Not so happy

the hotel was good but if your taking your daughter keep an eye on the fun team which are very randy ie scooby they need some bromide in there tea

Party goers!!!!

I thought the service and staff we great..especially, Danny Boy... he was so funny!!! I went with my boyfriend in August 2003.. now, we were told by our travel agent that there would be alot of nightlife and partying going on, boy was she wrong. This hotel is mainly for families and seniors .. We had an alright time after seeing the beautiful beach .. it could've been better if the staff recommended places to go..

My family!! Don't worry be happy!! (shaggy)

What a holiday!!! I cannot say a wrong word about any part of this place or the people that we met while we were there. We went on the 16th of september for two weeks and it was the best two weeks ever. The rooms were lovely, cleaned at least once a day by the maids who were lovely, very polite and it seemed like they were there all the time.

they worked very hard. The food was beautiful and the restaurant staff (Felito, Ramon, Daniel just to name a few.) were very helpful they couldn't do enough. Espacially for my father who is disabled and couldn't make it up to the restaurant some days, on those days they would let him have his food downstairs and they were always checking on him to see if he wanted anything and if everything was to his satisfaction. The bar staff were always smiling and would do anything for you, Ricardo always came up to us as soon as he saw us and shake all our hands and ask how we all were he was lovely, and Victor well he is just fabulous he is one of the best barmen there we were always chatting, having a laugh, he always makes sure you get what you want.

But beware all the blonde haired pretty girls he is a bit of a sucker when it comes to blonde hair, not to mention a bit of a gigolo!! But he is lovely and kind. The reception staff were also great, as soon as we got there they said to us "anything you need, just come to us and we will do whatever we can to do it for you" nothing was too much. I have definitely saved the best till last though, The entertainment staff!!!

Well what can i say, they are the best thing since sliced bread and we loved them, especially Shaggy and Amanda. Amanda loved my mum and dad and if my dad ever wanted to be taken anywhere she would push him wherever he wanted to go, they got on like a house on fire. Shaggy was the quietest one of all of them but when he got to know us he was great, he didn't push you into doing any games or activities but you ended up doing them because of the fact that he wasn't pushy. they were great and they made our holiday absolutely bloody brilliant, one we will never forget!! (we love you for free too!!) Danny boy (HE HE HE!) and scooby doo (ITS ME AGAIN!! DON'BE BLOODY KNACKERED!!) were great too. This holiday was that good that we are going back either later this year or at the beginning of next year. Providing that Shaggy and Amanda are still there. We can't wait!! Amy and Lee (Mr Cuciurubu) Pam (sexy mama) and Mick (Mr/Tio Miguel) Jay And Sophie. XXXXXX

P.S anyone who remembers us and wants to get in touch just drop us an e mail.

Dont be bloody knackered, its me again! (scooby)

"Well what can we say!" just back today from one of the best holidays ever!! we're already missing everyone, Danny boy(he,he,he,he) scooby,(dont be bloody knackered) and my fav baby faced shaggy(dont worry be happy) they are what made our holiday one to remember!!!

"we'll be back". ive never known people that work so hard to make your holiday one to remember, they are the best by far!!! From scott (Mr Gigalo) and Mel (Miss Blondie)

First Timer

Just returned yesterday from Dorado Club. Overall had a great time.

