Pretty drive down, last bit in the dark as decided to leave at last minute, abandoning plans to go inland in search of quetzales.
As dusk falling passed through more oil palm plantations - the older ones have beautiful 2 storey wooden homes for their employees centred around a green, which in practice ends up being a football field.
Was directed to the only cheap hotel in town "al fondo" but no sign - good job I asked as I discovered in the morning, if ...
Small village on the main road but Tucan Hotel set back. Not cheap and only 2 showers/toilets shared between up to 4 people in treehouse, 4 in hammocks, multiple others camping plus 12 people in dorms when fully occupied. Female shower/toilet always full of men as bigger - thankfully came when quiet.
Cocked up the directions to the falls, Cascadas Verde & didn't turn left before hardware store. Ended up crossing the river on a tree trunk bridge & ...
... figured it was a fuel issue. Now, a few days later, we relize the problem was not Wesley but bad fuel. White smoke, which we were blowing, is a sign of too much water in the fuel. Of course we had to get the bad Diesel right before going over the Moutain of Death! Luckily Wesley is running fine now.
That night we parked in the middle of a pineapple field own buy yours truly, Del Monte. I never thought we would be enjoying Del Monte for it's beautiful sunset's!
Milli says: We got to the bus terminal early and lucky we did as it seems we got the last two seats on the bus - literally the last two at the back of the back. I popped a travel sickness tablet and was happy as Larry...otherwise the back is definitely NOT the place for motion sickness inclined losers like me. Oigh. Waiting at the terminal we saw a group of American girls going the same way...it was a taste of what was to come. Yes ominous. Be intrigued. A pack of happy ...
Jaco, Province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica shanemilli... sheets. I tell her that would'nt be wise or prudent considering her husband is there.( Plus, she looks like a brown smurf ) So, I basically dance with Sumner and her friends most of the night as they are a lot of fun. Two of her friends pick up these two other guys and we all act like fools. We leave at some point to go to Sumners sisters apartment (Gwendolyn) which is like a 3 blocks away in the most ...
Jaco, Province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica therican... ourselves to leave tv land and go to the beach. The water is kind of gross looking and the beach was dirty because of all the rain, but we set up our hamock under some trees and we watched some guys surfing. There were huge waves and there was a great breeze. Then it started to rain again so here I am writing you. Well thats all. Love you.
Jacó, Costa Rica limehybrid... line, and waiting for the border folks to get back from lunch. Once through it was an easy ride down the coast to the little town of La Libertad, a surfing destination. We stayed at a great little place close to the beach. El Salvadore was definitley different from Guatemala, which is something we are finding to be the case as we travel through each of these countries, they all feel a little different. Maybe it´s just me. Still a beautiful place, but garbage on the beach is ...
Costa Rica, Costa Rica viajando... it raining hard. We are rolling down the highway at a pretty good clip, and every time the headlights from approaching cars hit our bus, I realize our bus has no working windshield wipers; or the driver just sees no reason to use them. I feel like we we're in an old Alfred Hitchcock movie; maybe William Bendex is at the wheel with a young Raymond Massey as his conductor. They don't know the bridge is out ahead, or that the brakes are gone. In reality it IS ...
