... charm of the narrowest alley ways, bridges, balconies of wrought iron, flower boxes, carved marble cornices and pillars...just the tip of an iceberg when you come to the cathedrals... San Marco Cathedral with the most spectacular use of gold mosaic in its murals and marble of every colour .... indescribable.. Prayers, bells..Cameras flashing, throngs of visitors...Still a must ...

... the refugio. My gluteals are still in a sorry state, so I'm slow. The trail also goes along cliff edges so I continue slowly. The decision of when to turn around is made for me when we arrive at a dirt covered snow avalanche from the previous winter(s). We're at quite a respectable height, theres no sign of the refugio, and we can see the trail signs on the other side of the avalanche, but clearly not ...