Like other people prior to going checked this site and read the reviews. After reading some of the reviews was quite wary of what to expect. On arrival at Puerto Plata you complete your visitors card which takes ten minutes, not too much to complain about. The transfer to the resort takes about twenty minutes - be warned take insect repellant in hand luggage because in that twenty minutes trust me you get bitten ! Once at the hotel we were shown our room which was fine, it was clean the air con was brilliant and the shower worked. Its just your luck, there are bigger rooms but in comparison to Greece, Spain etc the room was sufficient. The restaurant was good, my girlfriend is vegetarian and she had plenty of choice, which I was worried about. If i had to make one complaint, it was on the chinese night, the rice and the noodles both had ham through them. They have a themed night each night in the restaurant which gives you plenty of variety. The bar staff do a great job special mention to Osvaldo and Victor who both tended to work in the evening the were great. There was an older guy who worked during the day who was fine. nIf you go to the Dorado Club you are in for a treat withe Entertainment Team. For me they made my holiday, the team consisted of Danny Boy, Shaggy, Scooby Doo, Winston and Amanda. They have activities running from 10 - 12.30 then from 3pm - 5.30 witha variety of fun snd hilarity. They all have there own patter, from Danny saying "shaky shaky dont be lazy" to Scoobt Doo " too much drinky drinky " Winston with his " its meeeee again "and " oh be jesus " They have a rolling programme of evening entertainment, we nver seen the same show twice in the fortnight we were there. Special mention for the Michael Jackson night really good. Be warned there is audience participation - but ggod fun. The maids clean your room at least once a day and watch out for their creations they make with your towels from a swan to an elephant. Overall food good drink good entertainment team - Excellent. A word of warning for the owners of the hotel if you loose this Entertainment Team you will find them very hard to replace, they work well as a team

Nightmare time on arrival completing the tourist cards, why you cant complete on on the plane like you do for the states is beyond me! do it before you go from the embassy here. On arriving at the hotel reception was friendly enough, porter took us to our room - oh dear it stank, musty and damp decided we were not going to stay there!Went back to reception where we were given another room rather grudgingly on appearance and odour it was better. However, during the night found small ants in the bed, rather a restless night was had. On getting up in the morning we went to breakfast not much choice and their way of cleaning the table is to use a napkin and sweep all debris onto the floor as well as onto anyone sitting in it's vicinity- not hygienic! We went to the welcome meeting and the rep for Thomas Cook, Charlotte was realy good. We spoke to her and said that we weren't impressed by the hotel and what the problems had been there were still one or two problems with this new room, i.e. toilet wouldn't flush and there was no plug cover in the sink. She said she would speak to reception and get these things sorted and they were but we had decided we needed to move and after having lunch there and an evening dinner we were ready to move - the food lacks variety to say the least. We spoke to several other guests who had had similar problems with their rooms in fact one lady had to move three times because of various things wrong. surely they should sort these problems out before guests get there and if they have a problem with ground floor rooms then get it sorted don't keep making them available for poor unsuspecting guests. When we did leave and hand our keys back to reception the staff were surly and obviously not happy that we had chosen to move hotels but we wouldn't have if they had been up to scratch! To be honest I think I am going to write to the head office of the Hotetur group informing them of the problems they have there. Oh and a word of warning what the holiday brochures don't warn you of is that at weekends the hotels are swamped by the locals who are noisy, rude and arrogant! To be fair the only good thing about the hotel were the entertainment team.

My vacation in Dom-Rep.

hallo friends, since the year 1999 Ihas been enthused vacatons in the Dom-Rep. I spend the second time my vacation 2001 in the Dorado Club resort. That time with several friends. I newly was constructed became pleased us surprised like all also this vacation very well. a very good service very friendly and a maximum at recovery. So I introduce my Vacation. So we want to spend our vacation again in 2004 in the Dorado Club resort, therefore I am happy over regular information of you. With kind regards Guenter Kusch

It was ok....

Just got back from the Dorado Club this morning. Before leaving, the travel agent told us that it was a 4 star hotel----This is not true. It is a 3 star. We visited Breezes (which is a 4 star resort) and we amazed at how much better this one was than ours. The rooms are nice and big and have very powerful air conditining units. The rooms are cleaned once per day and the maids leave flowers for you on the sink, which is a nice touch! The food in the buffet restaurant consists of only about 10 items. It is usualy good (they had rock lobster on Wed and Roast Pig on Sat) but it is simple. If you're looking for a dining experience look elsewhere! You cannot get food 24 hours per day. The restaurant has certain hours. The bar at the beach serves chicken wings, hot dogs and burgers during the day but closes early. The main bar by the pool is ok. The beer that comes out of the tap tastes like cigarette ashes because they don't refigerate their kegs like the other resorts do.

