevertheless found the staff courteous and generally eager to please. The spa facility is excellent and the bar friendly, although the music is far too loud (difficult to carry on a conversation). All in all, a pleasureable experience and one that I would recommend to others. Given a few months to iron out the wrinkles, and I would expect the stay to be even better than my experience.

    Very Good

    from FirstClassTraveller

Thought we'd try this new hotel and we weren't disappointed. Stayed in the Presidential Suite on Priority Club points and this was superb - a massive room with three washrooms, a dining table for 10 and a conference room. Food was of a good standard and reasonably priced. Hotel is very modern and service friendly, would definitely return
