Chowara Beach Village, Chowara PO (Via) Balaramapuram Kovalam, Kerala, India
... puffer fish, tiger fish, butter fish and something they call muti-coloured fish. The combination of having a few drinks the night before (we are both serious light-weights), getting to bed late, rising early, rocking in a boat the size of Tom's leg and watching men smashing fish to oblivion against hard wood all took it's toll on me and I thought I was going to vom. Consequently, the expedition was cut short. After our luxurious stay at Leela's we ...

We've got the shoulder stand in the bag and we're nearly up in the headstand too so jolly well impressed with our progress so far. There was a little bit of stress on the body but we felt alive, strong, clear minded and healthy after the yoga.. The classes were sometimes fun too especially with the French clown Silver and German Sabine to play with. A great addition this will be to our ...

Varkala, Kerala, India inoursuitcase... m exactly where I'm meant to be. I will definitely be coming back here in the future. Also they do Teacher Training Courses here at the ashram (its a two week course). I'm amazed that on this trip the number of life options that I've become aware of is astounding. I could take the TTC come back to Toronto and open a yoga studio! I could open my own cafe. I could get my BCABA. I could get a Masters. It is very liberating in a way to realize you really can do anything you want to. Of ...
Trivandrum, Kerala, India maedchen... Big thanks to Emily for the tip!
Kovalam, Kerala, India aguas... the Scottish contingent. What's that expression about "the best laid plans"? Kettakkada certainly had decided to make them "gang a gley" today. There were a few open-topped trucks parked by the side of the road opposite the bus station and chaps loading tables onto them. Ah, we thought, spying the mountain of loudspeakers, a party. Then we spotted the crowd around the gates of the local hall - the gates have a large metal symbol of crossed spears over a targe fixed to them which ...
Neyyardam, India worldlywanderer... storage! :) - My parents, for looking after most of my few treasured possessions (despite the large bill for chocolate which that entails). And for reassuring me that I needn't be destitute when I get back to the UK. - Chris, for accepting the responsibility of looking after the car, and for giving me a lift to the airport. - Vikas, for getting married in Agra on April the 19th, and thus lighting the touchpaper for the whole trip! - Friends and family in ...
Kovalam, Kerala, India ianr... in a holy village that seems mostly unchanged throughout time. Of course the influx of foreigners brings lots of touristy shops and restaurants, but by and far, it was a great place to relax. We headed further inland to Hampi, the site of the Vishayanga Empire, and the ruins are over 1000 years old. There's no wonder why this place is on my top five of India list. The crumbling hills of rock are mesmerizing, and wandering around the ruins is ...
Southern India, India danaborne... much failed. One of the only places that you are able to successfully burn Cd's finally opened and I was able to get on the one computer with a burner, but somehow the battery of my camera is dead already (hopefully not forever) and so I am not able to accomplish really anything. I did manage to mostly pack and traded some books for new ones to read. Hopefully the train will not be running very late and the 52 hours remains 52 hours.
Varkala, India blissmiss... and we climbed the bell tower. There was no view and the dead pigeons were not much company, but we couldn't forget it for the next few days (because of the cramps in our legs LOL). Then it started raining again (it had been raining for a long time in Kerala) and we drank salted lime juice and marvelled at the different products on sale in a small shop. Indians have for example a real need for individual portions. Where we ...
