... after the fall we got stuck waiting for a road to re-open. They were trucking in gravel and dumping it in front of us in the road then spreading it with a backhoe - the road closed - and we just sat there for at least an hour - the first 15 minutes with the engine running, helmets on in the sun, thinking "OK how long is this guy going to hold us...?" We got back to paved road and then stopped for a lunch to make sure we had the patience for a ...
Boca Chica, Panama courtrand... of an impact on me! Anyway, terrified of being crawled on by this grotesque beast of an insect, I dove under my mosquito netting and slept with the light on - as he seemed to not like the light. As I was lying there (yes, who am I kidding - I didn't sleep a wink that night!), I was picturing this bug in my mind, and I realized that it was probably a cockroach. I had never seen one in real life before, but it seemed that that's what it was - which made me even ...
san pedro de macoris, Dominican Republic hmacleanA few days ago, I was able to pay my first visit to the nearby orphanage between Consuelo and San Pedro. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I what I discovered was more wonderful than I ever could have imagined. The orphanage is called "Nuestros Pequiños Hermanos," and is one of seven around the country. I guess you can consider it a sort of orphanage "chain," as they have founded orphanages in Mexico (where it originated), Bolivia, Haiti, Peru ...
San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic hmaclean... talk in awe of individuals who have drunk two and then disappeared, so of course Woodsie drinks 3. Not too surprisingly the next day a little the worse for wear we go to catch our internal flight to Panama City. The flight is delayed, however the lady that informs us of this cant tell us how delayed, or why it is delayed, all she knows is that it hasn't arrived yet. The plane is a little propeller thing, the flight is one ...
Boca Chica, Panama cat6698The second day I take a drive and chance upon a local game of baseball in some village. No one at the ball park speaks english and I had the double handicap of not speaking english and also I do not understand baseball (A capital crime in the DR). So I watch the game following little, but enjoying the atmosphere.
Boca Chica, Dominican Republic vagabond... man! We go back to the hotel and pack our last things into the bags. We check-out of the hotel and Juan comes with the car. We drive to the beach. We already know a hotel in San Pedro de Macorìs - there we have a reservation. But Juan tells, that we have also an other reservation. So we drive to the Oasis Hamin Hotel. It's very touristic I think... and HUGE! But we didn't have a reservation anymore. We don't know why.. but they can't find one of our name in ...
San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic aberweger... and it was a completely different experience because it was so packed with all the people from Semana Santa. And everybody knows when the ¨americanas¨ come in; I feel like we are a walking show for the people of this town! It´s definitely awkward for me to be a ¨site¨ for the people to see. The best thing was on the way back, we stopped at his friend´s farm, and we got to see all the incredible fruit that they grow here...oranges, mangos, bananas, guavas, tamarindos, and then the ...
Sabana de la Mar, Dominican Republic kelsianne82... announced two nights before Valentines that we're flying off to Santo Domingo next morning! I was flummoxed, floored, I can't find that adjective!! But she sweeped me off my feet. I don't remember exactly where she booked, but it was a good deal for a round trip. I think it was Cheapoair . That's the site she usually logs into whenever she books for holidays. Sort of a brand ...
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic studenttravel... any food at all or something. I guess now I get to see what it is like to live like a dominican and how tourists feel about the dominicans. Then, after they drive through the town they go to the beach. One time they were at the beach when I went and I was just about to walk over there to see where they are from, when the bus took off. It looks like they were all from Europe pretty much. Besides this, nothing new really is happening. The flu ...
Nagua, Dominican Republic serina300... gives a mountain of food and told me that she wants me to get fatter. Here they equate that with strength. So, whenever I do eat all of my food she makes a big deal of it and claps for me. She keeps track of how many I earn in a week and will tell the neighbors about it. I don't think I've earned more than 3 in any given week. The other night I was laying in bed with my host dad let out, what was possibly, the loudest **** I've ever ...