This makes the beer skunky! They usually have one bald-headed bartender at night who is bad-mannered and incompetent. It took us an average of 10 minutes just to get his atttention and there is a long wait for drinks at night. If you're lucky, you'll get a Venezuelan bar tender (I think his name is Peter) he can tend bar!As 24 year-old single males, we found the nightly entertainment a bit boring. But if you're traveling with your family you'll like it. They have fire eaters and a really good Micheal Jackson impersonator. Danny Boy is the guy in charge of animation and does a very good job. But we found the nights were a little boring if you stay in the resort. There is nothing to do.

There are nice Merengue clubs in Sosua and Puerto Plata just a short cab ride away. Fishing and spearfishing are impossible as the waters off the northern beaches have been over-fished to a point where it has become an underwater desert. There are no fish, and all the coral is dead. The beach was nice, just a short walk away from the hotel and the water was very clear and refreshing. The hotel pool is shallow, warm and overcrowded....I suggest the beach! We rented dirt bikes and toured the Dominican for a couple of days. I only reccomend this if you can ride a motorcycle and are able to adapt to a busy traffic system. I also recomment the Jeep Safari me, do it!!My over all rating was a 6. I will had a pleasant time but I will not return to the Dorado Club. It's Breezes next time!

Scooby Scooby Doooooooo!

What a DELIGHT !!!! The Location, Food & Staff are 5*. On arrival at the Dorado Club, we were met by Angelo the porter ( one cool dude ) very smart ,polite & speaks excellent english. He loves the sayings like "cheap as chips " "cool as a cucumber" "hot as a bakers oven" etc. Martin in reception......very smart, always smiling, nothing to much trouble. The maids attend your room about 3 times a day & always put fresh flowers in your room. Daniel in the Restaurant with help from Candido, Ramon, Gabriel & all the others always treat you very special. Vito & Ricardo the most efficient & polite Barmen you will ever meet who can serve anything from a shandy to a Mai Tai or Cuba Libre. The entertainment staff ........well what can be said they are nuts !!!!!!!!! Anything they can do to make you laugh & ensure you enjoy your holiday they will do it. Danny Boy ( I go to Alaska...Thanku for comeing......He! He! He! he! ) he is the man who makes it all swing . His number 2 Scooby Doo (Gabriel ) he is always there & is excellent with his Spanish lessons Tip. Never let him score any games & finally young Shaggy a young gentlman & the slightly more sane one of the trio. The hotel is Great ........The complex with its Shopping Centre , 6 Casinos , 6 Clubs & of course Hemminways the finest bar in the Carribean. Try it & you will Clappy Clappy because it is certainly NOT crappy crappy.

I loved the Durado Club. I spent 10 days there, had my wedding and honeymoon all prepared when I got there by there staff. It was the best time of my life. And what beutiful places to go. I loved all the shopping and nature. The cab drivers are abit crazy but what do you expect in a country where a beer is like soda

Day 9

A travel blog entry by julieericson on Jul 23, 2015

... found out the day before that we would be having it for lunch. After pizza at the lazy dog, we got back on the bus and headed 15 minutes down the road to Sosua. In Sosua, I went souvenir shopping at the market and then jumped in the crystal clear water with all my friends. For some reason, the Sosua beach side looks a lot like Greece. That was an observation many people made, even Olivia, who was in Greece earlier this summer. The water ...

Day 8

... I got up a couple minutes later though to get some ice cream. The man selling it walks up and down this mountain in pants with ice cream on his head, so mad props to him and all the people who live in Brisón. I ended up getting two ice creams; one was chocolate and vanilla, the other was cake flavored? I calmed down a little, ate my lunch, and then just talked to Olivia for a little bit before it was time to go back down. Normally, GLA talks ...

... to do our first money exchange. I got some pesos and me and Olivia wandered around looking for cool things to buy. I got a límon frappe by dasani (which was basically just a cold lemonade) and a Dominican facial mask cream. My group got to go on the tour first at Caraballo where we toured a Haitian baté (idk spelling) and a mixed Dominican/Haitian neighborhood. We learned all about the current conflict and the fear of the undocumented Haitians that they could be ...

... in at the Brazilian place.

We also purchased a bottle of Absolut vodka. We didn't think it would come down to this, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Both of us got a little red, and I have some lovely stripes of white and pink on my arms. In spite of the bad liquor and mediocre food, I still think it's worth $12 a day. :)

Hasta manana!
